Metalunderground.com Official Podcast, Episode 18
The time is fast approaching for DevilDriver at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale on June 18th, and we at the Metalunderground.com Official Podcast are offering a free ticket giveaway to South Florida residents or anyone else able and willing to attend. Anyone interested should email podcast@metalunderground.com with the subject "DEVILDRIVER," and provide your name (matching your ID).
This week: vocalist Paul "Ablaze" Zinay (Blackguard) and bassist Xavier St Laurent (ex-Ion Dissonance) of Montreal, Quebec have formed a new group known as Ages. The two tracks so far released are titled "Heinous Nemesis" and "Resounding Negation," featuring members of Epica and HateSphere as guests. Co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) offers his opinion on the band's sound and potential appeal.
Next: Mike and co-host Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) react to two freshly released singles: "Chimes At Midnight" from Atlanta's Mastodon and "Cusp Of Eternity" from Sweden's Opeth. Both songs are taken from the eagerly anticipated upcoming albums "Once More 'Round The Sun" and "Pale Communion," respectively.
Finally, it would behoove us to sadly acknowledge the unsurprising but tragic announcement that the late Dave Brockie (aka Oderus Urungus) of GWAR did indeed succumb to a fatal heroin overdose.

Arkaik Announces Lineup Changes
Arkaik has issued the following announcement about lineup changes within the band:
"Fans and friends,
"A lot has gone on behind the scenes in the last year, we have faced some huge adversity as a band but are very stoked to finally announce the official permanent lineup! To bring things up to speed, within the last year, two of our long time members and guitar players have decided to head in different directions, one of which founded the band with vocalist Jared Christianson in 2006 (Chance Strickland) and another who helped take Arkaik to new heights and abilities in 2009 (Craig Peters) when first signing with Unique Leader Records.
"Craig and Chance are great friends of ours and are respectfully pursuing their own creative and personal interests and there are no hard feelings. Chance will still be working with Arkaik on certain collaborations but has stepped back from the position of rhythm guitar to focus his creative efforts on producing and performing electronic bass music with his now full time project Bastik Legion. Craig Peters will continue to rightfully hold it down on lead guitar for tech-death pioneers Deeds Of Flesh and is also focusing on his own solo music. We wish them all the best and are stoked for what they do with their talents in the future.
"Fortunately, things have come full circle since then and we are proud to announce the official joining of Miguel Esparza and Greg Paulson. Miguel started playing with Arkaik late last year and had previously been in bands with our drummer Alex Bent. He has shown incredible talent and drive since then and has filled the roll of lead guitar exceptionally well, we couldn’t be more stoked to have him on board. The same goes for Greg Paulson who joined the band earlier this year, and has also proved to be a tremendously talented player and performer. We could not be more excited to have the two of them tearing it up with us and what the future has in store for Arkaik’s most solid lineup ever. More...

"Crone's first sign of life will be the mini-album 'Gehenna,' which will be released later this year as a joint venture of Prophecy and Ván Records. It includes four songs, one of them featuring the voice of ex-Swans vocalist Jarboe."

"Containing every filthy, goddamned, d-beat-ridden anthem by Electric Funeral, the Total Funeral discography boasts over an hour-and-a-half of carnage with fifty-three tracks in total, including the Harvester Of Death, Make Noise Not War, D-Beat Noise Attack, The Face of War, Make A Change, Gröndalen, In League With Darkness and Order From Disorder releases, the split with Go Filth Go, and even several previously-unreleased and new/unreleased tracks.

Arch Enemy Posts Second Track-By-Track Video
Arch Enemy's new album "War Eternal" (reviewed here) will be unleashed next week on June 10th in North America.
For a preview of "War Eternal," check out part 2 of the track-by-track video with Michael Amott (guitar) and Alissa White-Gluz (vocals) below. Part 1 can also be seen at this location.
Arch Enemy is currently on the road in Europe, having already completed 10 shows with new front-woman, Alissa White-Gluz. At one of the first shows, Alissa broke her riser into pieces and consequently broke a rib in the fall.
She explained in an online posting: "Anyone at that show who saw me body slam through the fucking riser could imagine there would be some damage. But I'm a stubborn fuck and I waited a few shows before going to get x-rays, ultrasounds and blood tests. The damage to my head, arms and legs is just bad bruising, there is no apparent organ damage and no internal bleeding. Unfortunately, there is a compound break on one rib and severe bruising around several others. Good news is that the pieces of the rib are well aligned to heal back in place! The doctor forbade me to continue playing shows... But cancelling shows would hurt way worse." More...

