High Priest Reveals Debut Album Details
Chicago stoner doom aficionados High Priest have released the psychedelic video "Divinity" as the first single taken from their forthcoming debut album "Invocation." The full-length is scheduled for release on June 23, 2023. Please find all album details below.
High Priest comment on the album: "This record was a long long time coming," guitarist John Regan writes about "Invocation". "On top of the craziness in the world the last two years, we experienced a lot of changes as a band: PHDs, new businesses, new homes, new cities. Despite all that, we brought all our energy into an album that feels like the best and most complete work we've ever done. 'Invocation' feels like catharsis inside chaos."
John Regan discusses the lead single "Divinity": "We had eight songs written and decided to do one more push to see what we could come up with", the guitarist states. "I started playing some iPhone riff demos and when Dan heard 'Divinity', he said, 'that one is a banger'. We started working with it and the full song pretty much came together in one day. It's probably the most energetic song on the record, and we feel like it gives every piece a moment in the sun: huge drum fills, harmonized guitar solos, and a vocal hook. It's the kind of song that makes you want to get in your car and drive down an open road, only your car is a spaceship and the road is the galaxy." More...
Abbath Added To Bloodstock 2023 Lineup
Following Devildriver's decision to pull out of Bloodstock Open Air 2023 due to frontman Dez Fafara's health, and the announcement that Nonpoint will not be performing at festival, the organisers of the festival has announced that black metal legend Abbath and his eponymous band will be stepping in on the main stage, while Pest Control will replace Nonpoint. A message from the staff reads as follows:
"With 135 days to go to Bloodstock, are we allowed to start a countdown yet?! Spring is officially here and though the festival has some disappointing news to share first, there is also a plethora of excellent news and lots more still to reveal while we’re (im)patiently waiting for August to roll around. You can also tune in to the next Facebook Live on Thursday, 6th April at 7pm. We can’t promise festival management will be wearing Easter bunny ears, but we can promise some Easter goodies. Keep an eye out on Bloodstock’s socials next week too for a little Easter competition…!
Unfortunately, we have to share that both Nonpoint and DevilDriver have pulled out of the festival this summer. Putting on a festival involves a lot of moving parts, and Bloodstock is as disappointed and frustrated as its audience when things crop up which the festival has no control over - after all, Bloodstock wants to deliver the very best possible festival for you and works hard year round to curate an stellar line-up. Dez from DevilDriver has shared the following message (see below) and we wish Dez all the best with his continuing recovery. More...
Agora Shares New Song
Mexican metallers Agora have today released their riff-fuelled new single "In The Name Of Destruction" via Crusader Records/Golden Robot Records. It’s the second single off their upcoming album Empire and can be streamed on all major platforms now.
"In The Name Of Destruction" depicts a horrific, dystopian world in which zombies are spreading across the land, threatening to annihilate humanity. It's a powerful musical statement that takes a new but classic approach to dramatic heavy metal compositions. The keyboards are a significant highlight, expertly played by musical titan Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Billy Idol, Alice Cooper), whose characteristic sound can be heard throughout the song.
The track is sure to get fans' blood pumping with its heavy guitar riffs and powerful vocals, while the drumming keeps the pace hard and relentless. The track was made to perform live and will keep audiences begging for more! More...
Xasthur To Release New Double Album In June
Xasthur are now revealing the video clip of the title track and first single taken from the forthcoming double-album "Inevitably Dark," which is slated for release on June 23, 2023.
The American stylistically highly diverse act instigated by multi-instrumentalist Scott Conner has created a kaleidoscopic double-album that ranges from acid folk to black metal. Please see below for cover art, tracklist, and further details of Xasthur's new full-length.
There is hardly a more fitting title for the new Xasthur compositions than "Inevitably Dark". Darkness is the element that holds all the tracks together despite the fact that they are expressed in a multitude of genres, which even includes black metal. This time. Be warned: this album is neither meant as a return to black metal of mastermind Scott Conner, even though he does this time, nor a guarantee that it will happen again next time – although, he might. Maybe.
