Municipal Waste Fucks Up Austin For $3

Twenty years ago, I remarked that if you went to a concert and didn't have bruises the next day, you didn't have a good time. I don't experience shows the same way now, but my former words live on in the crowd at the Mohawk in Austin, Texas. From massive circle pits to stage and even PA diving, many on the floor surely awoke on Saturday with lumpy, bluish marks on their bodies. Whether it's grindcore, power violence, crossover, hardcore or just plain ole' punk rock, Austin has an affinity for punk-related bands. So when Transmission Events and Red Bull brought in Municipal Waste and Power Trip for a mesely $3 (with RSVP, without the show was $10), you could expect nothing less than a packed house of rowdy punks a metal heads. Rob Dukes Comments On Leaving Exodus

Exodus recently announced the departure of vocalist Rob Dukes and the return of former member Steve "Zetro" Souza. Dukes has now issued the following statement about parting ways with the band:

"I'm no longer the singer of Exodus. I'm grateful for the last 9 years. I've had the experience of touring the world playing music.

"I was just a regular guy, a fan, and I got the chance to front a legendary band while having no prior experience of being a singer. I had no idea what I was doing and made it up as I was going along.

"It was a great chapter of my life, I'm bummed it ended with them, but I have another band Generation Kill. So I will concentrate on that right now and continue to build hot rods and build a car to race in the Baja 1000. I will be riding my motorcycle all over this beautiful country every chance I get, that's the next chapter of my life." More...

Empire Auriga Reveals Album Details

Moribund Records has set August 19th as the release date for Empire Auriga's comeback album, "Ascending the Solar Throne." The label comments:

"Empire Auriga's debut album, Auriga Dying, was critically acclaimed for its ahead-of-the-time fusion of black metal, dark ambient, and industrial, all coalescing into a cosmic black hole that was both devouring and debilitating.

"Eight years later, Empire Auriga return with the highly anticipated Ascending the Solar Throne. Aptly titled once again, Empire Auriga bring us the true sound of interstellar death with Ascending the Solar Throne.

"Here, the mysterious trio exists as the delirious melancholia awakened by union with the void, wisps encircling the kernal of futility at the center of each body, shining with listless abandon, seething as evaporation through obsolete ruins, smoldering with the intuition of having seen through the membrane. This is the sound of Ascending the Solar Throne!" More...

Damnation Angels Splits With Bassist

Damnation Angels - which was nominated as one of our best metal newcomers of 2013 - has checked in with the following announcement about parting ways with the band's bass player:

"I'm afraid we've had to part ways with Bassist Stephen Averill and we feel we should be honest about why so there's no confusion.

"It isn't to do with personal differences or a difference of opinion, Stephen just didn't come through when we needed him to, let us down and left us in a position where we had no choice but to fire him and look for someone else. Because of this we were forced to postpone the bass recording and in the end I had to do it.

"We're really disappointed with how this ended after all we'd done together and the great times. Of course we wish him luck with future endeavors.

"So our search for a new bassist begins, we want someone who is serious and completely dedicated to music with tons of experience, road tested and has great gear. We want someone in it for the long run, someone who's purpose in life is to be a successful
musician.

"Get emailing people if you think you're the Bringer Of Bass: damnation__angels@hotmail.com." More...

Interview

Interview With Mark Kloeppel Of Misery Index

A personal confession: When "The Killing Gods," the fifth studio album from Baltimore, Maryland's Misery Index, was presented to me, I hadn't listened to more than a handful of the band's songs since 2003.

Stuck in my memory vault from that time were the brash, abrasive, punk-influenced deathgrind strains of yore - a style that, in my experience, has produced some notable hits and many more forgettable misses. But my reservations proved unfounded.

Over the past eleven years, Misery Index has evolved into a lean, fearsome, consummate death metal machine. Far from a simple, numbing blast beat extravaganza, "The Killing Gods" is a pure riff factory laden with groove, thrash, and teasingly melodic elements that represent the ultimate melting pot of influences and personalities.

At the forefront of this evolution is, and has been, guitarist Mark Kloeppel, who joined Misery Index in 2005 from a decidedly different geographic and musical background. His creative path, in convergence with his bandmates', led directly to what now may be a strong contender for 2014's "best-of" lists.

Mark recently made himself available for some questions over the phone. Here's what happened. More...
