Protest the Hero has issued the following announcement about parting ways with drummer Moe Carlson:
"We know we have been silent for the past couple months while we record this beast, but we assure you it's almost done and is turning out extremely well. We plan on releasing our beloved 'pupdates' throughout the summer while we set up to release this new album so stay tuned for that.
"With all this incredible progress, however, we have some sad news. Our brother and friend Moe has decided to leave the band to go back to school in pursuit of some of his other passions. When our grueling studio schedule just wouldn't work with his grueling school schedule, we realized we would need to find a session player for the new album.
"With Moe's guidance and approval, we found us a nice match in Chris Adler! Having known Chris for a few years, and with he and Moe being drum-buddies, it seemed like a perfect fit. We are happy to say that Chris has already come and gone from Canada and has left us with some beautiful drum tracks. Can't wait for you all to hear it!"

"Since 2005 central Germany-based Circle of Silence has perpetuated their brand of rugged, classic but fresh traditional/power metal with a dark edge -- comparable to Iced Earth, Savatage, Brainstorm and Sanctuary -- their sound growing more potent and epic with each release. Following their 2006 debut album Your Own Story, followed by 2008’s The Supremacy Of Time and most recently The Blackened Halo released in 2011, The Rise Of Resistance boasts fifty minutes of the band’s most striking, solid metal yet. Once again the band sanctioned producer Vagelis Maranis (ex-Sanvoisen) in his Maranis Studios (Winter’s Verge, Saidian, Suicidal Angels) for the recording sessions, and brought in Vitaly Alexius/Scitart (Evile, Gainward) for the cover design. Circle of Silence’s uncompromising American style of power metal reigns supreme on The Rise Of Resistance." More...

You can also hear more from Sludge by checking out our look at the band last year in the "Unknown Side Project" edition of our Unearthing the Metal Underground column.
Sludge also comments on the new track: "Sometime ago we had that idea of recording a demo for a new album.
"So we decided to put 3.5 mics here and there in our rehearsal room, (the 0.5 mic being actually a kid’s toy/microphone... I mean it’s REALLY a toy, but it seems to work fine and that kid never complained so.. anyway...) we did that quickly, and by the end of the process, we found ourselves quite surprised by the result, I mean, in a positive way (if that can be said for that kind of music)
"So we thought it was good enough to release it as it was. We made no overdubs, no overproduction or such thing and we think that’s the way it should be for this time. So here it is, for you, as a starter, the Nasty, Heavy and Rotten to the core."

Russian act Montezuma's Revenge has posted the full "Key To The Abyss" album online for streaming, which can be heard through the YouTube player below. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"The album's eight-track story takes place between two apocalypses: the freezing cold in 'Sleeping Beauty' meets the burning sheltering mayhem in 'Dead Frost.' Black Ice Princess wakes from eternal slumber and brings cold death wherever she goes. Birds fall on earth, every drop of blood turns to stone, her name rings in the icy dead air and every meaning becomes her name.
"The world freezes over, but a drop of fresh blood brings cold colossus to life, the Golem, who breaks free from his sub zero mausoleum and sets every inch of the earth on fire. Between the two catastrophes, the two cold instruments in the merciless hands of mother nature, unfolds a story of a human microcosm. The story of the Key to the Abyss. The sacred knowledge of a sacrifice passed on from father to his daughter. It's the key to death and the future at the same.
"The girl finds out about 'The Key' from the cold depth of dead space, in which her father's body is buried and sacrifices her young heart to inhale her ancestor's wrath into the body of the cold Golem in his black mausoleum. The same 'Key' is found by the character of 'Anti-Entity,' which tells the story of a violent liberation of one's own spirit. Vicious craving of eternal absolute results in devouring of the person's own flesh. In cathartic enlightenment he takes a bite of his own meat and feels sanctified." More...

Berlin-based classic/psychedelic rockers Kadavar have just announced a split with bass player Mammut. The band comments: “After almost three years of band history, Mammut left the band due to musical and personal reasons. We believe that this decision was for the good of us all and wish him only the best for his future.”
Already during the past weeks, Mammut hasn’t been part of Kadavar’s extensive touring activities, but has been replaced by a stand-in musician who also happens to be an old friend of the band and is now officially introduced as the new Kadavar bassist – Simon Bouteloup.
The band states: “For us, Simon Bouteloup was the only replacement imaginable all along. We’ve toured with his ex-band AQUA NEBULA OSCILLATOR in the past and recorded a split record with them. Afterwards, he accompanied our tours on a regular basis. In autumn of 2012 he moved from Paris to Berlin and joined THE OATH. We’re happy to have him on board as a permanent member now!” More...
The day the thrash metal world had been waiting for came this past Thursday at the Beastival Open Air in Geiselwind, Germany when The Big Teutonic 4 - Kreator Sodom, Destruction, and Tankdard - performed in front of thousands of metalheads.
Now, all four bands share their memories and thoughts of this memorable night. A photo taken after the shows by artist Stefan 'Heile' Heilemann of Heilemania can also be found below.
Kreator's Mille Petrozza comments: "My personal highlight were the fans! We had real bad luck with the weather and during our gig there was not just heavy rain but also a real storm so that it would rain on stage all the time. Our fans once more proved to be the toughest and best in the world and partied with us till the end. Touching and impressive at the same time. Beastival was a KILLER festival overall!"
Sodom's Tom Angelripper states: "Beastival was a special event for Sodom. The Big Teutonic 4 sharing the same stage... this event will go down in history. Aside of that everything else was just classy as well. I've barely experienced a festival as well-organized as this. And a special thank you also goes out to all the metalheads that stuck with us despite the heavy rain and made this festival a memorable and great experience for all of us! We're hoping on a repetition!" More...
