The Tuscon-based genre mishmashers in Animus Divine are following 2011's "Sorrow" album (reviewed here) with the release of new disc "NOVO."
We previously had the pleasure of premiering the new track "Leonard Lawrence" online (check it out below), and now the band has also offered us a first-hand look into to the specifics of this new release.

Detroit, MI's Battlecross is releasing a new cover of Slayer's "War Ensemble." SiriusXM Liquid Metal's Jose Mangin will debut the track live today at 5:00 pm EST. It will then repeat every three hours throughout the weekend.
Guitarist Hiran Deraniyagala says, "Slayer is obviously one of our biggest influences. Slayer taught me personally to not give a fuck and throw in attitude in your riffs. War Ensemble is one of my favorite Slayer songs because it embodies the aggression and attitude of Slayer but also is more dynamic than a traditional Slayer song that is all speed.
"Jeff Hanneman was an underrated player and it's shame his greatness was only recognized after he passed. In honor of Jeff we wanted to cover 'War Ensemble' and throw in a bit of our own twist and speed to the song. Slayer!!!!!!"
The track will be available for streaming online on May 27th and will later be made available to fans via iTunes.
Battlecross' cover of "War Ensemble" was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Matt Dalton at 37 Studios in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
Battlecross recently kicked off a North American tour with Killswitch Engage and Trivium. The tour will wrap up at the end of May, and then the band will regroup and venture to Europe in June for a series of festival appearances, as well as club shows with Huntress. The entire confirmed listing of dates can be seen below. More...
Frail Grounds - the progressive metal band from Norway - will be heading to Germany and Belgium for a weekend tour this summer. Promoting the release of the debut album "The Fields Of Trauma," Frail Grounds is excited to finally bring the album to new locations.
The band comments: "It’s a great feeling breaking out of Norway and finally travelling to where there is such a great metal community! Both in Germany and Belgium we recieved great press coverage and feedback for ’The Fields Of Trauma,’ so it’s just fair that we get our asses down there to give everyone our very best heavy progressive metal! While we of course will be playing the best from ’The Fields Of Trauma’, we will also include some older stuff from ‘Corrosion’ (EP, 2008) and present some brand new tracks! Hope to see you in München, Berlin or Peer for some awesome nights!”
Frail Grounds will be playing at following dates and venues:
Friday 20th June: Blackland Metal Pub, Berlin (DE)
Saturday 21st June: The Other Side, Peer (BE)
Sunday 22nd June: Garage Deluxe, München More...
Calgary, AB's Throne of Vengeance has teamed up with Decibel Magazine for the premiere of new music video "Live Evil," which can be viewed below. Drummer Trevor Cobb comments:
“Live Evil is the title track from our 2013 EP. The song is a testament to karma involved in our everyday lives, with every action there are equal and unavoidable reactions. The video sheds light on Tommy (our lead singer)’s day as he goes about his business. He is faced with two choices and the resulting consequences are brought to life. Will he take a moral stand or let the evils of inaction consume him?”
In additional news, Throne Of Vengeance will be performing at this year's Calgary MetalFest on June 4th for the free festival launch party show alongside WAKE, Chron Goblin, Alkatine, Million Dollar Fix and Open AIR at the Ship & Anchor Pub. Catch the band live:

On May 27th, the St. Louis doom-bringers in The Lion's Daughter - along with Memphis metallic hardcore unit Nights Like These - will unleash a very special split seven-inch.
The seven-inch features one new track from each band and marks the first new output from Nights Like These, who released two full-lengths on Victory Records before disbanding in 2006, in eight years.
100% of the record's proceeds will be donated to dog and cat rescue organizations established to save stray animals in need of medical attention, restore them to health, and place them in loving adoptive homes.
In honor of its release, Cvlt Nation is currently streaming The Lion's Daughter's "As The Sick Dream" (check it out below).
Elaborates vocalist/guitarist Rick Giordano, "This was the first song we had written after collaborating with Indian Blanket on A Black Sea, and our first opportunity to explore and utilize some of the things we had learned while making that album. I think our band has grown a lot in the couple of years since our last release as The Lion's Daughter, and discovered our band sounding more focused and matured than we had in the past. This song's lyrics became based around on my anger towards all the animal abuse cases I've witnessed here in St. Louis over the past year, and so the song very naturally paved it's own way to becoming a single to benefit dogs and cats."
Pre-orders are available at this location. Two special record release shows will be held next month: one in St. Louis at the Ready Room, which will see 100% of tickets sales sold at the door going to Stray Rescue and another in Memphis with the door going to Blue Sky Rescue and The Street Dog Foundation.

