Graves At Sea / Sourvein Split Streaming

Just days preceding its public availability through Seventh Rule Recordings, Metal Hammer is now exclusively streaming the caustic split EP from Graves At Sea and Sourvein.

Side A of this crusher is ruled by two scathing numbers from Portland, Oregon's Graves At Sea, whose contributions leave an eerie aura complete with tortured vocals, foreboding composition, and a general sense of dread. Recorded by Billy Anderson, (Melvins, Sleep, Neurosis) "Betting On Black" and "Confession" thunder with the all-consuming sludge for which the band is notorious, flooding in amongst the tortured howls and shrieks of vocalist Nathan Misterek.

The resin-coated Cape Fear carnage of Sourvein overthrows the B-Side with three songs produced and recorded by Mike Dean of Corrosion Of Conformity. These odes of heavy -- "Driffter," "Equinox" and "Follow The Light" -- combine toxic riffs, grooves and just the right amount of psychedelic appeal.

Both sides were mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege Engineering and will be released via Seventh Rule on 160-gram vinyl as well as CD this Tuesday, May 13th.

Quartered Releases New Single/Video

Canadian alternative metal band Quartered has surprised fans with the release of a stand-alone single and music video for their new song “Casa.”

The single is available for free download at the band's website before it is officially released as a digital exclusive worldwide on May 20th.

“Casa” is Quartered’s first independent effort since splitting with Thorny Bleeder Records / Universal Music following the 2010 release "Walks Like A Ghost," and is a lead up to the band's sophomore release, the "Eyes and Ears" EP, which is due out summer of 2014.

“We decided to release 'Casa' for free simply because our fans deserve it.” says Greggor Williams, vocalist of Quartered. “The support and love that they’ve given us is something we could never come close to repaying, we’re happy to share 'Casa' with them. It’s important to us that our Filipino fans can get it as well, we know some of them are still recovering from the Typhoons last year, they’ve definitely got better things to do than figure out how to get us a dollar.” More...

Messenger Posts "Dear Departure" Video

Today, Messenger (UK) premieres a psychedelic new video for "Dear Departure," which can be seen below, courtesy of The Independent.

The track hails from the band's debut album, "Illusory Blues," recently released by Svart Records. The video for "Dear Departure" precedes Messenger's upcoming UK/European tour with Katatonia. The band comments on the video:

"Musically, the song tries to convey a natural event of great magnitude, like an earthquake or a storm - a display of the sheer force of nature at its most merciless. It's also a reminder to the self to strive for inner calm after a storm, figuratively speaking. The video uses masking and compositing techniques to show the secret worlds that exist inside our thoughts and dreams - a utopia, of sorts, and a glimpse into the realms that exist before birth, during life, and after death.”

Animus Divine Premieres New Song

Tucson, Arizona based outfit Animus Divine is gearing up to drop new album "NOVO" digitally tomorrow, which was produced by From First To Last and D.R.U.G.S. guitarist Matt Good.

With the release nearly upon us, today we've teamed up with the band to stream an advance track from the album. Check out "Leonard Lawrence" below (and be sure to let us know what you think in the comments!), or you can also hear the previously posted "No Respect" over at this location.

The band's unique style of hybrid metal melds together the southern grooves of Pantera with a death metal mindset, and the spastic insanity of 36 Crazyfists to create a volatile sonic battering ram of music that will appeal to fans of Rage Against the Machine and more.

Animus Divine has quickly developed an underground following with an explosive live show that has helped the group nab opening slots for the likes of Static-X, Devil Driver, In This Moment, Gwar, Winds of Plague, Mushroomhead, Fear Factory, and Born of Osiris. The band recently destroyed the competition winning the Headbang for the Highway The Summer Slaughter Tour showcase in Arizona in front of a packed house.

Psychotic Gardening Streaming Full New Album

Winnipeg, MB death metal band Psychotic Gardening is creeping closer to the release date of new album "Hymnosis" (read our review here) on Tuesday, May 13th.

Teaming up with Bloody-Disgusting.com, the band is now stream the full album online. Check it out below. Guitarist Andrew Wiens comments on the album:

“What we do is instinctual. We write for ourselves, to appease our own desire for music and art, it’s what motivates us. We rely on our own instincts and trust that what works for us will work for our fans. We believe in dynamics, that the juxtaposition of our faster songs with our slower songs lends power to our music. I’d like to think that Hymnosis takes you on a musical journey, through peaks and valleys - metaphorical musical textures - so that at the end of the day, you’re affected by this as a collective work.”

The band returns in 2014 with new material and the return of Chuck Labossiere after he filled in with Broken Hope for tour dates in Europe and Canada. The album is the follow-up to 2011's "Humanitorium" and 2007's debut "Hürdür."

Psychotic Gardening will also be holding an album launch in Winnipeg, MB on May 9th at The Zoo with local support from Endless Chaos and Entity. Catch the band live on these dates:

Auroch Reveals New Album Details

Canadian chaotic metal entity Auroch has completed work on upcoming sophomore album “Taman Shud.” Profound Lore Records comments:

"Alongside the band's co-conspirators in Mitochondrion (in which vocalist/guitarist Shawn Haché serves as Auroch's bassist while in turn Auroch vocalist/guitarist Sebastian Montesi helms the pulse of death for Mitochondrion respectively), Auroch creates devastating technical yet furious dark sophisticated death metal that summons the classic Canadian death metal spirit (not exceeding the year 1996 of course).

"In what made Canadian death metal such a unique force in said heyday, and what has been carried on through bands such as Mitochondrion, Antediluvian, and Weapon respectively, Auroch will make their mark on the death metal scene even more severe with 'Taman Shud.'

"Following their 'From Forgotten Worlds' debut, which would display Auroch’s skillful take on death metal, 'Taman Shud' takes it up to the next unrelenting level by presenting itself as a more brutal, devastating, more technically insane, and much darker album. With the band’s lyrics and themes that help bring 'Taman Shud' to a higher level of intellect, paired up with the inhuman-like musical execution, 'Taman Shud' is a death metal pillar like none other to be unleashed this year."
