Unearthing the Metal Underground: Vexing

Oddball metallic extremity is no stranger to the Mile High City. The multi-faceted, genre-defying juggernaut that is Cephalic Carnage has been blowing minds with it’s bizarre deathgrind for decades. And in recent times, relative new-comers Vexing has been bubbling beneath the surface. The Denver-based band has been making noise since 2017, but they’ve only released a demo and an EP thus far. Subway To Sally Unveils New Music Video

With their 14th studio album "Himmelfahrt," Subway To Sally presents a new beginning and departure. The German folk rock pioneers unveils their new album on March 24, 2023 via Napalm Records, celebrating hope and life together with their fans!

The fourth single from the new album, "Weit Ist Das Meer" (The Sea is wide) underlines the album's general mood and inspires hope, while spreading desire and depth. The lyrics focus on maritime topics, while musically, it is the most quiet and soulful of the previously released singles, highlighting Eric Fish's haunting voice.

Subway To Sally on the new album:
"The new album marks a turning point. 'Himmelfahrt' represents the ending and a new beginning at the same time. The work on the songs for 'Himmelfahrt' began long before Corona, shortly after the release of the last album HEY!. This album addressed a broken world, the destructive treatment of people with their own kind and the environment in which they live. As the pandemic hit the world, most of the album seemed prophetic and depressing. All the material created up to that point had to be put to the test and was disposed of as outmoded." More...

New Saint Agnes Album Due In July

Ferocious four-piece Saint Agnes return with new album "Bloodsuckers," set for release on 21st July via Spinefarm. The band has also revealed a music video for the title track, which can be seen below.

Hailing from the UK, Saint Agnes are all about honest lyrics, intense vocal performances, plus rage-fuelled music intended to give a voice to those closer to the fringe than the centre. With its violent riffs, venomous vocals and punk attitude, the title track single serves as a no holds barred introduction to the Bloodsuckers album.

Vocalist Kitty A. Austen comments on the single and video: "I wrote 'Bloodsuckers' when I couldn’t take it anymore, when I decided to stop allowing people to crush me, to diminish me. I took my rage and my pain and used it as fuel and I burned. We are not defined by what has been done to us. We decide who we are. We choose who we want to be. We are whole. We are worthy. The video is an introduction to Team Bloodsuckers. Join us."

Saint Agnes have announced a one-off 'Bloodsuckers' single launch headline show on the 20th April at The Black Heart, London. Tickets go on sale on 31st March here.

The band will then join Monster Magnet on their spring / summer European run, before returning to the UK to perform at 2000trees festival.

Saint Agnes are also excited to welcome new bassist Ryan Brown into the fold, replacing Ben Chernett. More...

Skindred Shares "Set Fazers" Music Video

Having blasted dancefloors to smithereens just before Christmas with their ferocious anthem ‘Gimme That Boom’, Skindred return with another instant classic in the form of "Set Fazers." The second single to be taken from their forthcoming album Smile it’s an addictive sci-fi slam-dunk designed to quake arenas and festivals around the planet this summer.

Lead singer Benji Webbe states, "Star date 22.3.23: With this song we’re boldly going where no ragga-metal has gone before. We come in peace, L.O.V.E and unity, to bring Skindred’s outergalactic sound-system to the infinite expanse of the cosmos."

And that galactic soundsystem comes under attack in the ridiculously entertaining video for ‘Set Fazers’, where the band are hunted down on the streets of London and ‘fazered’ by a giggling purple assassin. It also features social media star Shin who sparked a Skindred-shaped Tik Tok dance craze last month, so the band invited him on set to bring his moves to "Set Fazers."

Skindred drummer Arya Goggin explains: "The idea with the ‘Set Fazers’ video was to make a Sci Fi meets Dancehall epic! Through TikTok we met an amazing dancer called Shin (whose dance to our song ‘Nobody’ went viral earlier this year) and he’s added his unique style to the video too. We had so much fun filming it and can’t wait to share it with everyone." More...

The track shows another side of Rage Behind and offers undeniable elements that give a more metalcore vibe than the previous ones. The result is one of the loudest, most palpable tracks and more powerful than ever. The French groove / thrash metallers are always good for a banger, and "Hourglass And Revenge" is possibly their catchiest groovy one yet.

Rage Behind comments:

Babymetal Debuts "Mirror Mirror" Lyric Video

Babymetal has released a new lyric video for their focus track 'Mirror Mirror', taken from their first concept album "The Other One," due tomorrow (24th March) via Cooking Vinyl. You can check it out below.

Last year Babymetal was “sealed” from the world after a successful 10-year journey. In April 2022, "The Other One" restoration project began to recover the Babymetal we never knew existed within a virtual world called the Metalverse. A total of 10 songs have been discovered within "The Other One" restoration project, with each song representing a unique theme based on 10 separate parallel worlds that they have discovered.

One of the discovered 10 parallel worlds is MIRROR and their focus track "Mirror Mirror" centres around this theme. "Mirror, mirror on the wall...", this song embodies a parallel world where the world inside the mirror and the world of reality go back and forth. Is what you see in the mirror your true self or the self you wish to be? More...

Metal Church To Release New Album In May

West coast metal veterans Metal Church will release their 13th studio album, "Congregation Of Annihilation," on May 26th via Rat Pak Records (America) and Reaper Entertainment (Europe). The new album marks the first release since the tragic death of legendary front man Mike Howe who passed in July of 2021. It also marks the first album with new vocalist Marc Lopes (Ross the Boss / Let Us Prey) who came on board in the summer of 2022 and features the current lineup of founding guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof, guitarist Rick Van Zandt, bassist Steve Unger and drummer Stet Howland. The new songs are a return to the band’s musical roots harkening back to the vibes of the self-titled first album and "The Dark."

Of the album, Kurdt Vanderhoof comments: "This new album is starting a new chapter in the Metal Church legacy. I really love this album. This record contains some of the most aggressive songs we have recorded. I hope the fans will like it as much as we do." More...

Dark Angel And Others Added To Mystic Festival

Dark Angel were so very close to having their name added to the Big Four of Thrash Metal – they had it all: wrath, energy, talent, as well as technical skills. With their records “Darkness Descends” and “Leave Scars” they aspired to become the champions of extreme music back in the day, competing with Slayer and Possessed. It did not work out, but today, wherever they play, Dark Angel are paid proper tribute. We have no doubts that their first visit in Poland will be unforgettable.

In 2020, after 10 years of break, Mad Sin released a new album “Ubreakable” – and you cannot think of a more fitting title for this Berlin band’s music. You cannot break them. Also, you cannot mistake them for anybody else, with their distinct take on psychobilly, drawing on punk, country, and hard rock.

Two other additions to the festival line-up will delight fans of Norwegian black metal and dark, bittersweet ballads – the former will rejoice to see Misotheist, and the latter to see Moriah Woods.

We remind that the festival’s line-up already includes more than ninety bands, including: Ghost, Danzig, Gojira, Meshuggah, Behemoth, Electric Wizard, The Hellacopters, Testament, Watain, Moonspell, Perturbator, Exodus, Dismember, Voivod, Alcest, Sleep Token, Unleashed, Carpathian Forest, Grave, Soen, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons (with a Motörhead set), Godflesh, Primitive Man, Earthless, Lucifer and Greg Puciato.