Locrian has premiered a brand new video via The Quietus today. The video is for the track "Return to Annihilation," taken from the album of the same name released last year via Relapse Records. Check it out below.
The seven minute video was created by director Francesca Marongiu. Locrian's Terence Hannum commented: "One of the main influences was Andrei Tarkovsky's film 'Stalker,' and she [Francesca] tried to emulate that movie's bleak environmental landscape. One where the government blocks people from entering an area called 'the Zone' but people can enter illegally and confront a landscape that is always changing."
André Foisy further commented on the video concept and working with Francesca: "We asked Francesca to make a video since we’ve collaborated successfully before and we’ve been blown away by other videos that she’s made for her own project Agarttha and for Oikos. There’s a theme of mirrors in the album that Francesco embodies in the video in a very frightening way.
"One thing that’s so interesting about decay and destruction is that there’s this ghostly moment where a scene from the present post-industrial world is almost indistinguishable from a scene from a very primordial world. The video displays the slippage in the ghostly mirroring that’s both a modern world and a primordial one and that’s very disturbing." More...

After streaming "Freitheit Gleichheit Brüderlichkeit" and "Was bleibt bin," Die Apokalyptischen Reiter now presents another track from the new double album "Tief.Tiefer." that is due out May 30th.
"Die Zeit" is the band’s first ever acoustic song and it can be heard in the player below. Commented the band:
"The recording sessions had a truly magical, special atmosphere. Unlike the rough first part 'Tief,' we decided to try new things with 'Tiefer,' things that have been appealing to us for a long time now. Newly interpreting old classics and entering new paths without alienation gave us shivers each time. We asked our video team to just film during recordings. A sweaty, intense performance during our loud shows can be very addictive, but we also enjoy slowing down. It’s definitely cool to play, sitting down. We’re already looking forward to our acoustic tour in the spring of 2015. The dates will be announced this fall.”
Minneapolis power metal outfit Heliosaga has issued the following update about working on a new album:
"Hello, everyone! It's about time to give an update on our progress. The album release has taken a bit longer than we expected.
"We initially mixed the album where we recorded, but decided that we wanted to take it in a different direction. The album will now be mixed by Michael Hansen (Phonomik, Chainfist) and mastered by Jacob Hansen (Epica, Volbeat).
"Jacob will also be reamping the guitars! The artwork and photos for the album are just about finished as well.
"The artwork looks great and is being done by Artside Digital Studio (Shaman, Edu Falaschi). We should have more updates for you in the coming weeks!"
Astral Doors has finished work on new album "Notes From The Shadows," which is due out August 29th, 2014.
The band has now released the cover artwork, which can be seen below. Jonas Kjellgren handled the mixing and mastering of the album, and photos from the recording sessions can be seen at this location.
NYHC outfit Madball has posted a new video trailer in which the band talks upcoming album, "Hardcore Lives."
The "Hardcore Lives" album is set to be released on June 27th, 2014 via Nuclear Blast and was tracked & engineered by Unearthed guitarist Ken Susi and mixed & mastered by long time collaborator Zeuss. Frontman Freddy Cricien explains the album title as follows:
"I shouted 'Hardcore Lives' on Madball's first release, 'Ball Of Destruction' - I was twelve then. It wasn't pre planned or written down... it was an ad-lib that I just threw out there and we kept it! Back then there was no choice really, not the way we were recording - two track live at Don Fury's... NYHC style! I feel the sentiment behind the expression still holds true today, maybe even more so. Hence the reason we finally chose to use it as a title.
"Sure, it's about waving the flag for our genre/culture, etc. - I've always felt that 'we as a scene' had to scream just a lil louder... to be heard! That said, 'Hardcore Lives' at least to us, is not just about a cool 'catchphrase' - it's about that rebellious spirit that doesn't give in... In life, music, whatever. It's about growing, evolving, and maintaining your integrity in the process. It's about family, overcoming adversity, and respect. All the things that matter inside and outside of the music realm. It's for everyone and anyone with an open mind and heart." More...
It's a review-o-rama this week on the Metalunderground.com Official Podcast! Your co-hosts Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) and Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) treat you to a whirlwind of reactions to three very different new metal releases - but not before Kevin reminds you of our ticket giveaway for DevilDriver at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, June 18th. Interested Florida residents should tune in for details.
First order of review business: the self-titled debut of eclectic supergroup Killer Be Killed, featuring Max Cavalera (Soulfly), Greg Puciato (The Dillinger Escape Plan), Troy Sanders (Mastodon), and Dave Elitch (ex-The Mars Volta). This review is mainly Kevin's bag, with a few cents from Mike on some of the distressing "metal hipster" comments on YouTube.
Next, Mike takes over to rave about Arch Enemy's hotly anticipated tenth studio album "War Eternal," the first to feature new guitarist Nick Cordle (ex-Arsis) of Charlottesville, Virginia fame (Mike's proud hometown) and vocalist Alissa White-Gluz (ex-The Agonist) of Montreal, Quebec. As far as Mike is concerned, this is some of the band's strongest material since the classic "Wages Of Sin" and is a must-buy release of 2014.
Finally, with heavy hearts, Kevin and Mike tackle the unpleasant burden of dissecting the new Mushroomhead album "The Righteous & The Butterfly," which both confirmed fans sadly agree constitutes the band's weakest material to date - a major letdown after a four-year wait and the hyped return of beloved vocalist Jason "J-Mann" Popson. However, they do their best to look on the bright side, though it is admittedly a struggle.
Tune in here, enjoy, and don't hesitate to offer us your feedback.
Set for release on June 2nd 2014, "Octopus4" follows The Algorithm's debut album "Polymorphic Code."
Today a new track from the album is available online. Check out "will_smith" in the player below, or you can hear the previous song "synthesiz3r" at this location. The full album's track listing is as follows:
7. damage points
10. un dernier combat
11. recovery fail!

