Adelaide heavy metal crew Far West Battlefront has formally recruited a new vocalist into its ranks.
The band has been on the lookout for a new vocalist since Adam Atkins decided to bow out in July last year, formally departing at the end of 2013 with his last set at the Vans Warped Tour. In October, the band posted an instrumental track to YouTube and asked people to record their own lyrics over the top to audition.
“After having two members quit the band this year the rest of us are faced with one of the toughest decisions of our lives: retire the band, or push on wounded and fight the good fight. To sink or swim,” the band wrote with the video. “…But, after a few schnitzels and much deliberation we have decided to push forward with the band and search for a new singer. Our love for this is too much to let it all go, and we'd have nothing else better to do each afternoon after work anyway... except maybe burn game!”
All the tapes are in and they’ve scuttled to Victoria for a sneaky test trip. The verdict: Kieran Wright (to be known as “Ron”) will be taking the place behind the mic. In a statement published to the band’s Facebook page, Far West Battlefront said:
“First and foremost we would like to thank anyone who auditioned for the role and took the time to record his or her interpretation of the song. It was truly humbling to hear not only national participants but receive takes from those based internationally also.
"This is not a decision we rushed or took lightly and spent many months going through auditions and jamming with those candidates we thought suitable. After the completion of our recent Victorian tour it became apparent that Kieran is not only the right guy for the job vocally, but he also gels perfectly with the rest of us and is on the same wavelength with the new material."
Florida-based melodic metal band Artizan will enter the studio in September, once again with producer Jim Morris (Iced Earth, Crimson Glory, Death).
This will be the band's first fully realized concept album featuring a sci-fi theme. Fans can expect all of the musical elements that Artizan is known for: melodic heavy metal with dynamic, progressive passages and some serious hooks. The story will take the listener on an emotional journey of hope, struggle, adventure and discovery.
Artizan also announced that the band will be offering two versions of the physical release: a standard CD with artwork by Marc Sasso (Dio, Halford) who illustrated the first Artizan album "Curse of the Artizan" (reviewed here) and a special limited edition featuring the work of Berlin based artist Eliran Kantor (Testament, Hatebreed).
Eliran created the art for the current Artizan release "Ancestral Energy." The fans will essentially have a choice of how they can experience the visual representation of the new album. An extensive Indiegogo campaign is expected to launch in July giving exclusive access to both versions.

Prepare to be crushed under the tank-treads of the most brutal death-crust record ever: Mutilated Veterans' "Necro Crust Warhead" 12" MLP, set for international release on August 5th via Hells Headbangers. The label comments:
"Exactly what its title says, Necro Crust Warhead is a hulking, heaving mass of utter D-beat destruction, galloping like the four horsemen of the apocalypse on the bones of the battlefield's dead. But far from being mere Discharge plagiarists, Mutilated Veterans up-ratchet the D-beat idiom with a molten metallic might that handily trounces even the most "brutal" death metal band - not surprising here, as erstwhile Machetazo founder Dopi is one of the Mutilated Veterans.
"The mission of Necro Crust Warhead is absurdly simple: get in, get out, and CRUSH-KILL-DESTROY. This is the future of No Future... Recommended for diehards of later Anti-Cimex, Disgust (UK), Wolfpack, Crude SS, and Warcollapse."
The track listing is as follows:
1. March of the Mutilated (intro)
2. War Funeral
3. Blood Militia
4. A Tank Full of Corpses
5. Triumph of Torture
6. Carnage Warfare More...

Between touring the world with Soulfly and preparing the upcoming Cavalera Conspiracy album, Brazilian Metal icon, Max Cavalera, found the time to release an album with the super group Killer Be Killed and finally unveil his long-awaited autobiography, "My Bloody Roots."
It's fair to say that this 44-year-old metal legend isn't resting on his laurels but striving for new creative heights. For him, stopping isn't an option.
We had the opportunity to talk with Max about his experience with Killer Be Killed (which also includes members of Mastodon, The Mars Volta and The Dillinger Escape Plan) and the process of putting together "My Bloody Roots" with author Joel McIver. We found him eager and excited to talk about these two new projects.
Do you remember how Killer Be Killed was put together?
Yeah. It was (vocalist) Greg Puciato’s idea. He wanted to do a project and he invited me to do it with him and we did some demos and it was really cool. We added a drummer, David Elitch. He was Greg’s friend, great drummer and we wrote more songs with him and then we ended up inviting Troy from Mastodon, to be the bass player and singer and having three singers. I think that’s really the coolest thing about Killer be Killed, the band has three vocalists. That’s so unique in Metal and made the record really cool and we practiced a lot.
We practiced and wrote songs in different phases and finally we entered the studio and sit down and did the whole record. I’m really excited because I think is a really good record.
You are very well-known guys in the Metal scene. On top of that, the band has three vocalists. Was this an advantage or a problem while writing/recording? Were there big egos clashing during the process? More...
