Iraqi metal outfit Acrassicauda - which was the subject of the "Heavy Metal In Baghdad" documentary - is now finally recording a full-length album.
The band has launched a crowd funding campaign for the release, and you can find all the available perks and make a donation at Kickstarter.com here. Acrassicauda comments:
"The new album takes the band’s signature thrash and doom metal into new territory, digging into their Middle Eastern roots. Allies and fans can get music, merch, DVDs, and personalized rewards to take part in the campaign.
"Breaking away from the old adage of politics, exile, war, death and destruction, Acrassicauda’s new take on things brings a breath of fresh air into the lives of the band members and allows them to break away from the past traumas and uncertainties of war torn Iraq.
"The new album pays homage to the ancient Mesopotamian civilization using the Epic of Gilgamesh, an ancient poem written in the Acadian language in the 3rd millennium BC, originally inscribed on 12 tablets in cuneiform script. Delving into themes of exotic journeys, life and death, love, the divine, success and failure, the Epic of Gilgamesh has much in common with the experiences of the band —it is a humble yet honest comparison. The LP is an ode to the modern Iraq, a home from which they are exiled today." More...

Rising metal four-piece Lorna Shore today releases a new video for "Cre(h)ate." The track is featured on the band's sophomore EP, "Maleficium," which was self-released by the band in December and subsequently re-released on Density Records in March.
A young woman delves into black magic only to meet a violent end in the “Cre(h)ate” video, which was shot by director Jeremy Tremp and can be seen below.
"The ‘Cre(h)ate’ video builds on our message that began with the ‘Godmaker’ video,” says bassist Gary Herrera. “The song is about people who follow things blindly and in this video the woman continues to test her luck with demonic spirits. She eventually creates one she can't contain using the Lorna Shore sigil. This represents our message to everyone who is listening and watching - we will not follow anything blindly and will continue to do things our way." More...
The Denver thrashers in Havok have premiered a new video for "Chasing The Edge" taken from the band's third full-length album on Candlelight Records, "Unnatural Selection."
Produced by guitarist David Sanchez, mixed by Terry Date, and mastered by James Murphy, the album features original artwork from Polish illustrator Rafal Wechterowicz. David Sanchez comments on the new video:
"In case you couldn't tell by the video, 'Chasing the Edge' is about space exploration. This song is dedicated to Nicolaus Copernicus and his groundbreaking idea that sparked the modern scientific revolution. Without his bold observations that turned the Church on its head, you might not be reading this text on a computer screen right now! The lyrics are dictated from Copernicus' point of view, but of course, the meaning of the song can be interpreted in many different ways.
"Astronomy is very humbling when you realize that we are an incredibly tiny part of the cosmos. No matter how self-interested our society becomes, it should always be remembered that we are not the center of the universe... There is just SO much out there. Every time I look up at the night sky, I can't help but contemplate the possibility that somewhere out there, there are creatures looking at our star; Wondering, like myself, about the possibility of life near our tiny pinhole of light, which we call the Sun. Peering into the vast ocean of suns above our heads is a mind-expanding exercise and I recommend that people do it more often. What greater fountain of mystery and wonder could you possibly look at with your own two eyes?
"We live in a historic time of human triumph and incredible discovery. It would be a shame to let these advances in understanding go unappreciated. We should be grateful for revolutionary thinkers like Nicolaus Copernicus and always remember, like the song says, 'That an open mind has the biggest impact.'" More...

Last week on the Metalunderground.com Official Podcast, we reviewed a series of new full-length releases. This week, we were forced to settle for mere songs, tastes of albums soon to come.
Co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) gets things started by reviewing the new Entombed A.D. song "Bedlam Attack," off the forthcoming album "Back To The Front.” You may also know this band as Sweden’s long-running pioneer act Entombed - creators of the death metal classics “Left Hand Path” and “Clandestine,” and “death ’n’ roll” landmark “Wolverine Blues” - and Mike offers his take on the legal dispute that led to the slight name change.
Then co-host Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) reviews the new song "Thirst," off the imminent album "From Parts Unknown” by Buffalo, New York’s eclectic hardcore punkers Every Time I Die. As with Entombed, this band has never been too shy to experiment stylistically, and Kevin evaluates the quirky evolution leading up to this current work.
Finally, we react to a bizarre international story. Poland’s Behemoth just can’t seem to stay out of trouble these days, and due to alleged “wrong visas,” the band was recently detained and deported from Russia while on tour. Though Randy Blythe’s (Lamb Of God) 2012 fate in the Czech Republic was thankfully averted, we can’t help but feel troubled over the occasional pitfalls of travel in this part of the world - and if frontman Nergal’s account is accurate, the jail accommodations were, to put it politely, less than sanitary.
Austrian traditional metal band Mortician (not the U.S. death metal band of the same name) has entered the studio to record a new album.

