The newest recordings from South Australia's funeral doom metal quintet Mournful Congregation are nearing release this Summer under the title "Concrescence Of The Sophia," which bridges the 2011 LP "The Book Of Kings" and an impending full-length opus. To be released via 20 Buck Spin on June 24th, the label comments:
"Concrescence Of The Sophia' begins with its title track, which boasts more than twenty minutes of expertly delivered but utterly disconsolate, plodding metal, where 'the weight of all waters, and the mass of all stars' exacts a heavy toll in the timeless pursuit of mystical knowledge.
"The monumental main riff onerously giving foundation to Damon Good's ardently howling leads and sepulchral lament. Acoustic interludes offering only temporary respite to doom's forgone conclusion. On the B-side, 'Silence Of The Passed,' at a mere nine minutes in length nonetheless foretells how vast is the agency of doom."
"Concrescence Of The Sophia" is confirmed for CD, 12" vinyl and digital release in North America on June 24th 2014. Osmose is handling the release onto the rest of the intercontinental territories the same week.
Mournful Congregation will return stateside just after the release of "Concrescence Of The Sophia," to make East Coast debut live appearances. Details are as follows:

Psychedelic prog/folk outfit Tusmorke today streams the entirety of the "Riset Bak Speilet" album, set for international release on May 16th via Svart Records. Listen in below, courtesy of TheQuietus.com. Svart also comments on the band:
"With roots stretching deep into the Scandinavian neo-progressive rock underground of the early '90s, the identical Momrak twins recorded a Tusmorke demo in 1997 but soon put the band on hiatus for several years.
"Tusmorke returned in 2009 with a full electric lineup, and the debut album, Underjordisk Tusmorke, appeared three years later. May 2014 sees the dark minstrels return with a sophomore album, Riset Bak Speilet ('The Birch Behind The Looking Glass'). A 50-minute transmission from the heart of the darkest northern forests, the album skillfully channels the spirit of classic British acid folk rock and soaks it in a black witches cauldron.
"The spellbinding concoction is at times reminiscent of classic acts like Jethro Tull and Incredible String band, and also not entirely far off from modern forest magicians such as Hexvessel and Wolf People." More...

"The first gig with Stefan was in December 2005 when they were the supporting act for the Swedish metal band Nocturnal Rites, and to tell you the truth it was a blast with Stefan on stage.
"And then they released the promo CD 'The Plague' with Mike Wead (King Diamond, Memento Mori, Candlemass) and Simon Johansson (Memory Garden, Fifth Reason, Abstarkt Algebra and more) as the producers.

In response to the news of the passing of H.R. Giger, former Celtic Frost frontman/guitarist Tom Gabriel Warrior (Triptykon) posted a statement on the iconic artist. Giger's artwork adorned the covers of Celtic Frost's "To Mega Therion" and both full length Triptykon albums "Eparistera Daimones" and "Melana Chasmata."
The statement reads:
"For the first time in 74 years, last night was a night not illuminated by the indescribable light that was H.R. Giger.
"H.R. Giger became our mentor, against all odds, when we, somewhat audaciously, first established contact with him some 30 years ago. At a time when almost everybody ridiculed, ignored, or even obstructed the music the then almost completely unknown Swiss underground band Hellhammer was creating, Giger listened to us, talked to us, and gave us a chance. Not least at a time when he was at one of many peaks of his path.
"A little more than a year later, his exceptionally stunning art made what might be one of Celtic Frost's most important albums, 'To Mega Therion', even more significant. Other links to Giger's universe also manifested themselves, almost as if it was predestined.
"Eventually, after many more years, the mentorship became a friendship. It was a friendship and a personal connection I valued infinitely, and it also included his wonderful wife, Carmen, and many other remarkable people that were part of his circle. More...

Multiple worldwide news outlets are reporting that Swiss artist H.R. Giger, who designed the creature in Ridley Scott's sci-fi horror classic "Alien," and best known in the metal circles as the man who created such iconic artwork that adorned the covers of such classic albums as Celtic Frost's "To Mega Therion" and most recently Triptykon's "Melana Chasmata," has died at age 74 from injuries suffered in a fall on Monday, his museum reported Tuesday.
Giger's works often showed macabre scenes of humans and machines fused into hellish hybrids, and the style influenced a generation of movie directors and inspired an enduring fashion for "biomechanical" tattoos.
Giger worked as a set designer for Hollywood, contributing to such hit movies as "Species," 'Poltergeist II," 'Dune," and most famously "Alien," the design of which won the 1979 Academy Award for special effects. More...
