Portland, Oregon's extreme metal destroyers Vulture Locust have returned with "We Need To Talk" - an 11 track promo available for free download.
Following 2013's “Cold Civil War” EP, Vulture Locust regrouped as a three-piece with Ryan Bartek on vocals/guitar, Max Snyder on the bass, and the war drum Nathan Pogue.
“We Need To Talk” is the last promotional step before Vulture Locust records a fully mastered, full-on studio record. This self-funded D.I.Y. band didn't feel the need to let the clock tick away in the meantime, and “We Need To Talk” exacts revenge on the stagnant, sleepy, image-obsessed scenester hypnotism now clogging the arteries of the global underground. Vulture Locust occupies the stage and victimizes the audience, fueling infinite petrol to the worldwide riot.

This is the fourth video Custer has directed for the band, most notably "Electric Rattlesnake" from previous LP "The Electric Age." Blitz continues, "Each time the prior results have been spot on, so our confidence is high for this shoot. From the directors eye to yours/ours, should be a killer!"

Iced Earth's Jon Schaffer has issued the following announcement about cancelling all upcoming live activity due to having surgery:
"It is with sincere apologies that I write to inform you all that Iced Earth is forced to cancel this summer’s festivals and headline shows.
"As many of you know, I underwent surgery on my neck in the year 2000, due to an onstage injury that occurred in 1996. Since that time, I have battled with this problem, and it has begun to accelerate in the past several months, causing additional issues that can no longer be ignored.
"In February, while on tour in Europe, I underwent highly specialized treatment in Germany from a doctor who has helped, among many others, Tony Iommi and Eddie Van Halen. This treatment helped sustain my ability to perform so that we could complete our Worldwide Plagues Tour. However, I am now forced to take further, more invasive action sooner than I intended in order to maintain my overall health.
"Surgery was originally planned to take place in September during our break, but I have now been advised to have the procedure completed sooner rather than later.
"As much as it pains me and everyone else in our camp to have to cancel these dates, this is something that cannot be put aside any longer.
"Once the surgery and recovery are completed, we will be back to work – healthy, strong, and ready to bring the metal to you, our fans.
"Best wishes to you all." More...

The last three years I've reported on Austin's extreme music festival known as Chaos in Tejas. Some of the bands I witnessed include Autopsy and Winter. Last year, I attended four consecutive days. Although it took place for five days, May 28-June 1, this year, I didn't recognize a many name as the past three years. This may be because festival promoter, Timmy Hefner decided to tone it down a bit after last year's mega blow out of bands that included Benediction and Bolt Thrower. More...
Dark Fortress has checked in with the following announcement about releasing an upcoming album:
"We will release our 7th studio album worldwide on September 1st, 2014 through Century Media Records. The record will bear the title 'Venereal Dawn' and will be a concept album in nine chapters.
"Three years in the making, 'Venereal Dawn' will take our traditionally rich musical spectrum further than ever. Always aiming for an innovative equilibrium between hellish black metal, sophisticated melancholy, atmospheres of metaphysical horror and a deep occult spirituality, the album will be a substantial offering to our already extensive back catalogue.
"We have never taken the challenge of making a new album lightly, and again took a radically uncompromising attitude in concept and composing. Many songs were written since 2010's YLEM, and many were discarded again to make sure the new material would be able to exceed previous releases in quality, relevance and authenticity. More...
Morgoth has checked in with the following announcement about recording a new album and gearing up for tour dates:
"We are happy to announce that we will be touring Europe with the mighty Bolt Thrower in September / October. This marks the first proper tour for Morgoth since 1997 and will be a killer package for all of you Death Metal maniacs!
"And yes, the rumours are true….Morgoth is currently in the studio working on new material. We decided to team up with Jörn Michutta at Sound Division Tonstudio in Sundern, Germany for these sessions and the results are sounding seriously heavy.
"The atmosphere and the creativity within the band have been inspiringly good in these past reunion years since 2011, so naturally new ideas started to come up. As consequence, we decided to take some months off from playing shows and properly focus on songwriting.
"We expect to already have a brand-new single out before the tour, so stay tuned for more news and details soon…and see you on tour!" More...

Swiss power metal act has named Aska vocalist George Call (ex-Omen) as its new vocalist, replacing Thomas Winkler, who left in 2013 to front Gloryhammer full time.
The announcement reads: "Amongst many great candidates, we finally found the perfect singer for our sound! Many of you may already know him! It's the great…….. (drum roll)…………. GEORGE CALL (Aska, ex-Omen)!!!
"We are beyond happy that one of the greatest metal singers of our times is now a part of our band! It's gonna be a whole new experience working with a singer that lives overseas, but everyone who has already heard his amazing voice knows it will be totally worth it! Just listen to his vocals on our song 'Eye of the Serpent'" [heard in the player below]
George Call commented: "It came to be that Emerald were in the unenviable position of having to look for a singer. They thought I was far too busy but I'm glad we talked because our collaboration on the song 'Eye of the Serpent' was, bar none, among the best songs in all of Metaldom in 2013. How could we not possibly further explore that potential? I met the guys, their wives and girlfriends when we performed together in their native Switzerland on tour some years earlier and we hit it off magnificently. We nurtured a friendship and mutual camaraderie which now takes one further evolutionary step, sprouting wings as we combine our respective talents and seek to take Emerald to new heights of Metal glory. Hail!"
