Rivers of Nihil's debut album, "The Conscious Seed of Light," will be released on October 15th in North America. The album was recorded in March of 2013 at Mana Recording Studios in Florida with famed metal producer/musician Erik Rutan.
While "The Conscious Seed of Light" is not necessarily a concept album traditionally speaking, Rivers of Nihil began this project with the idea of releasing four separate albums tied together with one common theme: each reflecting a particular season of a year.
Bassist Adam Biggs elaborates: "The Conscious Seed of Light is intended to be representative of Spring and explores various themes concerning new beginnings, growth, and an attachment to the natural world in a post-human Earth. Unlike some concept records however, we wanted to allow each song to work on its own terms. Rather than have the songs rely on each other to move a specific story structure forward; they work within their own separate narratives, but ultimately serve the album's broader concept."
Now, fans can stream a video with audio samples of each track on the album (available below). Adam Biggs also elaborates on the concepts behind each track on the record: More...
Deadlock recently released new album "The Arsonist" via Napalm Records. Throughout the recording process the band shot instructional videos for different tracks from the album, and today the video for the song "Dead City Sleepers" is available online.
Another track from Deserters upcoming EP "Try To Feel" has now been posted online. You can listen to "God Feels Nothing" in the player below.
"It's about guilt and God's capacity to feel. I believe that if God could feel guilt, or anything at all, he would have bowed out, a long time ago," stated vocalist Matthew Roell. He further explains: "We are told that he is omnipotent, omnipresent, all-powerful and all knowing. Why would it be a sin to kill myself, if God planned it? Why would it be a sin to voice my disbelief, if God wrote the script? The only thing that makes me Godlike and the only thing that makes God like a man, is knowing when it is our time to leave."
"Try To Feel" will be available via digital retailers on October 29th through Mediaskare Records. More...

North Dakota's blackened thrash unit Frosthelm has recruited Avenger of Blood's drummer and added a second guitarist from Fargo's Imperion. Shannon Frye from Avenger of Blood and Matthew Bellmore of Imperion have officially joined ranks with up and coming group.
On his recent recruitment Shannon says, "I am happy to have joined a great ambitious band and look forward to everything we can accomplish together."
The band plans on hitting the studio in February to record the upcoming full length "The Endless Winter." Mixing and mastering duties are to be performed by Matt Hyde (Slayer, Skeletonwitch, Behemoth).
Matthew Bellmore also had this to say on his recent joining: "I'm thrilled and honored to be a new element of Frosthelm. I will be be playing guitar, and I feel that this is a good fit for me musically and technically. What I am most excited about is I finally have the opportunity to work with incredibly dedicated, motivated, and musically intelligent people (not to mention great guys too). One thing is to be certain, Frosthelm will destroy."
Frosthelm bassist Jimmy Cherry says: "Lineup changes are almost always difficult situations, But I couldn't have asked for a better group of guys to join the helm, Their dedication is second to none, and I see many achievements on the horizon for Frosthelm."
In My Shiver, an experimental black metal/shoegaze band from Camerino, Italy has signed with Hypnotic Dirge Records for the release of upcoming second album "Delicate Poison," which is scheduled to drop in December, 2013.
The opening track from the album, "Closed View" is now available for streaming below. Hypnotic Dirge also comments:
"The conceptual themes of In My Shiver include the loneliness and sadness of modern life, cityscapes, and a critique of the dominant culture. In 2009 In my Shiver released their debut album 'Black Seasons' through Solitude and Despair Music in South Korea and now they present their follow-up album 'Delicate Poison.' Combining oppressive and ferocious black metal with melancholic modern depressive rock, In My Shiver blends these sounds to create an unrelenting modern depressive classic with amazing riffs and melodies.
"In particular In my Shiver utilizes dissonant chord structures to create an uncomfortable and claustrophobic atmosphere and has a strong ability in using contrasts throughout the album which is only heightened by a professional sound quality, strong musicianship, and a diverse vocal performance. This album will appeal to fans of post-black metal, and 80’s rock/electronic music, and in particular fans of Katatonia, Solefald, and early-Ulver." More...
