Pit Stories: Losing Your Pants To The Pit

Each week we check in with metal musicians from across planet Earth to get their best pit stories.

This week we asked guitarist Greg Burgess of Allegaeon for his most memorable story from a live show, and this is what he had to say:

Oh man best our Allegaeon pit story... We were playing outside of San Francisco. During our last song "Accelerated Evolution" the crowd charged the stage and circle pitted around us while we were playing. After the show a dude comes up to us in his boxers saying, "I lost my pants in the pit." Awesome.

From teeth to prosthetic legs there's a lot a metal fan can find himself missing after moshing - what's the worst thing YOU'VE lost in the pit? Let us know in the comments section below!

Allegaeon's new album "Elements of the Infinite" (reviewed here) is out now and you can also read our interview with the band at this location. More...

Algebra Splits With Band Member

Guitarist / vocalist Ed from the Swiss thrash metal outfit Algebra has issued the following statement online about parting ways with the band:

"Dear friends,

"I met up two hours ago with the other guys and had a talk.

"Tony and I have had very tough times getting along practically since the beginning of the project, due to extremely opposite personalities. Despite a large amount of mutual respect which remains, it has become too difficult to keep us two going together in this work-relationship and so it was decided I should leave. I have also been contemplating this option since a year and a half in view of focusing on other projects, but always put it off when I got excited about a new Algebra album, a tour in Cuba and getting our new album signed by an awesome label.

"Tony decided to take this decision once and for all in order to relieve the situation and start afresh with someone new, motivated and more compatible, which is actually very good news for Algebra. It is a very nostalgic day for me, but rest assured that the guys are fully motivated to keep it going and this will give a whole new dynamic. They have a ton of material already in the works for the next album, which will be churned and churned until it is just right, I have zero doubts about it.

"To any thrashers who like this band and have time to invest, I would strongly recommend the experience. I wish my three buddies all the best and hope they thrash together ‘till the end." More...

Old Wounds Signs With Good Fight

Good Fight Music proudly announces the newest addition to its family: Old Wounds. Good Fight will release Old Wounds' new EP, "Death Projection," on September 16th.

Born in the New Jersey hardcore scene of the late '00s, Old Wounds picked up momentum with the 2013 release of its debut LP, "From Where We Came Is Where We'll Rest." Of that album, Pitchfork reported: "The trio emerges irate here, lashing ahead at a furious hardcore clip alongside screams about tears and disappointment... [Old Wounds] pairs the maudlin pages of high school diaries with a grown-ass band's precision and power."

In the months to come, Old Wounds proved itself a relentless DIY machine, setting out on back-to-back U.S. tours with peers like The Banner, Full of Hell, and Vices, and teaming up for various split releases.

With drummer Brandon Gallagher creating all the band's artwork (and also contributing design work to labels like Three One G and Bridge 9), Old Wounds' identity came into sharp focus: a self-sufficient, road-hungry crew of young bucks, cloaked in bold graphics, reviving the spirit of turn-of the-millennium metallic hardcore for the next generation.

Stand by for all the upcoming details about "Death Projection" and see a video welcoming the band to Good Fight below. More...

Putrid Offal Signs With Kaotoxin

Kaotoxin Records has checked in with the following announcement about signing a deal with Putrid Offal:

"Kaotoxin is extremely proud to announce the inking of a multi-album deal with recently re-activated legendary goregrind / grindcore band from France, Putrid Offal!

"Twenty five years ago or so, one of the very first French grindcore bands (along Blockheads, Inhumate, etc.) was born from the sick minds of Ludovic Loez (Supuration / SUP), Franck Peiffer and Frédéric Houriez. It was 1990 and Putrid Offal was one of, if not the, very first goregrind acts ever to emerge from France.

"A first demo, 'Unformed,' is quickly released (1990) and the band starts getting the attention of the worldwide Grindcore underground. This will result in their 'At the Sight of the Foul Offal…' split 7? EP with Grinding legends Agathocles (Skin Drill / Seraphic Decay, 1991). Lots of tracks appear on lots of compilations worldwide (like on 'Appointment with Fear' -Cyber Music- from the Netherlands or 'Bllleeeeaaauuurrrrgghhh!' from the cult Slap-A-Ham US label).

"Due to the growing recognition his main band is getting and the involvement it implies, Ludovic Loez leaves the band and is quickly replaced by Boris Reisdorff (Nocturnal Fears) before Putrid Offal enter the studio again to record what will become their cult 'Premature Necropsy' split LP with Switzerland’s Exculceration (Wimp / Adipocere). Up to this day, this record is still selling on eBay at prices always exceeding one hundred euros at a very minimum on LP! More...
