Kataklysm Discusses New Full-Length Album

Three year's after the blistering "Heaven's Venom," Canadian outfit Kataklysm is now releasing latest full-length album "Waiting For The End To Come."

This release sees changes in how Kataklsym operates, as the band chose not to stream the album in full ahead of its release and went with two different versions for the cover artwork.

I recently got in touch with guitarist Jean-François Dagenais to hear what he had to say about these changes and how the album came together.

Read on to find out about J-F's love for old school physical media (“there’s something spiritual about putting that vinyl on and having a drink while hearing an album”), the difficulties in switching gears from Kataklysm to Ex Deo, and how the band approached a Sacred Reich cover for the album. Storm King Announces New Album Release

"Everything That's Meaningful in Your Life Will Be Destroyed," the brand new full-length album from Pittsburgh's progressive death/thrash overlords Storm King, will be released digitally and on CD this coming November 12th via Innervenus Music. The following press release was issued about the album:

"The new album features eight punishing tracks full of misery and pain; primarily drawing on death and thrashcore influences, while occasionally lapsing into extreme sludge metal territory.

"Six are brand new songs, with the addition of a newly recorded version of 'Backfill,' which was previously released on the Innervenus compilation Iron Atrocity V.1 and has since become a staple of the band's live show; as well as a cover of Faith No More's 'Surprise! You're Dead,' which remains fairly faithful to the spirit of the original, and yet by doing so, the band manages to make it their own, as the song feels much more at home among this collection than it ever did within the original recording artist's repertoire.

"Both the CD and digital download versions of Everything That's Meaningful in Your Life Will Be Destroyed are currently available for pre-order at Bandcamp.

"Storm King and Innervenus Music will be celebrating the launch of the new album with a series of four shows: November 15 in Columbus, OH; November 16 in Wheeling, WV; November 22 in Akron, OH; and November 23 in Pittsburgh, PA." More...

Tritonus Releasing "Prison Of Light" Album

Norwegian act Tritonus will finally release first album ”Prison of Light” today, after 13 years in the making. The band comments:

"The recordings started in the year 2000, and was finalized in 2006. But, due to different circumstances, a proper release has never been done, until now! And it is sure about time. Instead of updating it sonically for a 2013-sound, we chose to leave it 'as-is,' capturing the music, and the band, from the first half of the 00’s.

"The album sounds alive, and organic. It was recorded in the early years of digital recordings, and the sound is more or less analog. There has not been any extensive editing, or processing either. In that regard, it will stand out, from a lot of the contemporary productions and albums."

The track listing is as follows:

1. Prison of Light
2. Demons
3. Remedy
4. Blindfolded
5. Castle of Life
6. Ten Thousand Years
7. The Quantum and The Lotus
8. To Travel Without Motion More...

Connecticut doom dealers Sea of Bones has released the "Beneath the Earth" track, which comes courtesy of the band's "The Earth Wants Us Dead" full-length. Give it a listen at Pitchfork.com here.

"The song is in turns atmospheric, distorted, and utterly, utterly lightless," describes Pitchfork, "mining the depths of doom, drone, and sludge with care and dead-eyed determination. 'Beneath the Earth' is a slow burn, painfully sluggish and cracking with feedback beneath hollow roars and crumbling riffs. This one's going to hurt."

"The Earth Wants Us Dead" was released digitally on October 31st, 2013. The full track listing is:

1. The Stone The Slave And The Architect
2. Black Arm
3. Failure Of Light

The band's all new LP, "Death Will Reign," is due out November 5th. Bassist David Sittig offers some insight on what went into the making of "Death Will Reign," stating:

“We wanted this album to sound very natural and unpolished. There’s no crazy digital stuff. There are no fake drums. We wanted it to have the feel of our first album with the songwriting from the last one. We’ve gotten better at song structures and so forth over the years, but we wanted to recapture that old-school vibe, too.” More...

Broken Hope Buries The Hatchet With Deicide

After a series of online posts and interviews attacking each other following the end of the No Salvation tour, Broken Hope and Deicide have reached out to each other, made apologies, and mended friendships. Broken Hope comments:

"Glen Benton, Shaun Glass, and Jeremy Wagner have been good friends for 20 years and the blow-up in El Paso was completely unnecessary and the situation could have been rectified if all parties talked it out as friends.

