Last Leaf Down Posts "Ghost Trails" Video

Last Leaf Down has a new single titled "Ghost Trails" out now - check it out via the music video below. "Ghost Trails" is taken off the band's forthcoming second album "Bright Wide Colder," set to be released on March 31st via Lifeforce Records.

Lifeforce comments on the album's title and sound: "This title reveals a meaning behind the plain words, without explaining too much in advance. The music is no different. Quickly, listeners have an inkling of the intentions of the musicians from Switzerland.

"However, you cannot quickly feel and process all shades and subtleties. Last Leaf Down's songwriting has to be characterized as harmonically, valuably and introverted. The second full length of the quartet spots existential emotions. 'Bright Wide Colder' goes even further than the debut album from 2014, 'Fake Lights.'" More...

Ninjaspy Releasing New Album

The trio of blood brothers from Ninjaspy will release next full-length album "Spüken" on April 14th, 2017.

Years in the making since the spring 2014 release of "Jump Ya Bones," the band was able to raise $15,000 to fund this new album. Recording began in November of 2014, narrowing down years worth of songs to an epic 10 track experience demonstrating downbeats to breakdowns and a weaving of reggae, hardcore, and metal.

Vocalist / guitarist Joel Parent comments: "These 10 songs span a decade, so there are a lot of different feels happening from song to song that represent what we got into over the years. It's like we spent 10 years swallowing everything life threw at us, then we threw it all back up again, and are now able to listen to the blended, half-digested version of it." More...

Hyborian Releases New Video

Kansas City group Hyborian burst into the world of heavy metal last month with the release of the groovy, retro stoner metal-esque singles "Maelstrom" and "Dead Lies Dreaming," cut from upcoming debut album "Hyborian: Volume I," which is hitting stores on March 17th, 2017 via The Company.

Wasting no time in keeping new fans stocked with tasty jams, Hyborian is today revealing a brand new music video for new track "As Above, So Below," This video is the first to be released from "Hyborian: Volume I" and was directed by Alec Nicholas.

The title and chorus of "As Above, So Below" reference a quote from the fundamental Hermetic-movement text, The Emerald Tablet, as dissected by famed English occultist, magician, poet and novelist Aleister Crowley.

Frontman and guitarist Martin Bush says, "The song is about how time is cyclical and nothing really matters in the big scheme of things. The title/hook is a Crowley quote, and we feel like it's a pretty good intro to the band, our concept, and our sound. This track hits hard, and as the first track, sets up the stories we tell throughout the rest of the record." More...

Haken Posts "1985" Playthrough

Haken recently returned from a triumphant appearance on Cruise To The Edge and now has sights set on a 10th anniversary European tour, which starts later this month. In advance of that, the band just launched a special playthrough video with guitarist Charlie Griffiths.

Charlie had this to say: "For me, the perfect format for an instructional guitar video is VHS. Loading one of those Don Mock, Frank Gambale or Yngwie Malmsteen tapes into the machine was such a magical moment - as it was often the only way you could actually see how those seemingly impossible licks were done! I watched, rewound and re-watched those videos hundreds of times until the tapes were worn out.

"There's something about that tactile experience that I really miss, so for this play-through of '1985' from our album 'Affinity' it seemed like the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to those days when everything was in lower resolution, yet somehow seemed more palpable." More...

The Grandfather Releases New EP

Complex metal/hardcore unit The Grandfather has announced the release of three interlocking EP’s for this year. The first of which, "Absent," is out today can can be streamed below.

Concept-wise each EP is a different chapter that follows the journey of one man to find himself. Cory Lanza (bass) says: “'Absent' is definitely the heaviest and darkest of the three EP’s. It reflects the mental state that everyone in this band has been in at some point, lost in their own head and dealing with depression, anxiety and self-negativity. We titled each of the songs on this EP after a serial killer but not in the sense of shock value or to glorify them but rather trying to guess what was going on in the mind of someone that dark.”

The Grandfather is made up of Lanza, Jonluc Lowdermilk (guitarist), Josh Smith (guitarist), Dillon Schiel (vocals) and Nick Huff (drums) and the group has played shows regionally with the likes of Tides Of Man, Levi The Poet, The Ongoing Concept and A War Within. The new EP's track listing is as follows:

1. Absent 03:47
2. Koresh 03:10
3. Chikatilo 01:28

Apocalypse Orchestra Premieres New Song

Swedish medieval metal act Apocalypse Orchestra teamed up with MetalUnderground.com for the premiere of the new song "The Garden of Earthly Delights." The track is the first full song the band has released and it will appear on the upcoming debut full length album "The End is Nigh," which is set to drop via Despotz Records on May 12th.

Standing with one leg in medieval times and the other in modern metal, Apocalypse Orchestra weaves a own special tapestry of music. The tones of the hurdy gurdy and the bagpipe entwines the heavy guitars and music separated by over 800 years meet.

The band was formed by musical partners in crime Mikael and Erik based in Gävle, Sweden. Inspired by a love for both folk music and slow metal, the duo decided to combine the two. With a foundation of original music and lyrics but also incorporating melodies from as far back as the 11th century, the goal was to create a musical homage to a era long since gone.

The songs on the debut release tell of flagellants, plague doctors, tales of hell, the meaninglessness of war and of suffering; they are all chapters in the band's grimoire. To balance it out, Apocalypse Orchestra also shines a light on medieval art, science and enlightenment.

When several songs had been composed, the band was completed with the addition of Jonas, Rikard and Andreas. The Orchestra has since played live on many occasions and has been seen at both clubs and festivals, as well as gigs with the Gävle Symphonic Orchestra.

Don't be fooled though, Apocalypse Orchestra looks forward as well as inward. The band seeks answers to some of history’s big questions: How did people find meaning and momentum? How did they find joy in life when two out of three died from the black death? Was there happiness under the heavy yokes of faith, and what was the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

The track listing for "The End is Nigh" is:

1. The Garden of Earthly Delights
2. Pyre
3. Flagellants' Song
4. Exhale
5. Theatre of War
6. The Great Mortality
7. To Embark
8. Here Be Monsters More...
