Tarja Posts "500 Letters" Video

Today Metal Injection unveils the latest video from Finnish songstress/former Nightwish soprano, Tarja.

Shot in Tigre near Buenos Aires, Argentina by Florian Kaltenbach, "500 Letters" can be viewed in the player below.

The tune comes by way of Tarja's latest full-length, "Colours In The Dark." Released earlier this year, the record charted in twelve countries with four top ten entries. For the first time in Tarja's history, the singer herself is the main character in the video's storyline, which is fitting as "500 Letters" is, in many ways, Tarja's most private song to date, offering great emotional insight into the artist herself. The Ocean Pushes Back DVD Release

The Ocean's triple-DVD release, "Collective Oblivion," will be released one month later than originally planned.

Fans will be able to buy their copies in stores and on-line on December 10th. Until then, the DVD/t-shirt bundle is still available via Indiemerch here. Additionally, The Ocean's European tour with Shining, Tides From Nebula, and Hacride began yesterday and will be the final tour featuring drummer Luc Hess and Jona Nido. The Ocean comments:

"As most of you will already know by now, Luc and Jona are leaving the band at the end of this tour. They have given us fair notice of their departure in June this year, so that we would have enough time to find replacements."

Luc Hess states: "I'm getting to this point where I feel like everything I could bring to this band, I already have. And everything I learned music-wise from it can't go any further. This is a tough decision, but I've been thinking this through since a while already. I have no regrets at all, it was most certainly one of the best experiences I've ever lived, and I am more than happy we've been through this together. I feel very thankful and grateful that you guys trusted me and shared these moments over the last 5 years."

Jona Nido comments: "There are obviously a ton of reasons for that to happen now. These include artistic divergence, full-time commitment to a project that isn't 100% fulfilling anymore and other stuff like not wanting to deal with certain aspects/restrictions of what an established/touring act requires for its production and also the way things are generally working, especially on a personal level."

Robin Staps continues: "These guys have dedicated the time of their lives to playing live with this band, and I am grateful for sharing what has always been essentially my own vision of this band with me for almost 6 years. Jona has written great songs for 'Anthropocentric,' and Luc has coined and personalized the sound of this band with his hard-hitting, creative approach to drumming. But over the past 2 years of intense touring, we have grown apart as musicians and as people, and it has gotten to a point where it was unfulfilling for everyone involved. More...

Venomous Maximus Posts Photo Video

The Texan dark heavy metal outfit Venomous Maximus released debut album "Beg Upon The Light" earlier this year via Napalm Records. Today the band has released a "photo-video." Check out the clip of "Dream Again (Hellenbach)" in the player below, courtesy of The Obelisk.

What exactly is a "photo-video?" Photographer and artist Ray Traboulay who is responsible for the project explains: "Venomous Maximus is an 'experience' or 'state of mind' as opposed to a band. Photographing them proved to be an extremely fluid process as our collective energies aligned with ease.

"Capturing their Spiritual energy and inserting it aesthetically into the photograph was achieved through multiple exposure and shutter drag photographic techniques as well as sensing their Kinetic energy seep into my pores. My initial thoughts and emotions after viewing them for the first time were hard to categorize.

"After recently photographing Carnival in Trinidad and having an appreciation and respect for the pagan past, I was naturally drawn to them where their lyrical subject matter touch on these occult topics in their own manner. More...

Aetherium Mors Streaming New Song

UK-based blackened death metal band Aetherium Mors is proud to unveil a new track entitled "Entrails Of The Soul," taken from the upcoming 4 track EP of the same name.

The new EP, the second release by the band, represents the rebirth of Aetherium Mors. After being formed in 2004, lineup issues forced the band into an indefinite hiatus. However, the silence was broken at the end of 2012 with the release of "Drenched In Victorious Blood," a collection of demos which were re-recorded and arranged as an album.

According to a press release, the material on the new EP takes a darker and more twisted approach to songwriting, with a greater focus on atmosphere and more progressive structuring, while retaining the melodic riffs, ripping guitar solos, and blazing pace of the earlier album.

The artwork was created by Maxime Taccardi, and the EP was recorded and mixed by Aetherium Mors in order to retain complete creative control over the new material. The EP is due for release on the 11th of November 2013 on digital format, with a CD following in early 2014. More...

Alerion Parts Ways With Bassist

Dutch outfit Alerion has issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band's bassist:

"We are sad to report that our bass player Ronald van Schaik has left Alerion. In August, Ronald left The Netherlands for Tromsø, Norway, where he will spend the next two years studying for a Master's degree in Landscape Architecture. Aside from that, it will allow him to put more effort into his Cross Country Skiing. You might remember he became double Dutch Champion in that discipline early this year.

"Ronald has been a constant asset to Alerion since the early days almost 7 years ago and appears on all releases, including the upcoming full-length album. He will be missed. We wish Ronald all the best in Norway." More...

Veil Of Maya Re-Signs With Sumerian

Chicago-based Veil of Maya is extremely proud to announce the band's re-signing to Sumerian Records, the label which the band has been a part of since its inception.

This comes on the heels of the group releasing the brand new "Subject Zero" track, which can be heard below. Don't miss Veil of Maya on a North American Fall tour starting November 8th with Structures, Northlane, Vildhjarta and Here Comes The Kraken. All dates can be found after the jump.

Veil of Maya states: "We are very happy to re-sign with Sumerian Records. We have built a long-lasting relationship with the people there, and believe that they are stronger then ever. We couldn't see our band going anywhere else after our history, so therefore Sumerian has been and will continue to be the label the band calls home.