The guys are cycling 259 km from London to the Download Festival in the U.K. participating in the Heavy Metal Truants annual heavy metal charity bicycle ride. To raise even more money, starting tomorrow at 19.00CET/18.00UK, Hell will be selling several unique pieces from the band's history, including what might be the world's last three mint unplayed copies of the original 1983 "Save Us" 7" vinyl. Anglo-Swedish modern metal powerhouse Sonic Syndicate has announced upcoming festival dates as well as a tour supporting the band's upcoming fifth, self-titled studio album: the "Diabolical Tour Of Art." Commented the band:
"It’s crazy, exciting, and mind-blowing to be back! The one thing we were looking forward to more than hitting the studio, was getting back on the road and seeing our fans, and now we have a killer new album to go out with! We can’t wait for you to hear the new material, and of course we’ll be ripping apart the stage with our favorite songs from all our albums! It is our personal mission to guarantee that these will be our most kick-ass, energetic and dynamic live shows yet. If you’ve seen SOSY live before then you’re gonna want to see the 'Diabolical Tour of Art' as its gonna be bigger, better and more bad-ass. If you’ve never seen SOSY live before then now is the perfect time to join the party, and get to one of the cities we’re playing. Damn, this is gonna be good!”
The album is set to be released July 4th, 2014 via Nuclear Blast. Commented guitarist, main songwriter and founding member, Robin Sjunnesson:
"We decided to go with this one as a 'self-titled' release. Mainly because as an album we have put everything we’ve got into it. All of our experience as musicians, the evolution of the music, the sound from all eras of the band, and also the road we have taken as people. This is us, this is Sonic Syndicate in all its beauty and destruction. It shows our strength, our love for melody, our scars, our energy. The cover art is a definite representation of that. In the background, a battle-torn city laid to waste, four figures emerging together with only each other to depend on in an environment so harsh, only those with a tough heart, body and soul can survive. The tone throughout this album is definitely darker, and as my Swedish family would say “With a red-line running in the middle” so we put this into the colour-scheme. We could not be more proud of this album, and we thank our fans for the support, it's because of them that we’re here. This album is for you.” More...

"Born of growling bass, thundering drums and enough melancholia to fill the pits of hell, Deathkings are here to satiate the collective need for dissonant, progressive, stomach-rumbling doom. To start at the beginning, many things had to come to an end. Daryl Hernandez and Nicolas Rocha were both spawned in similar musical history having shared a band together since the late '90s.
"Once embarked upon, the journey acquired Sean Spindler to see the recording of Destroyer within his first month in the group with former guitarist Steve Parilla. A chance encounter brought Mark Luntzel into the group to fill the secondary guitarist position while continuing onward into musical progression.
"Progressively seeking melodic enlightenment, the band recently finalized the production of their next endeavor, All That Is Beautiful, and are working towards assembling its future release." More...

The album also features guest leads by Eric Cutler (Autopsy) and CC DeKill (Gravehill), as well as artwork once again by the master Juanjo Castellano. A vinyl LP version of "Imago" will be released through Deathgasm and Doomentia Records in the coming weeks.
Australian metal act Darker Half is streaming the new track "Nemesis." The song will appear on the band's upcoming new album "Never Surrender." The album is tentatively scheduled to drop in June, and further details are forthcoming.
"Never Surrender" is the first album in three years, when the band released "Desensitized" via Rockstar Records. Check out "Nemesis" here:
