Drowning Pool Reunites With Singer Ryan McCombs
As first reported by Metal Edge, Soil vocalist Ryan McCombs has rejoined Drowning Pool, with whom he appeared on two studio albums, "Full Circle" and "Drowning Pool," as well as a live album, "Loudest Common Denominator," before leaving in 2011. Fortunately for Soil fans, McCombs will continue to front them too. The quartet will play their reunion show tonight at Club L.A. in Destin, Florida, before headlining the Throwdown At The Campground festival tomorrow.
Said McCombs, "When I stepped away from music back in 2004, I only got back into the mix because it was with [Drowning Pool members] C.J., Stephen and Mike, and because it was also a way for me to be a small part of keeping their music with Dave [late Drowning Pool vocalist Dave Williams] alive. Just being back in the same room together after so many years, gearing up for these shows, was a quick reminder as to why I considered them to be my best friends in the business back in the day. As everyone living life can attest to, sometimes our days can get messy - but in the words of one Dave Williams, ‘Everything happens for reasons, I just don’t know…’ Some of the greatest moments in my career came about as a member of DP and I’m really thankful for the opportunity to perform with them once again."
Added drummer Mike Luce, "I’m very happy that Soil and Drowning Pool are in a spot now where we not only co-exist, but are close enough as friends to move forward together. We support and respect each other enough for us to make sure they can keep doing what they do, and for them to allow us to revisit a bunch of these cool tunes we played a decade-plus ago, with the singer who we viewed as the archetype after Dave passed. We can’t wait to get onstage together again and see where this leads."
"It’s exciting as hell having Ryan McCombs rocking out with us again," said guitarist C.J. Pierce. "It’s been 13 years since the last time we were in a rehearsal room together, and from the second we hit that first note it was like we never skipped a beat. I’ve never felt such a connection as musicians, true friends and family as I do with Mike, Stevie and Ryan. I can’t wait to share the stage together again."
"Never say never," said bassist Stevie Benton. "It’s hard to believe it’s been over 10 years since we shared a stage with Ryan. I think, deep down, we always knew this reunion would happen."
Additionally, McCombs’ band mates in Soil stated: "Ryan has extensive history with both Soil and Drowning Pool, so when the opportunity arose for him to move forward as the singer of both bands, we knew we could make it work together. Both bands aren’t kids anymore, and we’ve all grown as people, mended past hard feelings, and are approaching the 25-year marks. Ryan wants to work. He wants to tour and play as much as possible, and this allows him to do that. As Dave Williams said just days before his passing, ‘Anywhere there is electricity for DP and Soil to play together, let’s do it…’"

An amazingly vivid and beautifully thought-provoking piece of art, which will make fans of bands like Leprous, Port Noir and Haken thrilled.
Ring of Gyges about the video:
"We spent a very cold couple of days out in the breathtaking landscapes and adorable little villages of South-Western Iceland with our fantastic director Gaui and a fantastic cast of actors, creating the video for our latest single Parasite. Fun fact: one of the scenes is filmed inside the home of the local sheriff in Guðjóns hometown. We hope you enjoy it at least half as much as we enjoyed making it, although Gísli has insisted on a warmer location for the next shoot."
"Metamorphosis" will be released via ViciSolum Productions on May 19, 2023. More...
Kamelot Unveils New Song "Eventide"
The wait is over! Today, modern heavy symphonic metal leaders Kamelot finally unveils their most introspective, uplifting, vital release to date - their first full-length in five years, "The Awakening." The Answer Posts "Oh Cherry" Video Online
Northern Irish rockers The Answer finally release their seventh and long-awaited new studio album on St. Patricks day, March 17th, 2023. Titled "Sundowners," the record was produced and mixed by rising British rock producer Dan Weller (Enter Shikari, Bury Tomorrow) and will be supported by a run of album showcase performances on a 16-date UK and European date tour. Supported by new single "Oh Cherry" and a fantastic Tarantino-esque 60’s ‘mash-dancing’ lyric video, also released on March 17th. You can check it out below.