Abiotic spent the last few weeks preparing for an upcoming Fall tour with death metal legends Dying Fetus.
In addition to usual tour preparations, the band has welcomed new vocalist Dickie Allen to the lineup. Allen, who previously fronted fellow Floridians Dealey Plaza, joins guitarists Johnathan Matos and Matt Mendez, along with bassist Alex Vazquez and the band's other recent addition, drummer Aaron Stechauner.
To warm fans up to the revamped lineup, Abiotic has released a clip of a brand new track, "Perceptive Impurity," recorded at a recent band rehearsal. Check it out below.
Guitarist Johnathan Matos comments on the addition of Dickie Allen to the lineup: "We couldn't be more excited to welcome such a talented individual into the band. We've never been stronger or more driven and everyone will be able to see that with a brand new song we'll be playing on the Dying Fetus run. Get ready for album two!"
U.S. doom metal act Coven (also known as Coven 13) will release the sophomore LP "Destiny of the Gods" on November 19th via Shadow Kingdom Records.
Shadow Kingdom Records owner Tim McGrogan commented on the album: “There have been quite a few old 80’s bands that have reformed and wrote a new album that turned out badly. With that said, we feel for those bands that have fallen flat on their faces because it’s very hard to pick up after such a long hiatus and create something that not only pays homage to what your roots are, but also brings something new and exciting to the table. That’s the trick to creating a new album after being out of the scene for a long time. Very few bands have come back from the grave to make something on par or even better than what they’ve done in the past.
"It might be hard for the fans to swallow this, but Coven is among the very few bands over the past couple years that have created another masterpiece that stands right up next to the classic Worship New Gods! At first we weren’t sure what they wrote because they have such unusual songwriting skills, but as this sunk in, its greatness unveiled itself. There’s really no other band in the world that sounds like Coven. They have so many strange influences that create so many obscure sounds that it couldn’t be copied even if another band tried."
The track listing for "Destiny of the Gods" is:
1. Thor's Twins
2. Winds of Revelation
5. Isle of Man
6. Frost Giants
7. Witches Kiss
8. She Rides the Dawn
9. Solitary Days

"Gothic 2013" (the newly re-recorded version of the title track of the band's classic 1991 LP) can be heard over at this location, or in the player below.
Vocalist Nick Holmes commented on the track: "When the opportunity came up for us to re-record 'Gothic', we were really pleased because it meant that we could finally do the song justice (production wise) and Simon Efemey had the chance to give it his polish. U.S. metal/progressive rock act Thunder Tribe posted a new music video for the track "Part of the Black." The song appears on the upcoming release "War Chant." The album drops on October 15th via Nightmare Records.
Thunder Tribe is a completely fresh and yet familiar sound, combining elements from the last 40 years in rock and metal, one moment you'll hear something from the Beatles or Black Sabbath and the next Alice in Chains or Texas Hippie Coalition, and hints of the greats like Iron Maiden, Zeppelin, Triumph the Scorpions and yes even Pink Floyd in their extremely soulful bluesy version of Power/Prog Metal. All in all a net take on and healthy dose of vintage rock infused metal which has been absent for far too long in recent metal.
Thunder Tribe is comprised of five veteran musicians that understand the feeling and power of melodic metal music. "The songs on their upcoming CD "War Chant," resonate with high-range, operatic vocals, dual harmony guitar riffs, and thumping bass and drums. Vocal phenomenon, Michael Duncan, sings with a power and range that has not been heard since the mid 80s! The guitar duo of Ronnie Duncan and Rick Sargent produce magical sounds of harmonies and power chords that hard rock and metal enthusiasts haven't heard for decades. The intricate and commanding foundation pounded out by Tom Dawson (bass) and Chad Osborne (drums) give off that heavy undercurrent that allows great players to shine, as Michael, Ronnie, and Rick do on this album. Thunder Tribe's melodic performances on this album lend to their live aura that is based on the "concert experience." If you have long been searching for that "missing metal sound" in current-day, modern music, but you find that nothing quite quenches your thirst for metal, it is essential to check out Thunder Tribe..."
