The patron saints of altered states known as John Frum welcome in the golden age of musical enlightenment with "A Stirring In The Noos." Nearly 6 years in the making, John Frum's unorthodox debut maneuvers through 40 minutes of darkly psychedelic and meticulously crafted death metal, acting as a medium for malefic musings, the backdrop of a bad trip.
The mysterious John Frum is the manifestation of four musical minds coalescing in a collective consciousness developed from time spent playing with The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Faceless, John Zorn, Cleric and many more elite projects. This collective statement was issued about the band name:
"The band John Frum borrows its alias from the Cargo Cults of the South Pacific. Similar to American soldiers receiving air-dropped supplies during WWII, these Cargo Cults believed certain behaviors and rituals would bring riches and 'cargo' down from the heavens. Some believed the elaborate flag rituals of the troops working the airfields would bring the arrival of more planes, when in fact the soldiers were just helping the pilots land. More...
For 27 years, My Dying Bride from West Yorkshire have been the voice of the hopeless and broken, combining haunting sounds with crushing misery and melancholy. With a signature sound, the group has shaped the doom metal scene like barely any other act and integrated both soft violin melodies and violent death metal growls into the music.
Ssince the early Nineties, band masterminds and founding members Andrew Craighan and Aaron Stainthorpe have forged beautiful grief into twelve studio albums with songs of epic length. However for their 13th release, they are now bound for new horizons and proudly announce signing to Nuclear Blast Records.
Singer and lyricist Aaron Stainthorpe comments: "It is with great pleasure that My Dying Bride can announces joining forces with the formidable Nuclear Blast Records in early 2017 and has already begun working on material for the next LP and singles. It is no secret that Nuclear Blast continued to expand greatly over the years, signing epic bands from all corners of the world and giving them the chance they deserve to make something of themselves in the ever expanding metal scene. And it’s time that My Dying Bride came along for the ride. We are hoping that this wedding between a very solid label and a well-established act will bear fruit of mighty proportions in the exciting years to come!" More...

Where would heavy music be without singular visions and the lure of the willfully perverse? Formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2010, Ides Of Gemini has built a formidable and enigmatic reputation by stoutly refusing to conform to anyone else's idea of what lurks in the shadows.
"We get lumped in with a lot of metal bands, I guess for obvious reasons," says guitarist and songwriter Jason Bennett. "There are some metal songs on the new album, but it's really not a metal record. And we're not exactly a goth band, either. So I don't know what to call what we do. Is it heavy? Yes. Is it metal? Not exactly. I guess you could say it's a mystery..."
Produced by the inimitable Sanford Parker, new album "Women" also features guest appearances from Tara Connelly of Clay Rendering (on "Queen Of New Orleans") and bewitching singer-songwriter Emma Ruth Rundle (on "She Has A Secret"). A
"Why 'Women?' The short answer is that all the songs are about women!" Bennett laughs. "The way we work is that I title all the songs and Sera writes all the lyrics, and I give her an idea of what inspired each title for me. She can either take my idea and use it or totally discard it and come up with her own concept for it. Some of these women are mythological figures, some are historical figures, some are obscure actresses, and some are people we just made up. But every song is about a woman, so the title seemed obvious." More...
Hardcore/metal band To The Wind today debuts a brand new music video for the song “Can’t Stay (My Love).” Watch the official video clip now in the player below. Tanner Murphy (vocals) had this to say:
“We could've made videos for every song because they all have significant meaning and we love them all. But, we chose this one in particular because the lyrics express feelings about touring year after year consistently. In the beginning touring is all I wanted to do because i felt that it was all I had. I thought it was the only thing that made me happy. In the last couple years something slightly changed.
"As I grew I started having regrets in my personal life. I feel there is a lot I've missed out on because of the constant traveling, but at the same time I feel very accomplished because of all the things I've had the chance to do and see. I wrote most of this song while we were in Toronto recording the record. A lot of my raw emotions were invested into the song. I was very vulnerable and didn't have much time to filter anything out. This song to me is kind of my anthem to all different aspects of my life both on and off the road.”
“Can’t Stay (My Love)” is featured on To The Wind’s latest album, "The Brighter View," which is available now from Pure Noise Records. More...
Acclaimed Icelandic group Solstafir is now streaming the first new track off forthcoming album, "Berdreyminn." The dramatic, soaring "Ísafold" can be heard below. Front man and guitarist Aðalbjörn Tryggvason comments:
"Our first premiere song 'Ísafold' came very spontaneously to light. It felt like the spirit of Thin Lizzy paid us a visit that day. Adding a classic Phil Rudd beat to it seemed the only right thing to do. This is not the most typical Solstafir track but in some odd way it could be taken to represent this album. Although we are not re-inventing the wheel and you will find many references to 'classics' as tributes, I find it quite different from anything that we have done before. That is the way I like it and to me 'Ísafold' is already an all-time favorite among all our tracks."
