Overkill, Kreator Kill Worcester With Aggression
As if the ante of seeing Testament, Overkill and Flotsam & Jetsam needed to be raised, the thought of seeing Kreator, Overkill and Warbringer was much too tempting an offer. I was fortunate enough to see Overkill on that fateful day – February 16, 2013 – the last show that Blitz would sing on the tour due to contracting pneumonia – which forced him into the hospital in Buffalo the next day and forced the band off the tour. Looking back on that day, I thought despite the illness, Blitz sounded great – however, he did leave the stage nearly every time he stopped singing. Chuck Billy of Testament, who was also sick, sounded pretty awful, but he was a trooper and put on a great show regardless. Flash forward to November 1st and The Palladium in Worcester would be witness to what I can only describe as the “Tour of North American Aggression.” More...
Sunn O))) Announces Collaboration With Ulver
Sunn O)))'s most recent studio album, 2009's "Monoliths and Dimensions," and Ulver's 2013 album, "Messe I.X-VI.X," found both outfits evolving and venturing into the world of acoustic arrangement and contemporary orchestration.
Besides arriving at this seeming parallel in vision, the pair's long standing camaraderie was initiated during Sunn O)))'s "White1" sessions in 2003 with the track "CutWOODED," which was produced by Ulver, in tribute to deceased film director Ed Wood.
At long last the two bands have come together for a more developed collaborative work. The result of this union is a three-track recording entitled "Terrestrials."
Southern Lord will release "Terrestrials" in February 2014. Further details will be announced over the next month.

It's about living in a city full of people who don't realize that they are dead, but in fact they have been dead for a long time. The strange thing is that the deader you are, the more alive you appear."
The band's eight track album was recorded at Bricktop Recording, engineered by Andy Nelson of Weekend Nachos, and mastered by Carl Saff (Unsane, Red Fang, Earthless). The track listing is as follows:

Gjutjärn To Release EP, Working On Album
Sliptrick Records has issued the following announcement about releasing an EP and upcoming album from Gjutjärn:
"Meet Sweden’s best kept rock/metal secret, Gjutjärn! The word Gjutjärn, can be roughly translated from Swedish as ‘Cast Iron,' and that’s exactly how Gjutjärn [from the Stockholm area] sounds.
"The band uses intense Swedish sung lyrics heavily influenced by the Norse/Scandinavian mythology and the Scandinavian culture in the Medieval times, blended with pounding heavy/metallic Swedish bad ass rock, produced by Jocke Skog of Clawfinger/Feared fame.
"Gjutjärn's debut release will see the light on November the 28th, through the form of a digital EP (to be followed by the physical release shortly after) featuring three tracks of pure, undiluted, steamrolling yet melodic heavy music and the folk-ish heartbreaking ballad ‘Ån.’
"Gjutjärn are currently working on their upcoming album (produced by Mr. Skog as the EP) and their upcoming video whose shooting will take place in the Marsta area in late November."

Bastard Feast Finishes Work On New Album

The band's second album will be released through Season of Mist's Underground Activist Division in 2014. Bastard Feast's forthcoming full-length was recorded, mixed and mastered by Stephan Hawkes (Exotic Animal Petting Zoo, Red Fang) at Interlace Audio in Portland, Oregon.
Regarding the album, guitarist Taylor Robinson said, "The new record is a change in the path for us. We have dialed in our sound even more and sold our souls to hell to channel more darkness. The album is lyrically bleak and filled with contempt. Adding a 2nd guitar and finding our new bass player Jesse has completed our brotherhood for this band. We feel that everyone who will hear this music will be drawn in...its truly hateful and inspired."

Fun Fun Fun Fest 2013 Day Three Slayer Sunday
Slayer played Fun Fun Fun Fest on Sunday two years ago. The promoters of the fest, Transmission Events, must see the value in making Sunday its metal day. As was experienced on Sunday two years ago, we left the park Sunday night with the metallic taste of Slayer in our mouths. My hunt for steel started at 12:30 when 4arm (read xFiruath’s interview) took the stage. I had no problem making this early show since I skipped the Nites shows on Saturday. Unfortunately for the Aussie modern thrash group, most of the fest’s attendees found 12:30 too early in the day. The 20 or so people who did make the early show were treated to one of the best performances of the weekend. More...

"This is probably the most unusual song I ever wrote, I sometimes think it's even best song I ever composed. We decided to film video clip for it, as it's different than everything Crystal Viper did in the past. So while people expect straight heavy metal from us, and as we of course deliver such tracks on the new album, this song shows we didn't say last word as a band yet" says vocalist and guitarist Marta Gabriel. "While working on this video clip, we wanted to achieve similar atmosphere to this one from "Paranormal Activity" movies, or from the "Fourth Kind" with Milla Jovovich, and basically reveal something from the story told on the album. We filmed this clip in Germany with guys from the 3D Maximal company, I think they did a great job and the final result is really cool!" she adds.

Sabaton Taps Evergrey Drummer Hannes Van Dahl
Sweden's Sabaton has named Hannes Van Dahl (Evergrey) the new permanent drummer of the band. After nearly a year of speculation as to whether Robban Back - who came into the band when four then members of the band split - would return after the birth of his child or that replacement Snowy Shaw (ex-Therion/ex-King Diamond) would become permanent.
In addition, Sabaton announced that the band will hit the studio soon to record the follow up to the highly successful "Carolus Rex" LP (see review here). The full announcement reads:
"For some time there has been rumors about Robban coming back soon, or that Snowy would fill in for a while longer, or even take Robbans place permanently behind the drums.
"To put an end to these rumors we now present our new full time member in Sabaton: Hannes Van Dahl.
"Hannes has previously played in Evergrey which we have toured with in the past, and he has also worked side by side with us as drum technician for Snowy during his time in Sabaton.
"He did his first show as a Sabaton member at this weekends show at Metal Hammer Paradise festival in Germany.
"We would of course like to thank Robban and Snowy for their great time in Sabaton, and we will continue to support them in everything they will do in the future!
"In just a few weeks we will start recording a new album and more details will be presented very soon!
The topic for the new album is set and we are very excited, it´s totally SABATON."
The band will support Iced Earth along with ReVamp on an upcoming North American Tour scheduled in April. For more information, head on over to this location. More...
