Category VI Posts New Lyric Video Online

Newfoundland, Canada's Category VI will be releasing their new album "Firecry" toward the end of March via Moribund Records, and in lead up to it earworming its way to fans along with celebrating International Women's Day that passed earlier this week, the quartet is sharing their next single "Valkyries".

"This song is about sexism and misogyny and my own personal experiences with this. Being told to shut up my whole life backfired. It's about sisterhood and banding together like a bunch of powerful Valkyries against the assholes in the world!" says vocalist Amanda Marie Jackman. More...

Avarice (Denmark) To Release Debut Album In June

Finally, after putting on iron and fire at the local clubs in Denmark, melodic death/thrash metal band Avarice is ready to release their highly anticipated self-titled debut album in 2023. The record includes ten hard-hitting tracks that are themed around the antiquity’s mythological tales of punishment and extreme greed - hence the band and album name "Avarice."

For the recording and production of the album, the band teamed up with the successful Danish producer Chris Kreutzfeldt (Cabal, Ghost Iris and Møl - just to name a few). The record pins down in a perfect manner the status of Avarice as a front-runner of the old-school death/thrash sound of the 2000s - however, with a new and powerful take on the genre. The album captures Avarice’s brutal, intense and raw live energy and takes inspiration from pioneers such as Slayer, Sepultura, HateSphere and Power Trip.

Avarice was formed by a bunch of teenagers in 2007, the same year in which the collective also won the Aarhus Metal Contest and played shows and festivals with bands such as Kreator, Soilwork, Volbeat, Mnemic, Dawn of Demise and Mercenary. After laying low for several years, Avarice was restarted in 2021, in which year the EP "Reborn in Blood" was released. The EP was amazingly well received by fans as well as reviewers, which led them on their way to UPRISING! Records.

Now, from past to present, the self-titled album "Avarice" holds true to what the band has been promising all along: an uncompromising display of ferocious and brutal sound. Undoubtedly, the band’s debut album will soon be considered as a modern Danish metal classic that belongs in any record collection.

"Avarice" will be released on LP (black vinyl, limited to 300) and digital formats via UPRISING! Records on June 9th, 2023. The single and official video "Between The Trenches" will be released this Friday. More...

Soilwork Recruits New Guitarist

Having just finished the first leg of their European tour with labelmates Kataklysm, Swedish melodic death metal veterans Soilwork are about to embark on the second half of the tour with exciting news. The band welcomes Simon Johansson to their ranks, completing the line-up again. Simon Johansson will step in as Soilwork's new guitar player.

Soilwork states: "We are excited to finally welcome Simon Johansson to the Soilwork family as a permanent member. Simon has been with us on a session basis since 2019 and not only has he proven himself to be a solid guitar player, but also a humble human being and a true gentleman in some of the most challenging years of the band’s history. We love you and we are grateful that you are part of our band."

Simon adds: "I'm super stoked and very humbled to be the new guitarist in Soilwork. I have been a fan of the band since way back and now to be a part of the Soilwork legacy is a huge honor.

"We first started to work together in 2019 when I joined as their session touring guitarist and during this time my admiration for the band has just grown. Now happy and proud to be joining my brothers as a full-time member and I’m thrilled to be a part of the next chapter of Soilwork."

Tygers Of Pan Tang Shares New Lyric Video

Time for a new single from “Bloodlines”, the upcoming album from NWOBHM legends Tygers Of Pan Tang. And guitarist Francesco Marras looked to the band’s history when he wrote "Fire On The Horizon."

"I was inspired by an old Tygers song - 'Running Out Of Time' from the album 'Crazy Nights'," Francesco enthuses. "I wanted to write something fast and powerful to live up to the band tradition of having powerful guitar riffs and short, impactful solos. It sits perfectly alongside the other nine fantastic tracks on the album."

Listening to the song, you can easily understand Marras’ excitement. It’s a sharp riff with lightning solos, making up a fast and energetic track. It won’t have much trouble becoming one of the favourite Tygers’ live tunes and competing with the classics.

"Bloodlines" will be released on LP (black and red vinyl, with the latter being limited to 500), CD and digital formats via Mighty Music on May 5th, 2023. More...

Gama Bomb Covers Pogues Classic

Irish thrash metal veterans Gama Bomb have released their glorious, raucous cover of The Pogues' classic "If I Should Fall From Grace With God," featuring The Pogues' own Spider Stacy on guest vocals. You can check out a video for the song below.

Gama Bomb's vocalist Philly Byrne comments: "The Pogues were my musical awakening. When I was a wee boy, I shared a bedroom with four of my brothers. I'd sit on the floor between the beds, staring at the sleeves for If I Should Fall From Grace With God and Rum, Sodomy And The Lash while my brother played them on vinyl.

"We don't really 'do' covers, but we always discussed 'If I Should Fall'... as one to keep in the back pocket. When we finally made a demo, I took a punt and sent it to Spider, literally just slid into his DMs on Instagram. I said 'Hey, we're this metal band from Ireland, we love The Pogues, we hate fascists, we did this - do you wanna get involved?' To his eternal credit, he listened to it right away and replied 'Absofuckinlutely!'. It's been a huge privilege to work and hang out with him. The lesson here is, don't be afraid to DM your heroes - just be nice."

Spider Stacy comments: "So there I was, just scrolling the insta, as you do, when I see this DM ‘what’s this’ I ask myself, ‘why, it’s Gama Bomb from Newry, a city famed in song and story as the birthplace of the great Pat Jennings, with a thrash metal version of ‘If I Should Fall From Grace With God’. Do they want me to appear on it. They do? Praise Jesus! Maybe I’ll finally make it on to the pages of Kerrang! And just look at me now - made it, Ma. Top of the world!’ And that’s a true story, I swear down." More...