Says lead singer Cormac Neeson, "We've been through a lot as a band, toured the world, made six great records we’re all proud of, and always done our best to make honest and timeless music that connects with rock and music fans in general. After six albums and a lot of road miles we felt we needed to step back from it all and reset. Whilst that wasn’t an easy decision, with retrospect it’s possibly the best decision we’ve ever made because after seven years away we all came back fired up and end result is an album we’ve been waiting to make our whole lives…full of good time rock n roll and positive energy created by four brothers who quite frankly just really missed each other. We’re back and we’re ready to bring our best album ever to you!" More...

Social injustice continues to reach new heights, and everyday life is becoming increasingly difficult for many to cope with." More...
Dødheimsgard Debuts New Music Video
Following the announcement of their forthcoming album Dødheimsgard return with their exceptional first single ‘Abyss Perihelion Transit’. The ten minutes plus track weaves a sombre tapestry incorporating elements of multiple sub genres in the world of Extreme Metal and thematically tackles ideas of epistemological dualism.
Regarding the single, Vicotnik had the following to say:
"The whole album revolves subjectively around perception, experience, psychology, objective/subjective reality vs external pressure, tropes, taboos, the laws of motion/causality which influences one’s life. The subjective perception of reality vs the objective causal effects of reality and how they are bound interact. Epistemological dualism."
Vicotnik continues:
"I guess mental health, or rather instead of health, let’s call it mental condition is a big topic on this record. Not as in a complaining way, or as a good or bad notion, but rather a subject’s study of his own psychology (en)during everything.
"Like the ambiguity of Being. What is Being? Is it a meta-physical stratum of subjective emotionally fuelled notions or is Being just explaining a physical object that is, therefore being. Epistemologically I guess these lyrics dwell a lot on naïve realism vs representational realism. Cognitivism vs behaviourism, and then bringing it all to an artist context obviously. So, it is experiential renditioning, not solution driven." More...
Phaeton Shares New Song "Refraction"
Taking off towards the stars from the small town of Kimberly, Canada, Phaeton is bringing a new kind of instrumental spacey prog metal to listeners across the galaxy. They have been working on their second full-length album “Between Two Worlds”, which will be released on April 21st. Ahead of the full album, they are releasing the kaleidoscopic single “Refraction”, which they detail in their own words:
“This tune opens with what may at first lick seem to be a happy day at the beach, but the volleyball game ends soon enough when Colin's drums pick it up and then the major-9th power chords and the modal guitar leads start crazying up the works. Thought you could follow it easily enough? WRONG! More standout grooves and snappy riffs. The reggae-ish breakdown in the middle comes across almost like (Herakles help us) the Police, but then the djenty guitars envelop the proceedings and we're back into Symphony X again. Confused yet? Don't be. Listen to it again. See? It's all awesome.”
"Refraction" is a powerful and dynamic track that showcases Phaeton's signature instrumental prog style. The track is anchored by smooth bass lines and intricate drum patterns, while the guitars stand in for vocals, telling a story and painting a vivid soundscape. They aim to deliver an attention-focused listening experience. One drenched in joy and wonder and the emotional, visceral release that only prog-metal can deliver. And the lack of lyrical interference only allows the listener the better opportunity to let their imaginations run wild with the music, drifting emotionally away on the solar winds to wherever they wish to soar. Walk With Titans Reveals Debut Album Details
Rockshots Records is proud to announce their signing of Walk With Titans for the release of their debut album "Olympian Dystopia" on May 26th, 2023. Based in Montreal, Canada, the band's goal is to bring all the epic elements you'd expect from a power metal band with a twist of Greek Mythology. On "Olympian Dystopia" the quintet showcases their writing and technical skills.
