Aeternus and Mitochondrion Scratched From MDF
Aeternus and Mitochondrion will not be making it to Maryland Deathfest 2014 as a result of visa issues. The festival organizer commented:
"Regarding Aeternus, it's a complicated ordeal to explain, but in a nutshell, the USCIS fucked up and gave them a visa date valid only until the day BEFORE they were supposed to leave the US. The original request was for visas valid until June 1st, but this error on behalf of the USCIS was not noticed until they were at the airport today and the airline told them they could not fly to the US. Frustrated? So are we, and so is the band. This is the first time a band actually received visas and still ended up cancelling for some reason."
"BÖLZER will be playing a second set at Rams Head tomorrow night. We will update the schedule tonight reflecting that change."
"Regarding Mitochondrion, we don't really understand what happened, but it had something to do with being stopped at the Canadian/US border and sent back home. We have a lot on our plate right now, as you can probably imagine, so please be patient and stay tuned regarding schedule changes to the Sunday shows at Rams Head."

Civil War Recruits New Guitarist
Swedish metal band Civil War hereby announces that guitarist Petrus Granar will be added as a full member to the line-up. The band comments:
"He as of today officially joined the band with a 'wet' ceremony baptizing him in Champagne, what else…
"Petrus have been a friend and working closely with the band since 'The Killer Angels' with demos, arrangements etc. He is a very talented guitarist and good with arrangements. Petrus also worked as a backline tech for the band since last November. It feels just natural to offer him a place with the band as he’s been our '7th member' all along.
"We look forward to have him in our band of brothers and he will add another dimension to our live sound and push the boundaries for what we can do with pretty much everything both on album and what we can make out of it as a live band."

Vardan Announces "Enjoy Of Deep Sadness" Release
Moribund Records today announces August 5th as the release date for Vardan's "Enjoy of Deep Sadness."
Hot on the heels of "The Woods is My Coffin," released by Moribund earlier this year, Vardan returns with his most soul-draining release yet, "Enjoy of Deep Sadness." Chronologically the 12th album in the restless solo artist's growing catalog, "Enjoy of Deep Sadness" is everything its title promises: sorrowful, time-stretched epics of hauntingly melodic melancholy. But this time, Vardan elongates his depressive suicidal black metal into three double-digit funeral dirges that total 36 minutes of cold, grim majesty. The track listing is as follows:
1. A Broken Existence (11:21)
2. Enjoy Of Deep Sadness (11:34)
3. An Abstract Voice (12:23)
You can also hear the song "Goatcraft" from the previously released "The Woods Is My Coffin" album below. More...
Children Of Technology To Release "Future Decay"
Hells Headbangers has set August 19th as the international release date for Children Of Technology's "Future Decay," due to be release on CD and LP formats. The label comments:
"Busy out cruising the post-apocalyptic wasteland, Italian speed metalpunks Children Of Technology are back with their highly anticipated second album, Future Decay. Four long years after their cult-classic It's Time to Face the Doomsday debut, the shit-hot Children Of Technology here crank up everything that made that record so special to so many listeners worldwide: more metal, more punk, more darkness, more fun, more crushing production, more crazed performances, more of MORE.
"Literally, everything on Future Decay is turned up to 11, and then beyond! It's often been said that Children Of Technology are the metalpunk analogue of the Mad Max films. With Future Decay, however, they mainline into musical form every cult '80s movie to feature bikers, zombies, and zombie bikers and set them across a bleak, bombed-out landscape that's their own choosing rather than one that's already been created. And with it, Children Of Technology paint a portrait of Future Decay..."
The track listing is as follows:
1. Future Decay
2. Remembrance Day
3. Blackout
4. Hold Up Your Fuel
5. Eaten Dust Overload
6. Under the Ripping Storm
7. Last Sunshine Gleaming
8. Fear the Mohawk Reaper More...
Religious Group Tries To Shut Down Buckcherry Show
Los Angeles-based rockers Buckcherry took the stage Tuesday night at Dixie Roadhouse in Cape Coral despite the best efforts of local religious group the Holy Family.
In a letter posted on the band's bus door (check it out below), as well as on the venue's door, a spokesperson for the Holy Family in Cape Coral demanded that the show be canceled. "I do apologize for the last minute notice," the letter began, "however I'm afraid the concert is going to definitely have to be canceled."
The author continued, citing Buckcherry's "totally disgusting" lyrics and their "contrived ignorant babble and filth" as the reasons that the show must not go on. In a twist few saw coming, the letter also made a note of pointing out that aside from the explicit lyrics, the "Holy Family very much enjoys Buckcherry's music."
In addition to the letter, Dixie Roadhouse also confirmed two separate bomb scares. The details of the scares are not readily available, nor is it confirmed that the Holy Family is responsible, but the letter's closing paragraph states that "anyone who says this is a hoax is a lying idiot."
Despite the trouble, Buckcherry persevered, and took the stage. Venue security "stepped it up and the show went off without a hitch," according to the band's manager.
"We came here to entertain a large group of people that wanted to have a good time," said guitarist Keith Nelson, "and that's exactly what we did." Lead singer Josh Todd added "Buckcherry has always been about having a good time and we express ourselves the way we want to because we are free. They don't like our lyrics and hide behind religion as an excuse to attack us as a group or treat other people poorly. Well they can just fuck right off." More...

