Today Dark Harvest Records is proud to announce the signing of Michican act Laid in Stone. Dark Harvest issued the following press release about the band:
"Laid In Stone formed in late 2009 in the town of Oxford, Michigan by Trent Heichel (guitars) and brothers Kyle (bass) and Danny (drums) Cummings. Soon after, the trio recruited their high school friend and local vocalist Chad Rice, and set about taking Laid In Stone to the top of the metal world.
"The band hit the ground running. Without their line-up finalized and a mere two months before embarking on a self-organized and financed three month U.S. tour, they took to the studio to lay down the first of two independent EPs.
"They quickly gained credit in their local scene by performing with many national acts: Mushroomhead, Before The Fallen Dreams, Arsonists Get All The Girls, As They Sleep, etc. On their first full U.S. tour Laid In Stone sold 1000 CDs hand to hand. This caught the attention of producer Don Debiase (Beneath the Sky, Forever Interror) who helped Laid In Stone with the 2011 EP 'The Perception of Power.'
"This EP emphasized songwriting in place of metal's more common thrash focus, and prompted Tinderbox Music owner Jon Delange to work on landing the group several contracts with major T.V. shows like MTV’s Fantasy Factory and Nitro Circus.
"While earning their stripes on the road, showcasing and developing their sound, Laid In Stone drew up plans for what was to become their full length debut, 'Echoes Left Behind,' at the end of 2011. The band was recruited for Artist Management through Distilled Entertainment and the band began recording soon after. More...
After completing a tour of Europe in support of Propagandhi, followed by a headlining tour, Shai Hulud has returned to the states and is preparing for a next set of confirmed shows.
In July, fans on the east coast will be treated to a handful of shows featuring Earth Crisis as part of the Firstorm 20th Anniversary Tour. Additional support for the east coast portion of the tour will be from Thy Will Be Done and White Widows.
Additional Shai Hulud shows have been confirmed for June and July, including an appearance at Amnesia Rockfest in Montebello, QC. Find the complete listing of dates below.
Shai Hulud's Matt Fox reflects on 2013: "2013 has been a banner year for Shai Hulud, and it's not even summer yet. Seeing the release of 'Reach Beyond The Sun,' touring Australia as a part of the Soundwave Festival (headlined by Metallica - pretty much the reason we play heavy music) and having just returned from Europe after a tour with one of our favorite bands, Propagandhi, has made this year thus far both a blur and a dream, or one and the same depending on how well you remember your dreams, if you can remember them at all. 2013 is one dream we won't soon forget, etched further into our memory receptors - if there are such things - with the dates we confirmed with Earth Crisis, a huge and direct influence on the formation and existence of Shai Hulud. This is a special year for us, and we're grateful not only to share it with those who find something in our music that speaks to them, but also with so many of the bands whose music has spoken, and still speaks to us." After five long years since the group's last release, Milwaukee metal band Misery Signals will return on July 23rd with "Absent Light." Today, the band has officially announced the album title, release date, album artwork, and upcoming record release tour in July and August.
Foregoing the traditional record label release model, Misery Signals launched an Indiegogo campaign in March to work directly with fans to crowd fund the new album by offering unique funding packages that included handwritten lyrics, vinyl box set, music lessons, listening parties and more. By May, the band had not only reached the funding goal, but had surpassed it by double the original amount.
"We were floored by the excitement from the people supporting the album,” guitarist Ryan Morgan says. “It's a good feeling to have an audience matching the enthusiasm we are putting into it's creation - and they haven't even heard it yet! It'll all come together when they get to hear how insane this album is."

"Freedom From The Known," the sophomore full-length from NYC trio Thinning the Herd, is now available on CD and via iTunes with additional digital outlets to follow, released via the band’s own Saint Marks Records.
This Is Not A Scene is now broadcasting "Freedom From The Known" in its entirety, paired with a lively summary of the album’s foundation and what’s transformed within the band between the album’s initial inspiration to the completion of the album, and the hardships the group endured bringing it to fruition. Check out the album breakdown here or stream the full release below.
Founding Thinning The Herd vocalist/guitarist Gavin Spielman had replaced the crew on debut full-length, "Oceans Rise," recruiting a new rhythm section in 2012 with bassist Wes Edmonds and drummer Rick Cimato (ex-Locked In A Vacancy). The new lineup traveled to Chicago last Summer to record the sophomore album "Freedom From The Known" at Electrical Audio Studios with Steven Albini, and as they were preparing to release the new album, Rick Cimato was tragically killed in a head-on collision over the 2012 holiday season.
Mourning the loss of their friend, Spielman and Edmonds hosted several local listening parties of the album for local fans and friends to honor Rick and his family, and then recruited local drummer Garth Macaleavey to carry the new material and TTH as a whole forward. More...