Patrik Lercher - bass
Thomas Metzler - guitar
Daniel Khan - vocals
Gergely Nagy - drums More...

Arch Enemy continues the run of Century Media artists supporting Decibel Magazine with an exclusive flexi disc featuring two cover tracks, Moderat Likvidation's "Nitad" and Anti Cimex's "When The Innocent Die."
Michael Amott (guitar) comments: "When approached about doing the Decibel Magazine flexi, I immediately knew I wanted to pay tribute to some of my earliest influences in the 80's Swedish punk scene! 'Nitad' and 'When The Innocent Die' were recorded in Arch Enemy's rehearsal space and the result is abrasive and extreme, punk as fuck!"
"Nitad" and "When The Innocent Die" were recorded during the "War Eternal" studio session. For a preview of Arch Enemy's upcoming album (reviewed here), be sure to check out part 1 of the track-by-track video series below.

Black Star Riders today announces the departure of bass player Marco Mendoza after the band’s current U.S. tour, ending June 22nd.
Marco, a founding member of Black Star Riders, has decided to pursue other projects after potential conflicts in schedules. His replacement will be Robbie Crane (formerly of RATT and Lynch Mob).
Guitarist Scott Gorham comments: “I am very sad to see Marco go. We have been together in a band now for almost 20 years and Marco is my brother and we wish him well for the future. It’s an amicable parting of ways and we all respect that Marco wants to do other projects outside of Black Star Riders and there just isn’t time to do both.”
Vocalist Ricky Warwick adds: “Marco will always be part of the BSR family and a true friend of ours. We are very happy to introduce Robbie Crane to everyone as the new BSR bass player. The guy killed the audition and we can’t wait to get on stage with him on our Euro run starting mid July and then of course in the studio in the autumn for the recording of the second Black Star Riders record.”
Marco Mendoza issued this statement: “I loved my time in Black Star Riders and want to thank all the fans for making the last year on road so successful. I am sorry to be leaving the band but I feel it’s time for me to pursue other avenues, some of which I have already been working with, all of which I am very excited about. I wish the guys all success in the future and I am very happy that my friend Robbie Crane will continue to blaze with BSR.”
But exciting things are ahead with the addition of veteran bassist Robbie Crane, who states: “I am very excited to be a part of the Black Star Riders family. As a long time fan of their music, I am thrilled to be a part of the band.” More...

Vancouver's Baptists recently completed work on a second full-length album, the follow-up to the 2013 debut "Bushcraft."
Entitled "Bloodmines," the new album was recorded at Godcity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts with Kurt Ballou and will be released via Southern Lord worldwide in September. The following press release was issued about the album:
"Like its predecessor, Bloodmines is a fast, exhilarating album of rage, oozing with genuine raw emotion and punk rock fury. Shards of feedback make way for fast powerful riffs and savage vocals, whilst explosive drumming pumps blood around the band's beating heart. On album tracks like 'Vistas,' 'Calling,' and the title track, 'Bloodmines,' the pace changes, revealing powerful, almost anthemic, jagged noise rock akin to influential San Diego post-hardcore band Drive Like Jehu and similar acts which go beyond the two minute mark. Discordant guitar melodies and abrasive vocal passages are elongated, still volatile but perhaps allowing for further contemplation of the band's underlying message.
"Baptists continually find new ways to express their rage and with Bloodmines they have created a memorable and commanding album. Official release dates and previews of the album will be released throughout the Summer months.
"Additionally, Baptists is one of dozens of acts confirmed to raid Tucson, Arizona on October 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th for Southwest Terror Fest III: The Western Front, joining Neurosis, Sunn O))), Goatsnake, Pelican, -16-, The Body, Eagle Twin, Author & Punisher, Primitive Man, Obliterations, Secrets Of The Sky, Godhunter and tons more. More on SWTF can be found here, and further Baptists tour actions will be disclosed over the coming weeks." More...

"We are very upset cause we've been planning this for a whole year and even passed up many other opportunities for this. We apologize to all our friends and fans from down under that were looking forward to see us.
