Underwell Releases "Easy Escape" Video
Underwell has now released an official video for the song “Easy Escape” via Blank TV, which can be seen below and comes off sophomore album “The Chant Of Husks.”
The band also stated: “The new album is the logical evolution of Plan Your Rebirth. As we grew up, our sound and the subjects we treat with our music, followed the same process. The concept of the rebirth was recovered and analyzed through a more personal point of view. The sound is a mix of flashbacks from the 70s, really sick dissonances and greater care in the arrangements.” More...
Opeth Discusses Recording New Album
Opeth will release eleventh studio album "Pale Communion" on June 17th, 2014. The album was produced by band leader Mikael Åkerfeldt and mixed by longtime collaborator and Porcupine Tree frontman/guitarist Steven Wilson.
Opeth frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt was recently interviewed by Ultimate-Guitar.com. The band recorded at Rockfield Studios in the UK, and finished the album in two weeks.
Says Mikael in the interview: "We recorded onto Pro Tools but through the console. They still have tape machines there that are rarely used. I think we could have used tapes. I have recorded many records on tape and even if I love the sounds, it's so time consuming. We didn't have time really but we actually recorded much faster than we ever have. It was only 13 days to record this album...That's very fast for us. When we have recorded onto tape even if we've been well-rehearsed, we spend a month or six weeks. Which I didn't want to do this time. I wanted for it to be fast, spontaneous and fun...I think this new album is still clinging to the '70s sound, which is a warm, natural sound but the technology was updated and more advanced. So it sounds like '70s but better in a way. If you know what I mean? I guess that's what we wanted. I don't like modern-sounding heavy records. I think many of them sound just not human. You also get tired and your ears get tired listening to new metal records. While some of those records I mentioned still sound fresh and never sounded old." More...

Aittala To Release "Effigy" Album
Aittala is set to release third full-length album "Effigy" on June 17th, which follows 2011’s "Haunt Your Flesh."
"Effigy" consists of 10 songs; seven brand new hard and heavy Aittala tracks along with a re-imagining of three songs from the 1993 demo "Selling Heaven."
“Originally, ‘Effigy’ was meant to be a 4-5 song EP,” vocalist/guitarist Eric, explains. “But we had seven completed songs that we felt were all strong. We just decided to record all seven of them, then figure out how to release them later.”
Since seven songs seemed an awkward number to release at one time, Eric came up with a creative solution. “Since I had the original ‘Selling Heaven’ tracks digitized (from the 16-track reel), I thought it would be pretty cool re-record everything using only the original drum and bass tracks and release them as fresh versions. This is giving me the opportunity to release versions of those songs how they were originally intended to sound if I had the time, money and technology when they were originally recorded.”
With regards to the new songs that make up the bulk of the new album, Eric states “I’m very excited for people to hear the new material. I feel they’re the best Aittala songs released. The song writing is moving the sound in heavier direction with more of a focus on guitar-driven metal. In the last couple years I've been finding myself listening to heavier bands and those influences have been creeping into the way I'm approaching my song writing. But even with the heavier sound, the songs will keep the unique sound that Aittala has been complemented on.” More...

Mist Within Frontman on the Iranian Metal Scene
When we hear about Iran nowadays, it is often in a heavy context wrapped around religious or political narratives. Iran is almost never associated with Heavy Metal - in fact, metal is barely tolerated in Iran, and is a subject aligned with devil-worship, ostracized to the fullest extent of human ability and political power.
However, where conflict and revolution percolate in response to perceived oppression and omission, a growing interest in all things forbidden, dark and heavy is born. Mist Within is just one example of Iran's youth seemingly corrupted and ruined by Western culture. Their hunger and passion for our literature, cinema and music - utterly nonexistent to Iranian eyes and ears just 50 years ago - has contributed to the emergence of a diverse musical underground rife with intensely talented men and women looking for a way to be heard.
Here, Mist Within vocalist Alireza Motevasel enlightens us on their upcoming album, the Iranian scene and what it is like to be a metalhead in one of the most controversial nations on Earth. More...

Queensrÿche Begins Work On New Album
With the Queensrÿche canvas wiped completely clean and the band's easel the strongest and most stable it's been in years, Eddie Jackson, Todd LaTorre, Parker Lundgren, Scott Rockenfield and Michael Wilton forge ahead to create yet another QR masterpiece. The band has already begun writing new material for the follow up to their critically acclaimed self-titled 2013 Century Media Records release, Queensrÿche. The new album is tentatively scheduled for release in early summer 2015.
"The Queensrÿche internal dynamic has certainly changed in terms of musicianship. It's more of a cohesive team and the chemistry we have now is making what we can do creatively limitless. For Queensrÿche, it was always about being able to write together as a band. We didn't have that for a long time but now that it's back, we feel extremely liberated," states founding guitarist Michael Wilton. "We've already begun the writing process for the next album and have a few songs demoed that we feel really good about. We're taking the songs in the classic Queensrÿche direction but maybe a little more progressive and heavier at times. The thing is, you never know what you really have until it's complete. We can't wait for the final outcome. Writing with such a dynamic group of individuals has been nothing short of amazing."
Queensrÿche recently reached a settlement in their dispute over the ownership of the Queensrÿche name and brand. Century Media is pleased to announce that Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield and Michael Wilton have successfully agreed to purchase Geoff Tate's portion of the Queensrÿche name. The band will buy out their former lead singer's share of the Queensrÿche corporation while allowing him the ability to be the only one to perform Operation: Mindcrime and Operation: Mindcrime II in their entirety. He will no longer have use of the TriRyche logo or any other album images aside from the Mindcrime releases. He can only refer to himself as the "Original Lead Singer of Queensrÿche or "Formerly of Queensrÿche" for a period of two years and that text must be at least 50% smaller than his name in all materials. After this two year period passes, he can only refer to himself as Geoff Tate with no mention of Queensrÿche at all. Geoff Tate will be able to finish any confirmed dates billed for More...
Def Con One Debuts New Video
Metal Shock Finland has debuted the new video from Def Con One, titled "Skinhead Shaped Dent," which can be viewed at this location or below. The track comes from the Newcastle band's recent sophomore release, "II."
"Skinhead Shaped Dent" was filmed at Garage Studios in South Shields. The band commented about the interesting choice of song title:
“The song title came about when we were on our way to Les Fest in Scotland we stopped off at some services for some food and as we were leaving the restaurant, a car nearly knocked us down. Steve said if the car had hit us there would be a big skinhead shaped dent in the car, we all fell about laughing thinking it was so funny but then thought it would make a killer song title!”
Senior Manager Ali Blackdiamond comments:
“This song and video lives up to what we expect to hear from Def Con One – brutal chugging riffs combined with Davey’s vocals and Antton’s precision drumming makes for the ultimate metal listening experience, don’t miss it!”
