Necronomicon Summons The "Rise Of The Elder Ones"

After a stint with Napalm Records for 2010 album "The Return of the Witch," Canadian death metal horde Necronomicon is back in the extreme metal scene with a new label home and a new dose of blasting heaviness.

The band just released fourth full-length album "Rise of the Elder Ones" earlier this month via Season of Mist, but was unfortunately hamstrung in promoting the release due to a series of show cancellations.

Despite the setbacks, Necronomicon is still working its dark magic on the metal masses, garnering strong reviews for the new release. Find out more about "Rise of the Elder Ones" together in our recent interview with vocalist/guitarist Rob "The Witch" Tremblay below. In the interview, Rob explains the role that Jean-Francois Dagenais of Kataklysm played in the creation of the album and its release through a new label, the Montreal metal scene, and more. More...

The Zenith Passage Signs With Unique Leader

Unique Leader Records has inked a multi-album deal with The Zenith Passage. The record label comments:

“It was in early 2012 that a small recording collaboration between two friends (Justin McKinney and Greg Hampton) began to coalesce into something that would prove to be well more than the sum of its parts. The Zenith Passage may have come about from humble beginnings in a stuffy Los Angeles apartment, but the produce thereof is anything BUT humble. Even the earliest demo tracks delivered a relentless torrent of technical guitar work accompanied by a distinctly frenetic and brutal vocal delivery that has since become an unmistakable hallmark in a scene that is all too often the victim of stagnation.

"Far from being strictly a shredfest, TZP also incorporates a thematic backbone that draws inspiration from the chaotic and awesome destructive powers of our universe. Progressive interludes invoke a palpable sense of abstract dread and reverence for things beyond mortal comprehension. The atmosphere created clearly nods to inspiration drawn from legendary acts such as Deeds of Flesh, Soreption, Fallujah, Severed Savior, and Aeon. More...

A.M.S.G. Finishes Work On New Album

Canadian black metal terrorist unit A.M.S.G. has completed work on debut full-length “Anti-Cosmic Tyranny.” According to the band, the album's mission is to “hail and push forth the awakened era of Esoteric Luciferion Draconis Supremacy.” Profound Lore Records also comments:

"Helmed by black metal crime lord Angelfukk Witchhammer (also of the legendary and now-defunct Ouroboros cult and who is also involved in the mighty Gloria Diaboli), A.M.S.G. play brand of primitive old-school black metal that summons the ancient spirit from an age and era where black metal was deemed for ritual use and unabashed devil worship.

"Reminiscent of the vibe of such cult black metal luminaries as Mortuary Drape, early Samael, early Rotting Christ, Necormantia, and Varathron, with their debut full-length A.M.S.G. have created an audial Satanic ritual steeped in raw and harsh unique polarizing black metal unlike anything being released in the genre today.

"It is an album that conjures twisted, uneasy, and deranged mid-paced progressive wierded-out song structures while incorporating dark melancholic drear and into its sound canvas of total death worship. And through its myriad of layered and subliminal sounds, noise, whispers and chants which culminate to form this black metal ritual of sonic invocation to honor the endless dark Aeon and the chaotic black light." Unearthing The Prog Rock Underground

As a child growing up in the late sixties/early seventies listening to Emerson Lake & Palmer, Yes and Jean Luc Ponty, progressive rock was and is a large part of my musical foundation. These musicians represented a skilled genre, one where a band had to know how to play far beyond 'adequate' and know all types of music. More...