This monolith of musical darkness that is balefully towering in the shape of a monumental Xasthur double album has been made from sonic granite. Like the intrusive igneous type of rock, it is coarse-grained, composed from different minerals that have formed from magma erupting to the surface from infernal depths, and has a high content of metal oxides that do not always show at a superficial glance. Nervosa Releases "Endless Ambition" Music Video
Full-speed death-thrash metal engine Nervosa are setting the metal world ablaze with their brand new song, entitled "Endless Ambition," out today! The steamrolling track is accompanied by an inexorably energetic music video and marks a new chapter and milestone in the band’s history, as it shows Nervosa with a revitalized new line-up.
Along with this blistering new offering, the marvelous force has finally lifted the veil on who will take over vocal duties on future releases. From now on, guitarist and founding member Prika Amaral will be the voice of Nervosa. "Endless Ambition" acts as a first harbinger for everything that is about to come and shows the incredibly powerful attitude and talent of Amaral ruling in this new position. Nervosa brings another novelty with the addition of the immensely talented and well experienced Michaela Naydenova on drums, Hel Pyre on bass and Helena Kotina on guitars.
Prika Amaral says about becoming vocalist:
"It was a huge challenge for me. It wasn't something I planned or expected, but after a second change of vocalist, I didn’t want to go through these changes again, so I decided to face what a lot of people have said since the beginning of Nervosa - that I should be vocalist. But, as I always heard from some people that I didn't have a technique, that the way I sang hurt my throat, I got carried away by that. Now, after studying vocal techniques for the last few months, I discovered that yes, I’ve always had the technique and feel comfortable facing this new journey, which I am enjoying a lot". More...

Deathstars Unveils New Lyric Video
The tension rises! The world's biggest and undeniably best outfit sitting between the realms of industrial and rock/metal, Deathstars, have released an atmospheric, fierce new track in the lead up to their eagerly awaited new album "Everything Destroys You," which will be released on May 5th via Nuclear Blast.
Following two extremely successful singles - "This Is" and "Midnight Party" - the band presents us with an amazing lyric video for the dark anthem 'Angel Of Fortune And Crime'.
Frontman Whiplasher Bernadotte comments:
"For me this song has pretty clear and present Deathstars-DNA, but with some new bloodlines in it… I mean it’s a pretty straight forward groovy jet black tune, but with a certain vocal melody in the latter part to break the pattern completely. Almost like a piece of darkness with some hope to it, but without the hope of course, haha." More...
Agathodaimon Introduces New Guitarist
German symphonic black metal band Agathodaimon has announced that they have parted company with vocalist Chris "Ashtrael" Bonner, as well as guitarist Michael "Nakhateth" Wöss. A statement from the band reads as follows:
"So, time for news. Please welcome our new guitarist Moerk, who will replace Nakhateth from now on. And that's actually not the only line-up change, as our vocalist Ashtrael decided to leave the band spontaneously last year.
"Honestly, hit me hard as I didn't expect this to happen, as it escalated just few days before a gig, but life can be weird and sometimes you suddenly go separate ways. Back to Moerk, we had some rehearsals/auditions together in the last months, and he does a great job and integrates well into the band. We will introduce Moerk in the next days (you're surely curious to know more about him!), this for now. In case you wonder about Nakhateth's departure, one important aspect was that he moved back home after his studies and suddenly hundreds of kilometers represent a significant gap in the long run when working together. All the best to him.
"We will announce our new singer shortly; it took some time, especially for me, to be able to take this step and also to find the necessary openness (mentally) to accept a change of singer. But the joint rehearsals have shown that the new line-up works, and in the meantime I'm looking ahead again in a relaxed, positive way. First concerts with the new line-up are already planned, one of them we will announce today.
"Sorry that it was quiet around us for a while, but as mentioned, we had to take some time to get everything back on track, and this is one of the things you shouldn't rush as a band."
Black Orchid Empire Posts New Music Video Online
UK trio Black Orchid Empire have unveiled their new single / video "The Raven," taken from their new album "Tempus Veritas," set for release on 14th April via Season of Mist. You can check it out below.
On "The Raven," the band comment: "'The Raven' is a song inspired by our love of Viking folklore and mythology. After the Danish Vikings began raiding England in the 9th century, many sought long-term settlement - they were farmers who saw an abundance of rich, fertile land in the hands of the Saxons. 'The Raven' is written from the point of view of such a settler who, after many years in a foreign land, is struggling with the feeling of losing touch with the old gods of his former home. The insane video created by our friend and visual collaborator Alina Gordienco is a brilliant modern-day take on the idea of losing your identity and fighting your inner demons." More...
