Tuomas Holopainen – the keyboardist and main songwriter of Nightwish - has spent most of the year writing and producing his solo album. The whole album will be based on a graphic novel called "The Life And Times Of Scrooge McDuck," written and illustrated by Don Rosa.
Tuomas Holopainen comments: “This is my longtime dream come true, 14 years in the making. And a homage to one of the best storytellers of our time. Thank you for sharing this celebration of Life & Adventure!”
Nuclear Blast also issued the following press release:
"This 12 - chapter book tells the life story of a certain Scrooge, from his early years in the 19th century Scotland to his adventures all around the world until the 1950's. The story contains such immense depth, detail, wit and emotional power, that the moment Tuomas read it nearly 20 years ago, it instantly became a story of profound personal interest and love for him. The initial spark of 'coloring' this story with music, i.e. create a kind of 'soundtrack' for the book, came to him already in 1999, and has ever since been haunting the back of his mind.
"The album was written and produced by Tuomas Holopainen and will contain 10 songs, with total duration of approximately 60 minutes. The music will be of soundtrack / classical / folk genre in the vein of Vaughan Williams, Michael Nyman, James Newton Howard and Enya. More...

Lacuna Coil is set to grace the main stage on Saturday and fiery front woman Cristina Scabbia comments, “To be back at Bloodstock will be such a BLAST! I can't wait to see my family of Coilers in the UK again and to meet new friends. I promise pure damn adrenaline from our stage!! See ya there!"
Co-vocalist, Andrea Ferro enthuses, “The UK is one of my favourite places to perform, it's really special. The audiences are so enthusiastic, their approach to rock music just feels similar to my own somehow and that's why I'm really excited to be part of Bloodstock Open Air 2014! It will be Lacuna Coil's second time there and I'm curious to see how the festival has grown. We will have songs from the new album and some LC classics, so see ya all in the summer!”
Slipping into Saturday’s special guest slot will be Carcass. Bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker warns, “Unfinished business… Carcass will return to Bloodstock 2014. With new blood, new album, new songs, we'll be firing on all cylinders. If you think you've already seen this band, think again. We'll see you come what may in the mud and the rain, there to knock the air out of your inflatable swords and knock the wind out of your sails. Let there be rot!”

Architects has posted the following message online about dropping off the band's current tour with Protest The Hero and Affiance:
"There's no easy way to say this but we have decided to pull out of the remaining Protest the Hero shows in the US. In the interests of honesty, avoiding ambiguity and the standard 'personal reasons' line, we want to explain our reasons clearly.
"A big factor in this was beginning this tour immediately after an extremely intense period recording our new album, which had already left us burnt out and mentally / physically exhausted. Simply said - we have nothing left in us after the extremely long year we have had thus far. We have hit a brick wall and desperately need a break to be home, get healthy and clear our minds for the remainder of the year.
"We haven't taken this decision lightly. We make it carrying a great deal of guilt for letting down the bands we're on tour with and the fans that have bought tickets, and to them we are sorry. This is the first time in 8 years of touring that we've ever had to do anything like this and it makes us feel extremely uncomfortable. This is also a not a financially motivated decision, exiting this tour means we lose out on a good amount of money, but somethings are more important. Protest is of course going on with the tour and they will announce our replacement soon.
"Again - we are deeply sorry to everyone we have let down. We will be back next year, revitalized and with a brand new album."