"As a band, we feel like we have grown tremendously. We are all ready, focused and want to put out the hardest material possible. The new stuff that has been written is some of the best Veil yet. We are really excited to see everyone out on our next headlining tour. We feel this tour is a great mix of bands, most of which haven't been to America before, so let's make sure they feel welcomed here. We are stoked for everyone to hear the new track we just released and see what we have been preparing. Expect a new VOM full length album in 2014 via Sumerian Records. See you all soon."

Sumerian Founder Ash Avildsen states: "For years, Veil of Maya has been a flagship heavy band for Sumerian and continues to play a crucial role in our progressive metal movement. I am very grateful and excited to have such a talented, hardworking and sagacious group of dudes in the family for many more years to come."

Armory Announces New Album Release

Power metal band Armory's second album, “Empyrean Realms” is due for release on November 12th, 2013.

The album will be released and promoted worldwide by Metavania Music. “Empyrean Realms” contains nine original songs and was engineered, mixed, mastered, and produced by the band at Mystic Star Studios and Damage Studios, both based in Massachusetts, USA. The 12-page album booklet contains celestial artwork produced by England’s Gary Tonge.

Armory comments on the new album: “We believe 'Empyrean Realms' is a huge step forward for the band and an album which displays a style and sound which is more uniquely our own. Compared to our debut album, 'The Dawn of Enlightenment,' 'Empyrean Realms' has more dynamic composing and arranging, with more colorful melodies, head-banging riffs, key changes, and progressive elements. The lyrics are also more articulate, centering on the themes of metaphysics, cosmology, and the power of human will. If you like your metal with soaring vocals, crunchy guitar riffs, blazing solos, technical drums, finger-picked bass, flavorful key changes, and an epic atmosphere, then 'Empyrean Realms' was made for YOU!”

The band has also issued a statement on the extended length of time between albums: “Armory would like to personally thank all our fans near and far and throughout the years who have enjoyed our debut album and waited so patiently for the release of our second album. We are thrilled to finally unveil 'Empyrean Realms' and hope fans agree it was worth the wait. At this point we now intend to be much more interactive with our fans so like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, play us on YouTube, visit our new Website, sign up to our Newsletter, and send us your comments and critiques!”

Physical and digital pre-orders for “Empyrean Realms” and related merch are available now at the new Armory store here. More...

Anubis Gate Releases "Sheep" EP As Free Download

Danish progressive metal band Anubis Gate released its new EP today, entitled "Sheep." The EP is available as a free download via www.NightmareRecords.com. The EP features three tracks at 22 minutes long. Each download comes with the tracks and printable artwork.

The band commented: "Hi everybody. As most of you know we have been working on our next effort called 'Horizons' for the last two years. But, as some of you also know, we are insane perfectionists, so we didn’t quite meet the deadline for a 2013 release, which was our plan otherwise. When we recorded 'Horizons' we had these three tracks that we didn’t quite know what to do with. A slightly different version of 'Destined to Remember' (the other version will be on the 'Horizons' album), A cover of the epic Pink Floyd track 'Sheep' (from their magnificent Animals album) and a cover of 'Broken Wings' originally by Mr. Mister. 'Broken Wings' was actually a fan request, which we thought 'oh, that’s a great idea'. So while you are all waiting patiently until early 2014 for the 'Horizons' album to be released, this is a little present from us to you. We hope you enjoy it."

The track list for the EP is:

1. Destined to Remember
2. Sheep (Pink Floyd Cover)
3. Broken Wings (Mr. Mister Cover) More...

Belphegor Releases New Music Video

Right on time for the annual celebration of All Hallow’s Eve, European kings of supreme death/black metal Belphegor have uploaded the video clip for "In Blood – Devour This Sanctity." Check it out below.

This is the opening track from the previous Belphegor album "Blood Magick Necromance" (reviewed here) and the clip was recorded live at Moscow's Moskva Hall on October 6th, 2013. The video was recorded and edited by Andrey Kovalev.

Commented frontman Helmuth: “What a brutal concert, extreme, obscene and memorable. For the new video I decided to take ‘In Blood – Devour This Sanctit’ with visual live sequences from the Moscow ritual. Authentic and insane. One of my fave tracks in a live situation. Musickwise inspired by ‘The Hungarian Dances’ by the classical composer Johannes Brahms (1833-1897). You also find there all Belphegor trademarks. Shredding guitars, fast drums and heretical grunts. Enjoy!“

Belphegor's yet-untitled new album is scheduled for a worldwide release May 2014 via Nuclear Blast Records. More...

Mike Portnoy on The Winery Dogs & Transatlantic

Drummer par excellence Mike Portnoy has touched enough musical projects as there are constellations in the night sky at this point in his career. Right now, with the Winery Dogs, he’s making music that “you can just play and feel. You don’t have to sit there and think and count. It’s music you can enjoy without a calculator,” he tells me. In the middle of the first tour with the band, Mike found time to speak with me about the Winery Dogs and some of his other recent endeavors.

Moreover, a rumor about Daniel Gildenlow of Pain of Salvation being a part of the next Transatlantic record was addressed, as well as a rumor that the Progressive Nation at Sea cruise that he is heading up will be filmed for an upcoming release. One of the flag-carriers for the prog genre, Portnoy didn’t need to prove anything to anyone except for himself, as I was about to find out, which is the mindset of a true artist. More...