The track listing for "War Chant" is:
1. More Wicked Than Not
2. Part of the Black
3. Say Goodbye
4. The Light
5. War Chant
7. Watching It Burn
8. Above the Blue
9. Echoes of a New Day

Dictionaries define "resilient" as "returning to the original form." For Running Wild, the title "Resilient" is more than just the name of the fifteenth studio album, its a testament to rebounding, staying true and also "returning to the original form." In 2009, as the "final jolly roger" echoed through the small town of Wacken, Germany, fans were left with a lasting impression of one of metal's most beloved acts. The original metal pirates were done...or were they. In October of 2011, the word came out that as mainman Rolf Kasparek was writing bonus track material for what was supposed to be the reissuing of earlier Running Wild releases, the songs seemed strong enough to bring back the legendary band. "Shadowmaker" was born and released in 2012 via Steamhammer/SPV Records (see review here). It was met with mixed views from fans and critics.
After the release of "Shadowmaker," the ideas began to flow like the days of "Under Jolly Roger," "Pile Of Skulls," "Blazon Stone" and "Black Hand Inn." It started with the opening riff of "Soldiers of Fortune," and cascaded into the most fun Kasparek has had since the old days. As a matter of fact, there were so many ideas, the metal pirate couldn't record them all. "Resilient" is a testament to those old days (see review here) with modern production behind it. The album comes out via Steamhammer/SPV within the next week in Europe (Oct. 2nd - Scandinavia; Oct. 4th - Germany; Oct. 7th - Rest of Europe) and North America on Oct. 22nd.
Rolf sat down to discuss the album, the band's legacy as the originators of "pirate metal" and whether we will ever see Running Wild live again. More...
Portland, Oregon's Ape Machine is sowing its seeds by continuing an onslaught of regional touring of the urban wastelands of the U.S. West Coast. The quartet that admittedly is "out to melt faces and pound the apathy out of otherwise jaded listeners" is eager to bring the live Machine back to stages, and show the masses what hard and heavy music is supposed to do to the senses.
Ape Machine is revisiting some frequent haunts of past West Coast tours all in the support of the band's Ripple Music debut, "Mangled By The Machine," and this time playing in the coveted opening slot in San Diego for UK's monsters of retro rock, Orange Goblin.
"We've been home for a month now, and though it's been great to work on writing new songs, we're all hungry to back out and rock some more," stated guitarist Ian Watts on the bands' mind set for getting back on the road, "One of the dates on this run is with Orange Goblin, who we shared the stage with at Freak Valley Festival in Germany. Those guys kick ass so we're looking forward to rocking with them again!"
Ape Machine, Ripple Music and DeadRhetoric.com have conspired to give one lucky winner a copy of "Mangled By The Machine" on CD and vinyl LP. The contest remains open through Friday, October 4. Enter to win at this location. "Mangled By The Machine" was released in early May of 2013 by Ripple Music, and is distributed throughout the North America through Nail/Allegro Distribution, the UK through Code 7, and Continental Europe through Clearspot International.

UK-based coven Craven Idol and Dark Descent Records have joined forces with Decibel Magazine for an exclusive full-album stream of the band's forthcoming debut, "Towards Eschaton." Available worldwide through Dark Descent on digital, CD and vinyl formats on October 15th, "Towards Eschaton" can be previewed now at this location.
"Towards Eschaton," which features artwork by Paolo Girardi, represents the culmination of Craven Idol's dark visions to date. A coalescing of the band's new and older material results in a mercurial assault, but one whose constituent parts each read from the same bloodied hymn sheet. Pre-order info is available here.