Swedish classic rock superstars Graveyard have been confirmed as direct support for the upcoming European run of Soundgarden. Graveyard comments:
"We've been pretty fucking fortunate with the bands we've had the honour to open for. It's like taking a walk through our record collections, or just through rock history. When you list some of them, it comes off as pretty unreal – Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, and Motorhead. And now - Soundgarden! Not so superunknown guys these days. And with the words of a californian rock dude: Pretty fucking bad ass musicians that can deliver a bunch of face melting jams and shred like there's no tomorrow!
"There isn't really much more to say than that. Of course we're super excited to head out on tour with Soundgarden. In a way it's quite logic. If you think about what the roots of their and our music are. We certainly got one or two things in common there, so hopefully people will see it as good match making?“

Seattle's Sanctuary, featuring Warrell Dane (Nevermore), have signed a worldwide deal with Century Media Records. The long awaited return album "The Year The Sun Died" is expected for a late 2013 release through the label.
The announcement reads: "Century Media Records is proud to announce the signing of the legendary Seattle metal band Sanctuary. In 2010, four of the founding members, Warrel Dane, Jim Sheppard, Lenny Rutledge and Dave Budbill, came together for a few select reunion performances. At first, it was just going to be a handful of shows, but the response and chemistry on stage was so overwhelming that the guys changed their minds. Now, some 20 years after they left off, Sanctuary will continue with their unique mix of US power metal, hard rock and progressive elements and begin work on a new LP. To complete the line-up, Brad Hull (Forced Entry) will be filling in for former guitar player Sean Blosl. A late 2013 release is planned."
The band commented:
Warrel Dane: "Having been with Century Media since 1995 with Nevermore, it was a very comfortable decision for Sanctuary to sign with them. Century Media has a great team that always delivers for all of their bands. I've known most of them on a first name basis for many years and I look forward to this new chapter in history."
Lenny Rutledge: "I can speak for every member of Sanctuary when I say we are all excited to join the Century Media family. We now have the opportunity to work with the best metal record label on the planet. We are looking forward to creating great music with an awesome team behind us."

Swedish psychedelic/progressive doomsters New Keepers Of The Water Towers have released their third full-length album "The Cosmic Child" in North America via Listenable Records. The band had this to say regarding the recording:
"It is our most ambitious work yet. 47 minutes filled with dark but majestic melodies, psychedelic passages and a doomy groove. Some have gone to the lengths of calling it 'Dark side of the Doom' (With reference to Pink Floyd's legendary album with a similar title) and I guess our influences from early 70s progressive music has started to shine through the carpet of distortion."
Metal Hammer UK is streaming the album in full at this location, or below in the player.
The froggy goregrinders with the greatest band name ever are at it again - Vaginal Penetration Of An Amelus With A Musty Carrot has finally released a music video! It should go without saying that this is filed under the "amazingly NSFW" column.

"The main character in the video is a paedophilic psychopath. It’s not people with long hair, piercings or tattoos who are children-fucking perverts, it’s normal and ordinary looking people."
A complete interview with the band about the video can be read here, but as a tease, here's something else the goregrinders had to say: "The filming process was actually very stimulating. I remember everyone having a boner when we did the rape scene."

Epic doom pioneers Candlemass will release the vinyl only live LP "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus - Live at Roadburn 2011" on June 14th via Svart Records. Pre-orders can be made over at this location.
The live album was captured at the sold-out Roadburn Festival in 2011, when the band was celebrating the 25th anniversary of the debut release, one that is credited as being the starting point for modern epic doom metal. The show featured original vocalist Johan Längqvist, who was invited back for a few select shows celebrating the occasion. It was mixed from a professional 32-track recording and mastered vinyl under the supervision of band founder/mainman Leif Edling.
The release will be spread over three sides of vinyl with an etching on side D. The two LPs are wrapped in a gatefold jacket, and the set is available on black or white vinyl. Both versions are limited to 400 pieces.
Edling commented: "No volcano could stop us this time to perform the Epicus album at the Roadburn festival in Holland. It was a very special day, filled with great music, incredible fans, and a band that had a lot of fun doing this! After 25 years original, Epicus singer Johan Längqvist is onstage with us to perform something that people say is one of the doom metal classics. And I think we did a pretty good job there at Roadburn. We played well, and the show was a total success! So here it is, CANDLEMASS live at the Roadburn festival…as it was, no overdubs…recorded on 32 channels…a fine slice of legendary doom released on big, fat, double-packed vinyl!" More...