"Berdreyminn" (which translates to a "dreamer of forthcoming events") will be released worldwide on May 26th. The new full-length was produced by Birgir Birgirsson and Jaime Gomez-Arellano. Album artwork was painted by Adam Burke, while the full track listing will be as follows:
5. Hvít Sæng
8. Bláfjall More...
Snovonne is known for her melancholic and psychoanalytic creations, which often reveal things one would rather not see. The new album "The Child And The Bitch" is exactly that and so much more.
"The concept carries a strong psychoanalytic undertone,” Snovonne says. “It's about perception, points of view. It's the battle between two voices - how you were born vs. what the world turns you into. There's no right or wrong, both the entities have values to stand on, but that doesn't stop them from clashing... I wanted to give room to both voices.”
The album will be introduced with the super-melancholic “Best Days." Coming out March 17th, the video will present a concept of duality, musically and visually. Following that video, the full album is due to arrive April 17th, 2017.
Sno continues: "I’ve always been fascinated by old medical journals and books… Grew up around it, family of doctors… So given the self-analytical tone of the record, it was only natural to make the artwork an old medical journal. The lyrics are my entries with dates when they were written, some of them I wrote when I was very young. As a parallel, I put in old articles from the 20’s, which I scanned from the original personal scrapbook of Dr. Frederick Finch Strong. He was a renowned persona of the last century - promoter of electrotherapy, cutting-edge in developing methods of treatment, and highly esoteric and eccentric. He was the first American to employ Tesla Coils therapeutically." More...

New York group Pirosaint has split with singer Billy Vanders during the vocal recordings for an upcoming new album. The band commented:
“Unfortunately, after two years of work we were getting nowhere with him. We wish him the best on his future endeavors. He is a great guy, we hope for the best on his future.
"We know that it has been a long time. The music for this record it has been recorded already for quite some time already and we are not sure why we haven’t found the right guy, with the right attitude for the music that we do. We are only looking to do what we like to do… so, we will continue to push forward. Pirosaint will continue looking for the right fit for the band, for now that is all what we can do.”
Drummer Ignacio Orellana further commented: “After two years of back and forth we decided to let him go. For quite some time he wanted to bring a hardcore vibe that we never wanted for this band; in the end we are a death / thrash metal band. He was singing for the wrong music style so, after all this time he became a wrong fit for the our band." More...

Next week (March 10th), Evocation will celebrate a return to death metal with new full-length album "The Shadow Archetype." For a preview of the album, a new video for the track "Condemned To The Grave" can be viewed below.
Evocation's Marko Palmen (guitar) comments: "The video for 'Condemned To The Grave' was shot with Greenworks Television on the 4th of February at a deserted house in the small village of Golingstorp, Sweden. The deserted house was actually something that we found through a friend who specialized in photographing deserted buildings.
"According to villagers the house has been deserted for at least 30 years. It's a beautiful house and the ageing has perhaps added even more character to the house. The day of the video shoot was freezing... But it added a special eerie feeling since there is a small layer of snow in the landscape, and on many of the shots with the actors you can see their breaths in the air. The end result became quite spectacular (not for the weak hearted I might add...), and we all hope you enjoy the video for 'Condemned To The Grave!'
"Huge thanks to Greenworks Television and all involved in the making of the video for 'Condemned To The Grave'; Rene U Valdes (Director), Johan Falklind (Camera), Ida Johansson (Actor), Anders Olsson (Actor), Gustaf Jorde (Screenplay & Actor), Thomas Josefsson (Actor), Simon Exner (Actor), Marko Palmen (Actor), Farideh Javanbakht (Make-Up) & Maria Bexdal (Make-Up)!" California symphonic metal band Graveshadow - winner of the 2016 "Sammie" (Sacramento Area Music Awards) for best Metal band – is the latest signing to M-Theory Audio. Since forming at the end of 2012, Graveshadow has created a sound defined by crushing guitars, beautiful keyboard melodies, thundering bass, and earth-shattering drums. The powerful operatic vocals shift into unearthly growls to create a rich and dynamic atmosphere that is ripe for storytelling.
