Each Tuesday we check in with bands and fans to get their best stories from live shows, and this week we got in touch with comedy metal kings Pyschostick, who know the truth that Dogs Like Socks! Guitarist Joshua Key shares these tales of the band's sombrero-instigated pits:
We have an infamous song where we give a sombrero to someone in the audience, then challenge them to hold on to it while the entire audience tries to snatch it away from them. It can get pretty out of hand. We actually had to come up with rules we give them before we start... "No kicking, no punching, no biting, no wet willies, no wedgies, don't steal his shoes." ALL of those have all happened before.
One time we were doing the sombrero in Nashville, the big knot of people hanging onto the sombrero somehow migrated out the door next to the stage which led into the parking lot. Rob (our singer) was like, "Hey, the shows in here!"
Another time in Buffalo, we were touring with a band called As Summer Dies. Their guitarist Hollywood was just an innocent bystander watching the sombrero pit from the sidelines. A really big dude backed up into him, stepping on is foot and breaking his ankle. He had to do the rest of the tour with a broken ankle, I don't know how the hell he did it! That's the first broken bone we've ever had during the sombrero... and he wasn't even going after it!
One of the craziest shows with the sombrero was in Casper, WY of all places... there was a huge pile of bodies on top of the dude with the sombrero, and one guy took a flying leap on top of the pile, like Superman. Later in the show, the crowd was so crazy that they broke the barrier in front of the stage. Let no one claim that Wyoming doesn't know how to throw down at a metal show!

Currently spreading their negativity, hatred, and audio wrath to the masses on a short run of roadside assaults, today Denver blackened doom metal agitators Primitive Man offer up a bonus track from the "Scorn" album.
Give "Lifetime" a listen in the player below, courtesy of Revolvermag.com.
Recorded by Dave Otero at Flatline Audio (Cephalic Carnage, Catheter, Cobalt, etc.), "Scorn" is a physically and psychologically eviscerating sound excursion initially unleashed earlier this year via a collaboration between Throatruiner and Mordgrimm Records before being reissued by Relapse this past August. Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the signing of the Chicago, IL four-piece psychedelic rock/doom metal band Mount Salem.
The band features the talents of Emily Kopplin [vocals & organ], Cody Davidson [drums], Mark Hewett [bass], and Kyle Morrison [guitars]. Metal Blade is preparing to release the band's sold out EP "Endless" in the spring of 2014, which will include two brand-new tracks turning the release into a full-length.
Kelli Malella from Metal Blade Records comments: "As soon as Will Palmer from our UK office brought Mount Salem to our attention I knew we had to have the band as a part of our family. Their sound is haunting, melodic yet heavy, and makes the listener nod their head as they take in all the grooves the band lays out in their vintage style of rock and doom metal. I'm really looking forward to getting the full-length version of Endless out to the masses as the new tracks I heard were catchy as hell and flow perfectly with the rest of the album."
Mount Salem's Mark Hewett adds: "Coming up listening to Metal Blade bands that have influenced mine and countless others' musical taste, it never crossed my mind that I might be a part of such an influence. We are very excited to meet new people, play with some new bands, see new places, and have a good time! We are honored to be a part of Metal Blade, a label that has such a great timeline of music history. We are looking forward to contributing to that history as well. See you out there!" More...

