Pit Stories: Crowned On Stage
Is it March already? Here we are with our 10th Pit Story of the year kicking off the start of the month!
This week we've got U.S. prog metal band Vangough on board for a tale of touring bands messing with each other on stage.
Clay Withrow recalls the following story of being unceremoniously crowned while still performing during the set:
While we were on our North American tour in support of Pain of Salvation in 2014, there was one particularly unique occurrence that I’m sure very few bands or even fans have experienced. Our very last show on the tour was booked in a performance arts theater, which was kind of different but also very cool. The stage was extremely deep to account for set changes and such, so it was by far the biggest stage we had played so far.
Anyways, as we’re tearing into the final chorus of our song “Separation,” I suddenly feel a hand on my shoulder and something being placed on my head. The guys from Pain of Salvation were trying to seat me in a king’s throne, while also placing a crown on my head. What made the whole exercise even more difficult was the fact that my explorer-style guitar just wasn’t playing nice with the chair they were trying to squeeze me into, so I’m sure witnessing this event was pretty awkward but also hilarious.
So thank you Daniel Gildenlow and Gustaf Hielm for a very memorable end to our already memorable tour! I’m so glad that wasn’t the night we had to record for our Kickstarter live CD. Though I did get them back when I dressed up in a pink rabbit suit and hopped out on stage during one of their songs.
Vangough's upcoming new album "Warpaint" is due out this coming March 17th, 2017 (read our full review here). Check out advance song "Morphine" in the player below.
Spending over a year in production, this album represents the delicate inculcation of restraint, self-doubt and introspection that was afforded as a result of recent touring efforts. More...

Foscor Reveals New Album Details
Named after the Catalan word for "darkness," Spanish atmospheric metal band Foscor has revealed new details today about forthcoming album - and Season of Mist debut - "Les Irreals Visions."
The album will be released worldwide on June 9th, with pore-orders for the album available across multiple CD and LP formats at the Season of Mist E-Shop.
Forscor is also streaming the first new track off "Les Irreals Visions" - check out the dark, progressive metal outing titled "Ciutat Tràgica" below (featuring guest vocals from Alan A. Nemtheanga of Primordial). Regarding the new track, Foscor comments:
"Our premiere song 'Ciutat Tràgica' translates as 'tragic city' and it was admittedly also our first choice for the new album's opening track and title. It perfectly describes the emotional dimension of the nature of our music.
"Reminiscent of the 80's monochrome landscapes that we all have in mind, 'Ciutat Tràgica' offers the same intensity and vitality, which has always characterized us and that people hopefully find thoughout this whole album. To work only with clean vocals and adding Catalan lyrics clearly mark a changing point for us. Last but not least, having Irish gentleman Alan A. Nemtheanga from Primordial performing vocals on this song makes it an even more special moment." More...

"We filmed the video at Parr St. Studios in the very room we recorded the album. We love partying in Liverpool and Parr St. is the largest recording studio in the UK outside of the capital. (Just before we shot this video Justin Bieber was in the same studio recording something...)" More...
Avatarium Unveils New Album Artwork
Sweden's doom darlings from Avatarium are back with their third studio album "Hurricanes And Halos," due to take the world by storm on May 26th, 2017 via Nuclear Blast.
Today, the band unveils the album's cover, created by Erik Rovanpera (who previously designed the cover art for Avatarium's debut album) and showing a mystical creature inspired by the epic track "Medusa Child."
"To be asked to do the artwork for the new Avatarium album was an honor," states artist Erik Rovanpera. "And without knowing the lyrics to the title song 'Hurricanes and Halos' this is my interpretation of the title. Inspired by art nouveau, comic books and many other things in the current art movement this is my take on the good, the bad, the beauty and the beast. Insect Named After Tuomas Holopainen
Conservation biologist Jukka Salmela of Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife Finland recently discovered a new insect species in his home country, and while remembering Tuomas Holopainen's love for nature, he decided to name it "Sciophila holopaineni" after Nightwish's keyboardist and songwriter.
After the release of the band's latest album "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" in 2015 (featuring a guest spot by biologist Richard Dawkins), Holopainen has been known as person being highly interested in evolution and the diversity of nature.
"I am very, very touched. This is the highest honour a nature nerd like me can receive,” Tuomas Holopainen commented after being contacted by Salmela, who asked for permission to name the insect after him. So far, this particular fungus gnat has only been spotted in eastern Lapland, Finland, and lives in shadowy environments.
After releasing the double-DVD "Vehicle Of Spirit," Nightwish is currently taking a year off to find inspiration and write new songs - stay tuned for new material in 2018! More...

Hate Posts New Song "Asuric Being"

"A truly great concept that has become a big source of inspiration to me. As for the music, you may notice how much we have refined the formula since 'Crusade.' 'Tremendum' is a profound, organic and adventurous album. We are really proud of it!"