Nyogthaeblisz Inks Deal With Hells Headbangers
Hells Headbangers has announced the signing of Texan cult Nyogthaeblisz and the label comments:
"One of the most talked-about and divisive black/death bands currently going in the metal underground, Nyogthaeblisz have patiently built a discography of incendiary short-length releases, each one bolder and more savage than its predecessor.
"Truly, there are few other sounds around as unique and illuminating as theirs - an endless vortex of chaos magick, in-the-red frequencies, ritualistic fervor and righteous fury - and Hells Headbangers, longtime supporters of the band, are excited to be working with a horde like Nyogthaeblisz on their next releases. The first fruit of this unholy union will be the power-trio's long-awaited debut album, Abrahamic Godhead Besieged by Adversarial Usurptation, which is currently being worked on and is tentatively slated for release later this year."
A statement from founding Nyogthaeblisz vocalist/guitarist X.S. reads: "The band came into existence in 2002 after I had been engaging in contact with a 'daemonic' entity via meditation. The band is currently composed of the original members, A.X. and myself, and we will be initiating a new member into our sect whose name will be revealed in the near future. Abrahamic Godhead Besieged by Adversarial Usurptation will include eight ceremonial daggers to the throat of the Tetragrammaton in the odious spirit of both Progenitors of Mankind's Annihilation [2003] and the split with Goatpenis [20012], except pushed further in terms of extremity."
Concluding, X.S. proclaims, "May the revolutionary fires of the Great Adversary ignite within the daemonic spirit of Man a seething revolt against the centuries of ‘divine’ ignominy, enslavement, and persecution; may it herald a merciless upheaval of all inferior societal foundations, initiate a violent dismantling of fallacious religio-political institutions, and inaugurate the absolute temporal/spiritual destruction of all earthly bodies subservient to the enslaver Godhead, YHWH! Lo, let the awakening Satanic Archetype in Man radiate furiously and disintegrate all utopian moral and ethical constructs; may its cruel rays cremate the detritus of all usurped ideals, failed doctrines, and obsolete metaphysical systems! Let it be here, upon the vanquished remnants of the pious, that in a single utterance the Satanic Archetype nullify the ‘holy’ ordering principle of the Tetragrammaton and exalt only the chaotic singularity of its own daemonic being: XEPER-I-SATAN!"

Sonic Syndicate Posts New Music Video
Anglo-Swedish modern metal powerhouse Sonic Syndicate has released an official music video for the second single, "Before You Finally Break," taken off the band's upcoming self-titled, fifth album. The album is set for release via Nuclear Blast Records on July 4th (EU), July 7th (UK) and July 8th (USA).
The clip was shot by director Patric Ullaeus and features Soilwork singer Björn "Speed" Strid on guest vocals. Check it out below, courtesy of Kerrang.com.
Commented singer Nathan James Biggs: "I'm honored to call Speed a friend. I've been a big Soilwork fan for years. Those guys were a massive hand in crafting that trademark Swedish sound so it made perfect sense to ask Speed when we knew we wanted to do a song with guest vocals. Performance wise I think we have similar styles and execution, but at the same time we both have our own thing going on so the voices compliment each other to great effect. My idea was also to have a real battle between our vocals. I hate it when you have these 'featuring' songs and the guest just pops up for a chorus and then does backing vocals for a while in the verse or something. This is a real fight between us for the mic and I'm sure people are gonna appreciate that."
Bjorn “Speed” Strid adds: “Working with Sonic Syndicate is always a pleasure, whether it's in the studio, tour, or in a cool looking abandoned car shop in the industrial area of Gothenburg. I loved recording vocals on this song and especially being able to do somewhat of a duet with Nathan Biggs. He's a truly talented singer and a good friend. Doing the video was easy, fun and pretty intense at the same time. It turned out real sick.. Check it out!” More...

Acid Bath Comments On Reunion Rumors
Sammy Duet of Acid Bath has issued the following statement after rumors began circulating of a band reunion:
"In response to the post by 'Acidbath The Bayou Kid' on June 3rd, 2014, I'd like to clarify a few things: [Drummer] Jimmy Kyle created that post without prior discussion with [guitarist] Mike Sanchez or myself [guitarist, Sammy Duet].
"Acid Bath is not looking for a vocalist. There is no Acid Bath without [late bassist] Audie Pitre, so there will never be 'new' Acid Bath material.
"Currently, most of the surviving members of Acid Bath -- Jimmy, Mike, and myself -- have been considering the possibility of doing some shows in the future, as an Acid Bath tribute band, but nothing has been set in stone, and it is still just an idea. Unfortunately, [vocalist] Dax Riggs declines to be a part of such a tribute. We respect Dax and his decision.
"If we decide to put together an Acid Bath tribute band, the vocalist will be carefully chosen, but it is way too early to discuss choosing a vocalist at this time.
"I'd like to thank the loyal, diehard Acid Bath fans for their years of support, not just while ACID BATH was together, but for supporting us in all of our individual music projects." More...

