Interview

"Die The Deadest Ever" With Allegaeon

Will the third time be a charm for Allegaeon? That's what fans have been asking themselves lately as these Colorado slingers of dizzying, technical, and melodic death metal prepare to catapult forth their new LP "Elements Of The Infinite" (reviewed here).

It's been a painstaking and sometimes agonizing process of due-paying for Allegaeon since 2010, the year of the stunning debut "Fragments Of Form And Function." Then came the even more ambitious "Formshifter" in 2012, and along with it, signs of a growing cult fan base.

But despite all the grassroots love and word-of-mouth acclaim, major industry recognition - and the touring opportunities it affords - continued to elude Allegaeon, right up to and beyond the departure of founding guitarist Ryan Glisan last year. It became clear that the time of reckoning was not far off, and for remaining members Greg Burgess (guitar), Ezra Haynes (vocals/lyrics), and Corey Archuleta (bass), it was fight-or-flight time.

Thankfully, the band chose the former, hiring new permanent drummer Brandon Park and keeping touring guitarist Mike Stancel in the ranks. The results are "Elements Of The Infinite" and a new lease on life in the music industry. I recently spoke to Burgess and Stancel about all this and more. More...

Dreadlords To Release Debut Album

A cult deeply founded in the darker realms of humanity and the occult, Dreadlords will unveil an ominous debut LP later this year on Not Just Religious Music. The following press release was issued about the band:

"Containing members of Panther Modern and T.O.M.B., and hailing from different areas in the Pennsylvania and Maryland area, the members of Dreadlords boast a cruel, snarling brew of organic traditional blues and crushingly dark Americana. Banjos, chimes, percussive elements and amplified acoustic instrumentation, intermittently infused with the slight presence of psychedelic black metal and noise experimentation, with a permeating and harrowing low-end vocal crooning congregate in an organic, brutally raw, intoxicating demonic delivery.

"Following their cult demo release last year and waves of live performances throughout the eastern half of the US, including an East Coast tour with King Dude, the members of Dreadlords culminated on the final day of 2013, entering Satan's Palace in rainy Cherry Hill, New Jersey in order to concoct a new musical ritual to take your soul. The band will release the LP this Harvest Season via Not Religious Music, the label forged nearly one year ago by occult rock purveyor, King Dude and home to several releases by King Dude including a split with Chelsea Wolfe."

Further details on this maiden full-length will be proclaimed in the sweltering Summer ahead as it is finalized for public intake. You can also see the band live:

Kult Of Taurus Announces Split Release

Kult of Taurus is proud to announce the band has prepared a very special split assault with old comrades Erevos Aenaon, jointly titled "Born of Fire, Forged By Death."

Set for international release on July 14th via Forever Plagued Records, the split CD will have two halves, "Side Fire" and "Side Death."

"Side Fire" will contain four songs from older Kult Of Taurus material (demos, splits) that were chosen to represent the band's past but with all of them re-recorded in 2012, given the proper shape and sound they should have had back then. A rawer and more primitive side of Kult Of Taurus is now revealed, yet it contains some of the identical riffing that led to the celebrated "Divination Labyrinths."

"Side Death" will contain four songs that emanate Erevos Aenaon's own essence both in music but also in philosophy. Erevos Aenaon might not sound familiar to those outside Greece, but the band has been around since 2000, spreading handmade demo recordings as well as some notorious local live performances.

1. Erasithanatos
2. Fang Of The Wolf
3. Gnosis And The Frozen Stream
4. Funeral Boat
5. Blackened Skies
6. Ending The Chapter of Humanity

Songs we wrote 30 years ago are still loved by fans today. That teaches you to be careful with what you release and make sure you like it yourself. With Blind Rage, we have a collection of songs with the classic Accept feel, and -- as always -- there's an overriding theme of aggression and rage in our music. Otherwise, it wouldn't be metal." Swedish satanic black metal act Eosphorus has signed a worldwide deal to release the sophomore release "Winds Of Apep" through Wormholedeath/Aural Music. The release date has not yet been confirmed.
