The work of JRR Tolkien has long been a favorite muse of rock and metal artists. This year's Bloodstock bands Megadeth, Amon Amarth, and Dimmu Borgir all have used Tolkien references in their work, along with many others (Nightwish, Gorgoroth and even the likes of Led Zeppelin to name but a few).
Now Bloodstock’s co-founder, fantasy artist Paul Raymond Gregory, is thrilled to bring the two themes together and launch a major art exhibition at Bloodstock this year.
Christened the Rock and Metal (RAM) Gallery, the exhibition is to be a permanent addition to the festival and will provide a showcase for a changing selection of rock-related art and memorabilia. Paul Raymond Gregory’s extensive body of work includes many famous album sleeves and monolithic pieces inspired by the writings of JRR Tolkien. Paul’s first ever album cover commission was in 1984 for Saxon’s "Crusader," so launching the RAM Gallery on the 30th anniversary of Paul’s artistic debut in the metal world is fitting indeed.
This year’s first showing will include all the original Bloodstock festival artwork, going right back to the first indoor event in 2001, plus a wide range of Paul’s album art including the sleeve of Saxon’s latest release "Sacrifice." Representing Paul’s Tolkien work, there will also be a large triptych inspired by The Silmarillion opus (from whence Marillion derived its name). The painting will be mounted in a bespoke hand-carved frame created by framer John Davis. Although John has framed much of Paul’s other work, the triptych features the first frame actually designed by Paul himself. In addition, Paul will be signing copies of his book "Beyond Time And Place," which showcases artwork from the breadth of his career.
The exhibition will also include a small selection of bespoke handmade guitars created by young artist/musician Cynosure who is working to re-define the guitar, not just as a functional instrument, but as a working, playable piece of art.
The current Bloodstock Festival 2014 lineup is shaping up as follows: More...
Serbian black metal and Provocator today reveals an art video for the song "7 Storms of Eternal Damnation." The track hails from the band's forthcoming debut album, "Antikristus," set for release on August 19th via Moribund Records.
Provocator comes from the sick & twisted mind of Bleeding Fist founder Hellscream. The "Antikristus" track listing is as follows:
1. Let Jesus Fuck You (intro) [0:09]
2. Unholy Rape Of The Holy Whore [3:51]
3. 7 Storms of Eternal Damnation [4:47]
4. Conqueror Of Blasphemus Revenge [5:02]
5. Profanation of the Cross [3:50]
6. Kirkebrann [3:35]
7. Black Star of Lucifer [3:52]
8. Antikristus [3:24]
A statement from Hellscream reads: "The story started in 2012 when I started to put together all the old material that I never used for Bleeding Fist and was laying down in my closet for years, so I wrote the first EP, Darkness is Rising, which was released under the banner of Doomentia Records, strictly limited to 300 copies as a 7" vinyl. After that release, I was pretty much inspired in that old raw and morbid way of making music, so I decided to start putting together the full-length, which was written in a few days. After that, I booked the studio and recorded the whole album in a day. Provocator is simply a tribute to the old raw sound of the the first wave of black metal as Hellhammer, Blasphemy, VON, Bathory." More...

Powerman 5000 and Yahoo! Music have teamed up to launch the band's new music video for "How To Be A Human," taken from the recently released, "Builders Of The Future." Check it out below or at Yahoo! Music here.
"The video for 'How To Be A Human' is a departure for us," band leader, visionary and sole remaining original member, Spider One, told Yahoo!. "In the past, our videos have been big, over the top productions. This time, it was fun for us to show the band as a band. Just kind of rocking out!
"Although, conceptually it's not that simple. I look at this video as a propaganda film from another planet. An instructional video for how to be a human. It's a visual representation of how insane we would appear to be to an alien race."
You can stream the entire new album "Builders Of The Future" by heading over to this location.
"I never would have imagined that after all the albums, the band members, the ups-and-downs of the always changing music business, I'd still be here doing this, which is thanks to our most diehard fans," marvels Spider One, who founded Powerman 5000 with a 4-track and a drum machine.
"We've replanted our flag as the weird, sci-fi, electronic band. This is what we are. This is what we do best. This is clearly what people like from us the most, too. So I'm going to love it like they love it. We're back. The fan base has really rallied around us again. The enthusiasm feels like it's picked right up from the year 2000. The electronic-metal-dance thing, we've locked it down once and for all with this one." More...