"Moreover, there were some very low-blows lobbed in an effort to maim Glen Benton, and a number of those words were very unfair and very immature, so to that end, we apologize.

"That said, both bands have extended olive branches to each other in order to retain their longtime friendships, and to rise above all the worthless drama, finger-pointing, and scandalous fallout that’s plagued both bands.

"We’re glad to once again have Benton’s friendship and to have Deicide as brothers. FRIENDSHIP and MUSIC are ALL that matters here.

"We ask all fans to please embrace our effort to revive our friendship with Glen and Deicide, and as we all take a higher, more positive road. "

Harm Wulf Streaming Full New Album

Deathwish has this week released the debut recordings of Harm Wulf, the solo musical venture of G. Hirsch, vocalist for Philadelphia hardcore/punk champions, Blacklisted.

Today Revolver Magazine offers up a stream of "There's Honey In The Soil So We Wait For The Till" in its entirety, which can be heard below. The following press release was also issued about the band:

"A project that stands in heavy contrast from his own active band, Harm Wulf's debut LP, 'There's Honey In The Soil So We Wait For The Till,' speaks from the heart in a style of Americana that harkens to the tranquil resonance of Low, rhythmic acoustic strumming of Strength Through Joy and the ascending power of Angels Of Light, to the insular, grotesque Americana of Cormac McCarthy and Flannery O'Connor. An unusual, emotive blend of rock, folk and experimental styles coalesce into a solidly unique, eclectic style in Hirsch's new project, one which will appeal to music goers who frequent the solo works of Scott Kelly, Steve Von Till, Scott 'Wino' Weinrich and other contemporary artists taking American folk rock into new territory." Wretch Signs With Pure Steel Records

Wretch, a long-time member of Cleveland's metal underground, has signed a world-wide recording contract with Germany's Pure Steel Records.

Wretch previously released two albums with Cleveland's Auburn Records, gaining a toehold in the European metal scene with first album "Reborn" in 2006, and furthering their overseas notoriety by penning "Make this Garden Burn" in 2007, the theme song of Germany's Headbangers Open Air Festival. But it was the band's recently self-released EP "Rise to Power," featuring new front man Ron Emig, that helped secure the contract with Pure Steel.

"We are extremely excited to be able to take advantage of this opportunity." Said Nick Giannakos, Wretch guitarist and longest-running member. "Wretch has been associated with Bill Peters and his Auburn Records label since the 80s, and we will always be appreciative of the doors he has opened up for us, but signing with Pure Steel is a smart business move for Wretch and will allow a much wider distribution of our music."

Cradle Of Filth Posts Graphic Novel Teaser

Cradle of Filth recently announced the upcoming release of a new graphic novel, and now the band has posted a teaser video, which can be viewed below. Cradle of Filth also comments:

"We at Cradle of Filth have premiered a new short film to promote our upcoming foray into graphic novels, The Curse of Venus Aversa. Produced by Greylight Studios, the movie purports to show a secret ceremony in New Orleans recorded on a hidden camera. The graphic novel itself is co-written by vocalist Dani Filth and New Orleans comic book author Kurt Amacker, and takes place in a Victorian world populated by images, themes, and horrors drawn from the Filth’s sprawling back catalog. The entire 76-page graphic novel is rendered in haunting black and white art by illustrator Montgomery Borror.

"The initial Kickstarter campaign to support the project smashed through its goal in only four days, but continues through November 9th. The campaign also offers fans a chance to order limited edition t-shirts and work shirts by Sigh Co. Graphics, and even handmade Dani Filth voodoo doll from Quarter Kids. The new film shows a ritual in New Orleans recorded on a hidden camera, in which the dolls are blessed by the city’s premiere vampire storyteller, Lord Chaz Howell."

From his home in Suffolk, Filth spoke on the movie, “I understood that the doll blessing ceremony took place, but things may not have gone as planned. Kurt sent me the video the other day. You’ll have to watch to see what happened. Strange things seem to occur in that city.”

Filth’s co-author, Kurt Amacker, stated from a dark bar in the city’s infamous French Quarter, “I think people need to see the film to understand what we might’ve uncovered here. I’ve still got a lot of unanswered phone calls out right now. Sometimes, New Orleans just kind of takes you. Regardless, I think people need to be careful when they accept these dolls into their homes.” More...