Svart Crown Announces Lineup Change
Three years after joining Svart Crown, drummer Nicolas "Ranko" Muller has departed the band. Ranko issued this statement:
"Dear friends, close ones and others, dear Svart Crown fans, I quietly announce to everyone of you that I leave the band. We're still friends, this decision is purely personal and natural to me.
"I'm thinking about it since a bunch of time. I want to be honest with one thing: I'm really proud to have been a part of this journey, I traveled around the whole world and met a lot of great people. Guys, I won't forget. I had the chance to be a part of it and I wish the best to the guy who will take my seat with those killer dudes, built for the stage and the road. I will stay active in music, don't worry for that, I just had to leave the 'big thing' because of positive changes in my life, that's why I'm just feeling good and I feel absolutely no regrets. I leave a great band, to make great things by myself, and everyone will continue the way we chose. I love everyone of you so much, I hope you will miss me a little, but be sure I stay near. Hail Satan, or something like that."
Vocalist/guitarist Jb Le Bail comments: "Time's passing and each one's priorities can change, but the band's entity stays the most important to me. Svart Crown is really demanding, in terms of personal investment, energy and time, and it's really different from the way of life that Ranko needs now. The band loses an outstanding musician and a roadmate, and we wish him the best for the future.
"But we'll be back stronger after a short break this summer, numerous plans are running for us. Everything will be announced ASAP, and nothing will stop us. Concerning the cancellations, the Underwall Festival (Croatia) did not obtain the authorizations to let the bands play after midnight so they cancelled our participation in the last days before the show. We regret to be forced to cancel our presence in Brescia too. Ranko will be with us for a last concert at the Altherax, NICE, on this saturday the 7th. And so long!" More...
Despite Exile Parts Ways With Drummer
Despite Exile has checked in with the following statement about parting ways with the band's drummer:
"We've been keeping this announcement for ourselves, now we feel like it's time to make this clear. Due to personal and work-related issues, Aleksandar 'Sasha' Veselinovic is no longer the drummer of Despite Exile.
"We made every effort to avoid this but unfortunately the circumstances have been against us. Sasha is first and foremost a close friend, and we wish him all possible luck.
"This has been a tough period for us, but we are still carrying on this project with all our dedication; so keep your eyes on this page cause we will soon post a playthrough-video to introduce you our new drummer." More...

Deadlock Finishes Work On New Album
The German metal outfit Deadlock has finished work on a new album, and label Lifeforce Records comments:
"With 'The Re-Arrival," Deadlock present their fans an impressive overview of their past work, which goes much further than the usual 'Best-Of' releases. Within the 30 tracks on 'The Re-Arrival' you’ll find some pretty rare and previously unreleased demo tracks from the very early days of the band’s history, complete re-arrangements of Deadlock classics and 3 brand new tracks with the new drummer and wunderkind Werner Riedl, which marks another step in the band’s evolution and which shows again, that guitarist Sebastian Reichl is a highly gifted songwriter if it comes down to hit potential of the tracks."
Sebastian Reichl comments: "The recordings for the new album have been a travel back in time for all of us and especially for me as the last remaining founding member of Deadlock. Browsing through old recording-tracks, sorting out and partly re-arranging was more than an emotional experience – keeping in mind I play more than half of my life in this band. Feelings such as pride usually don’t have all too much impact on what I’m doing, but exactly that feeling comes most close to what I felt. It was simply amazing to touch our old hits again and to pack them in a new up-to-date sound – thanks to the whole Deadlock family for the past years and the years to come!"
"The Re-Arrival" once again was produced simultaneously in different studios: aside the band’s own Slaughter’s Palace studio the band hit the Chemical Burn Studio in Bad Kösen again as well as for the first time the history-charged Chamäleon Recording Studios in Hamburg. More...

Mixing thrash with jazzier elements and everything in between, the band delivers music that’s energetic, diverse, and thoughtful in every sense of the word. “Our music tends to be very melodic and we put a big emphasis on the songwriting, as well as the individual riffs,” says guitarist Eric Morrison.
The band’s debut album, "Just the Tip," plays to its sense of humour, but also represents the beginning of a musical journey that’s not bound to stop or slow down any time soon. Writing about everything from overcoming adversity to partying hard, living in an ever-changing city and the state of today’s society as a whole, Expain has captured its true identity on record.
As Morrison explains, “We go through many different concepts on this album but I think throughout all of it there is an attempt to stay hopeful and make something positive out of difficult or unpleasant situations.” More...