Their debut split with Blue Waffle and 'A Trophy Of Corporate Disfigurement' single, both released in their first year as a band, followed by their The Beginning Of The End EP released last year have helped the band forge a devout fanbase of pit-seeking followers.
"Having already toured with various acts around Europe including Cerebral Bore and Warpath, and with upcoming shows booked alongside Thy Art Is Murder, Blood Red Throne and many more, Acrania will continue to devour their way through the scene and spread their message of unrelenting hostility through their blistering mix of brutality, slams and blastbeats. Mircea Gabriel Eftemie of Danish metal outfit Mnemic has checked in with the following announcement about the band breaking up:
"It's been over 6 months since the last update, and therefore I must humbly apologize. Being the last original and founding member of Mnemic, I feel that it’s my responsibility and finally time to break the silence and shed some light on the bands current situation and prospect. I am sure anyone who have been following our endeavors, listening to our music, or had some sort of a relation to Mnemic, have been wondering what’s in the melting pot?
"The main reason for this update, is because wherever I have gone, I’ve met people who have been asking me: 'When are you playing live again? When is a new album coming out? Whats happening with the band? Why so silent? No news?'
"Well, here is a bit of background… When we started the band, we where influenced by 3 great artists, Meshuggah, Fear Factory & Strapping Young Lad (plus everything else Devin touched). We had a common artistic vision for the sound and look and a common goal when composing. We where all able to communicate musically on the same level, as we all contributed with our personal signature to the greater vision. Luckily and fortunately we ended up releasing albums on a great and big label, touring 4-5 continents, and even ended up touring and making friends with the bands that influenced us and hey, even Metallica asked us out! Something most bands only dream of nowadays - call us extremely fucking lucky.
"Fact is, people and situations change, and going through multiple line-up changes, not being able to generate an income from music and struggling to survive, so did the vision change. More...

All it took was an invite to the Canadian cult festival, Wings Of Metal in Montreal, to get BAT back in flight. Since we were heading up to the Great White North we decided to bring along our brothers in nastiness, Chainbreaker. Our styles of primitive speed metal go hand-in-hand and we're all old friends so it will surely be a blast. These will also be the first shows for BAT in almost all of the cities from New York to Chicago so they must not be missed."
Chainbreaker's Al Positions added: "Greasy sewer sucking street metallers, Chainbreaker, are set to lose the confines of our homeland like a bad bowel accident and leak down all over the United States on a tour with our lewd comrades in perversion, BAT. We promise to disgust and stimulate all who are willing to bend over and get plowed by our smelly, slippery, sexual sound. Defiant of the trends, iconoclast to your weak moral code, Chainbreaker stands on guard to offend all norms and unsuspecting strays while fulfilling the true underground's every lethal desire."

Chicago's Ion Vein is streaming the new track "Alone" (check it out in the player below). The song will appear on the band's upcoming new self-titled release which is due out July 4 in Europe and July 8 in North America, via Mortal Music/MVD Audio in both CD and digital formats. The album was produced, engineered and mixed by Neil Kernon and mastered by Alan Douches.
On choosing this track as the second song to be released from the album, the band commented: "Alone has a great balance of heaviness and groove mixed in with the dynamics and melodic flavors we’ve always been known for. In fact, when we were mixing this track, Neil was the one who pointed out that Alone 'was the bridge' between the first two albums and the new one and we couldn’t agree more so take a walk across that bridge with us and crank it up!"

Swedish melodic metal act Zephyra signed on with Wormholedeath/Aural Music for the release of the debut full length album "Mental Absolution." The record was produced by Jonathan Mazzeo. No firm date for the album has been set as of yet, but expect to see it worldwide by year end. Zephyra was formed in 2011 and released two EPs: "First Blood" in 2012 and "Kämpaglöd" in 2013.
The band commented: "We are very thrilled to announce that we have signed a deal with the great label Worm Hole Death. The collaboration is strong, and started in the beginning of last year. At that time we began working on the pre productions of the songs for ’MENTAL ABSOLUTION’, our debut album. The opportunity to work with a label as eager and committed as we are, feels like a deal of a lifetime. MENTAL ABSOLUTION’ is recorded and produced at MathLab Recording studio, and mastered at The Grid, by Christian Donaldson (who currently is working on the new album for ’The Agonist’). For the graphics we´ve had the honor to work with the talented Sanver Studios. We´re glad to have all these professionals around us, and excited to see where this collaboration takes us!" More...