"We did the album in 3 weeks, without looking back. There is so much new energy this time, and the band plays better than ever. One reason: They are touring more than ever. This is a real metal band that plays real music for the right reason. They don't give a damn about the fame, the look or the party… It's all about the music. That's how I see them, and that's the vibe when we are working together.
"The new drummer Jos is a monster drummer with feel, swing, attitude and skills. I find that very giving for the band, and he's a great guy, too. Likewise, Michael fits the band perfectly. His voice is very big and very classic. He has his own perfect spot between Soren and Flemming, and again: Great lyrics! Hope you'll enjoy the album as much as I did in the process of the creation!" Djerv singer Agnete Kjølsrud performed the vocals on the track “Get Jinxed” released by Riot Games. The track and video is released in support of the introduction of a new character, “Jinx” into their flagship game League Of Legends. Check it out below.
Agnete from Djerv was approached by Riot Games composer Christian Linke to record vocals for the track. Christian comments:
“I had known Agnete since I had listened to her old band Animal Alpha around 2006 or so, there was a song on the SXSW festival sampler. When I sat down and thought of who to reach out to for the vocals on the Jinx track, Agnete's voice came instantly to my mind. I wasn't sure if I could even get in touch with her, but everything luckily worked out, and she was interested. Jinx is in a way very unpredictable and somewhat bipolar. She can go from laughing hysterically to screaming aggressively within seconds. I think Agnete's voice has those features, she is incredibly versatile. So much control over her voice, we could literally do anything. From totally childlike characteristics to raw, uncontrolled power”
Agnete also comments: "Working on this was incredibly fun and inspiring. Naturally it was a challenge as where so far apart, but when we got into the groove on skype we were able to make it work pretty fast. We tried recording in Oslo, but I realized I had to get in the room with Christian and work with him in the studio. Going all the way to LA was not the ideal setup, but when I got there it was such a fun a fulfilling experience. The whole Riot Games crew is such great creative people, it was an honor working with them.” More...

Divebomb Records is re-issuing the early '90s "Renaissance" demo from Ministers of Anger, which is available for streaming below. The label also comments:
"Guitarist/bocalist, David Clemmons, is possibly best known in the metal world as a key member of progressive upstarts, Damn The Machine, but before hooking up with the Poland brothers he had a remarkable project all unto himself.
"Essentially, Ministers of Anger was a two man wrecking crew as David had partnered up with former Murdercar band mate Dave McClain (Sacred Reich, Machine Head) in 1988 to help record drums on his demo. The duo wound up cranking out two demos, both engineered by Joe Floyd (Warrior).
"The first demo from 1988 went unnoticed but the second, Renaissance, released in 1990 is what really caught people’s attention. Not full on thrash metal, but not quite eccentric enough to be considered progressive Ministers of Angerl fell somewhere into a grey area it would have seemed.
"Some might believe this to be an unfortunate place to find themselves, but what it really reveals is a band that was not afraid to take risks and ultimately was far ahead of the rest of the pack even if the appropriate accolades of the masses never came." More...
Svart Records today announces November 29th as the international release date for Kuolemanlaakso's "Musta aurinko nousee" EP.
This forthcoming EP includes three new Kuolemanlaakso songs, and a cover version of Juice Leskinen’s classic by the same name. The EP will be released as a limited digipak CD and a strictly limited 12” vinyl with three different colors (100 copies per color).
The title track to "Musta aurinko nousee," which features a guest guitar solo from V. Santura, can be heard below.
After the release of "Uljas uusi maailma" (reviewed here), Kuolemanlaakso entered a secret, secluded location in the forests of Finland, once again with acclaimed producer/engineer/guitarist V. Santura (Woodshed Studios, Dark Fortress, Celtic Frost, Triptykon). In the course of writing and recording, it was soon made obvious that the band had not only enough material for a full-length album, but for an EP, as well.
"Our goal was to create the tightest and most balanced entities for both releases. The EP introduces our current style in a more straightforward and shorter form, whereas the full-length evolved into something more epic," states guitarist/keyboardist and main songwriter Laakso. "The EP tracks are quite different from one other, with each song displaying a different side of the band and what we are capable of."
The EP's track listing is as follows:
1. Me vaellamme yössä
4. Musta aurinko nousee More...

Pure fucking evil. I guess I've always known they don't really care about anyone but themselves but this cemented the realization into my soul that every soldier that dies or is wounded, weighs nothing on this man’s conscience. He takes no responsibility at all, and it's all about money. Money and power.“