Releasing an EP in 2014, and a full-length, "Nocturnal Resurrection," the following year Graveshadow has toured and played shows with Marty Friedman, Flotsam and Jetsam, Unleash the Archers, Apocalyptica, Children of Bodom, Death Angel, Skinlab, Doyle, Wednesday 13 and John 5.
Graveshadow intends to release a new full-length album by the end of the year, but until recording this summer the band will continue performing live.
"We are extremely excited to be working with Marco and M-Theory. With his status in the industry, belief in this band, and the growing family under the label, we could not think of a better home for our release this year,” states singer Heather Michele. “We are ready to unleash this monster for you all to enjoy, more details soon to come!" French black metal crew VI, featuring current and ex-members of Aosoth and Antaeus, is now streaming a song from the band's impending EP re-release. "De Praestigiis Daemonum" will arrive on March 31st via Agonia Records, and the EP has been remastered by M. (Mgla) in No Solace Studio.
Listen to the opening track "Et maintenant je lui appartiens ainsi ma chair mon sang et mes actes lui sont dédiés" below. Guitairst / vocalist Invri comments on the upcoming re-release:
"This first offering always meant a lot to us. This is where it all started. We keep listening to it wondering how we managed to release such a beast. 10 years later, we still dont get it. All went so fast, from the composing to the unexpected acclamation. It took years to compose something else, it was so intense and natural that we feared we could never do better. Re-releasing this EP is the opportunity for all of you to put your hands on it, and it was a good opportunity for us to refresh that old demon we cherish so much.
"Working with Adrian Baxter, Kontamination Design and No Solace was such an experience. One more time with this release, everything went fast. All this worldwide team managed to provide a brand new face in only few days and we feel honored to see how much efforts have been put into this release while, few years ago, only a bunch of maniacs believed in us.
"We would like to thanks the Agonia team, for being a part of those. This release will now never die and will rise, and will shine upon us for the next decade and more to come. Ceux qui moururent dans la douleur ne se relèveront pas dans la joie." More...
Godhunter has completed a new EP titled "Codex Narco," featuring a cast of fellow musicians hailing from the likes of Chrch, Demon Lung, Mountaineer, Thorne, Methra, and others. The EP will see release in May, with the proceeds from each format going to several important charities.
In September of 2015, after finishing a successful U.S. tour with Destroyer Of Light, several members of Godhunter amicably split with the band, simply moving on with more family commitments and unable to commit to regular touring.
Within weeks of the lineup shift, the rest of the band began writing new material together through internet conversations and individual recording sessions, as remaining guitarist/vocalist David Rodgers, drummer Andy Kratzenberg, and keyboardist Matthew Davis, currently reside on opposite ends of the country, spread across Washington, Arizona, and Georgia.
Shortly into the creation process, it was realized that the band was deviating from the usual lyrical content on our deteriorating world and current events, and for the first time was instead focusing towards inner darkness. Everyone in the band has experienced some dramatic personal trauma in recent years, a factor which is intensely reflected in the writing of "Codex Narco," where dependency, depression, and loss are the driving factors, resulting in the most personal and deeply introspective material the band has ever made.
After fleshing out the main skeleton of the new material, the remaining members of Godhunter secured additional elements from several of the band's closer personal and musical friends. Several of the contributors recorded a large amount of "Codex Narco" at Homewrecker Studios in Tucson, with the additional material recorded by each musician at their hometown studio of choice. Hailing from southern Canada, Cancelled is the experimental recording project of Marc Bourgon (Fuck The Facts / Greber). Spawned as a way to pass time during long tour drives, this project has cultivated itself into a meaningful creative outlet.
“For the past 10 years of my life I have been constantly writing music,” explains Bourgon. “Whether it be jotting down ideas on a notepad, droning out in our practice space or fleshing out ideas on a laptop it’s something that I have a hard time not doing on a daily basis.”
Those ideas are about to come to life with three song EP "Tenebrific," and today we're exclusively premiering all three tracks ahead of the March 3rd, 2017 release date. Check out this eclectic release below, and be sure to let us know what you think of this new musical endeavor!
This time around Bourgon asked Kurt Ballou of Godity studios to handle the mix and Ryan Butler of Arcane Digital to master it. The combination gave the songs the aggressive stain Bourgon wanted them to have. “Working with those two was great. I’ve always wanted to work with Kurt (Ballou) and Butler (Ryan) can do no wrong as far as I’m concerned.”
While strictly a studio project for the time being, Cancelled has plans to eventually move itself into the live setting. “It’s something that I have been tooling around with for awhile. Not having a drummer makes things tough to do live. I would want things to sound huge so it might be a minute until I can pull something live off.”