Efficient, epic, well executed, heavy, and mythical, this is what power metal fans will discover during 50 minutes of "Olympian Dystopia" brought forth by Nikko Cyr (drums), Nick Maugy (rhythm guitar), Louis Jacques (lead guitar) (ex-Blackguard), Lydz Grondin (bass), and Jonathan Vézina (vocals & orchestrations).
''We wanted to make a straightforward power metal album without compromising the epic side. I think listeners will realize that and enjoy it. We made this album during the pandemic and it kept us sane, we hope fans will find the same joy in listening to it as we had to make it! We bring some ancient Greek Myths to the forefront like Eurydice and Herakles, while others are more subtle like 'Edge of Time', which is Khronos representing time eating us all. Other tracks on the record we made as an analogy for societal issues.'' adds guitarist Louis Jacques.
Today, the band presents their first story and single accompanied by a music video. Entitled "Seven Against Thebes", the track tells the tale of the seven champions in Greek mythology who made war on Thebes, Adrastus, Amphiaraus, Capaneus, Hippomedon, Polynices, Tydeus, and Parthenopaeus. They were chosen by Adrastus, the king of Argos, to be the captains of an Argive army whose purpose was to restore Oedipus' son Polynices to the Theban throne.
''This song is very ''in your face''. We wanted to make a fast song with a very epic catchy chorus, I think we succeeded here. This song is about the myth of the two Oedipus' sons who fought to the death over the city of Thebes. The bridge solo section is very fast and intense, as a battle could be. We unleash everything on the stage when we play this one.'' says guitarist Louis Jacques More...
Thulcandra Posts "Hail To The Abyss" Video Online
May 19, 2023 will see blackened death metal force Thulcandra release their fifth studio album, entitled "Hail The Abyss," via Napalm Records. Following the recent release of their music video for first single "As I Walk Through The Gateway", today, the German four-piece has shared their diabolic album title track, "Hail The Abyss!" You can check it out below.
The band‘s forthcoming magnum opus proves yet again why they‘re atop death metal‘s malefic vedette. It showcases their affinity for dark, aggressive and mellifluous metal while the entire album rips and terrorizes with the intensity of hell. As always, Thulcandra's about a vibe - there's always a unique "feel" that's distinctly old-school, but without the tired trappings of it.
Preparing to return from their debut US tour alongside Fleshgod Apocalypse, Obscura & Wolfheart, guitarist/vocalist Steffen Kummerer comments about the new single:
"The title track of our upcoming album, 'Hail The Abyss,' turned into a sharp and pushing composition that blends a balanced mix of black and death metal. The record turned out as we hoped it would, and the video produced by Grupa13 (Behemoth, Kreator, Arch Enemy) might be the most iconic clip we came up with in our 20 year long lasting career." Neolia To Release Debut Album In May
Get ready to immerse yourself in a world of dynamic soundscapes and intricate musicianship as Israeli progressive metal band Neolia drops their anticipated debut self-titled album. Brace yourself for a genre-bending journey that will leave you begging for more. In advance of this release, they have a new music video out for the track "Carried Away," which gives an up-close look at the band playing live and continues the story of the fictional character Alex who the album is about. They share the story conveyed in the single:
"This is a bitter, sweet memory, a sharp twist to a childhood memory from age 7. Being barely woken up, after fainting out repeatedly and passing out from rat poison fumes that were sprayed throughout the house, Alex was experiencing hallucinations while being unconscious and imagining being at the same location where he found his mother dead while nature around him came to life in the form of a nightmare. But even within this horror show, while feeling scared, cold, and alone he managed to take control and put up a fight."
The music starts gently and gradually. A fragile moment yet intense drops with a drum groove on the ride symbols paired with a dark and busy bass line that is balanced by a tender choir section and guitars that contrast each other. Gradually the music intensifies and gets even darker reflecting an emotional spiral that reaches a certain climax after the second verse. After the last chorus, the song ends with vigorous unison of guitar and synth layers.
The self-titled album was mastered by Howie Weinberg (Metallica, Pantera, Nirvana) and is due out on May 5th, 2023. More...