Valdur Emerging From Seclusion
While the band's third full-length, "At War With," inundated the masses in 2013, Mammoth Lake, California-based black/death trio Valdur has remained secluded from band actions for several months, but now the cult confirms its upcoming emergence from the Sierra Nevada catacombs for a special live performance, as well as the penning of new material.
On July 9th, Valdur will invade Sacramento to provide direct support for the only West Coast appearance of the mighty Sargeist, the bill also including Killgasm and Pale Chalice.
Collectively comments the Valdur clan: "We chose to step back and remain quiet for a while by not playing live or being active as a band, besides releasing At War With at the end of last year. But we have agreed to play a special Sacramento show set up by our friend Jaime from Killgasm. The plan is to then retreat back into privacy here in our mountain town of the Eastern Sierras and continue to compose some strange music indeed...."

Carpenter also made a statement: "I've decided to join forces with Iron Mask. I grew up listening to Neo-Classical metal so this should be great fun! Mark Boals -who sang on my favorite Yngwie Malmsteen album "Trilogy" was the vocalist on Iron Mask's last album...so it all makes very good sense
Here's a pic of Vassili, myself and Dushan Petrossi at the Citadelle in Namur last night. It doesn't get more metal then that... We lifted a pint or two in the promise of bringing you something special!" More...

Bassist Randy Coven, who has worked with Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Ark, Holy Mother and Vitalij Kuprij, passed away on Tuesday, May 20th. A statement released by the Coven family reads:
"It is with deepest and great sorrow, We must inform you our beloved Randy passed away on Tuesday. Services will be held at Mt Ararat cemetery on Thursday at 1.15pm."
Coven grew up in Long Island, New York around the same period as Vai and Joe Satriani. He later roomed with Vai at Berklee College of Music, before forming the band Morning Thunder. In addition to his work on albums such as Ark's "Burn the Sun" (2001), MCM's "Ritual Factory" (2004), Vitalij Kuprij's "Revenge" (2005) and "Glacial Inferno" (2007) and appearing on Yngwie Malmsteen's "Live in Korea" in 2009, Coven released three solo albums, the latest of which was "Witch Way" in 2002.
Jorn Lande (ex-MasterPlan), who worked with Coven in Ark, posted the following about Coven on his official Facebook page: "My old friend Randy Coven passed away on 20th of May. He was only 54! Unfortunately, I didn't get to hook up with Randy after we worked together some years ago, we were both keeping busy and time just flew by. I'm proud to have known and worked with Randy. He was such a funny and talented man, and his great sense of humor gave us many good laughs. His efforts on the Ark album "Burn the sun" speaks for itself. John, Mats, Tore, Randy and myself really created some magic together. My thoughts go to his family and friends. RIP"

Behemoth Reportedly Released From Russia
The Polish news source ZNAK reports that Behemoth was released and deported by a Russian judge in Yekaterinburg after being detained for visa issues. The article indicates (translated from Polish using online resources) that this morning, after being detained the previous evening, a judge decided to release and deport the musicians for failure to obtain a non-business "humanitarian" visa after possessing a valid business visa from the Russian consulate in Warsaw.
The publication reportedly interviewed band leader Adam Michal Darski (a/k/a Nergal), who described the conditions of confinement, stating that the band was held "in a very small room" the size of about a "half meter." The walls were "smeared with feces" and the band was forced to urinate in plastic bottles when denied a request to use the toilet.
Darski was asked whether the band had any plans to issue a complaint with the consulate in Warsaw, to which he replied "First, we want to relax." When asked about further tours and shows in Russia, he replied (translated via online resources): "I think now is not the best time to travel to Russia. So, on May 25 we had a scheduled concert in Moscow. Apparently, the show will have to wait until next time."
