Blood Harvest has announced November 8th as the international release date for Necroven's "Descent Into The Cryptic Chasm" 7" EP. The label comments:
"The sole work of Jonathan Reina, Necroven was formed in Spain during the summer of 2011. Created with the desire to play the most putrid and heaviest death metal, influenced by the most wicked sounds and without regrets, Necroven lives to spread terror and pestilence through his music.
"Thus far, Necroven has released two demo tapes - Perpetual Scorn and Hidden Blasphemies, both in 2011 - and a full-length entitled Worship Of Humiliation, in 2012, all building a sick 'n' solid reputation for Reina in the international underground. Now, Necroven continues that onward 'n' downward onslaught with the brand-new Descent Into The Cryptic Chasm 7".
"Featuring two new songs exclusive to this EP, Descent Into The Cryptic Chasm sounds very much like its title: twisting and throbbing, forever churning and always grinding, seemingly from the darkest depths, Classic Death Metal Sickness by the very definition."
The track listing is:
1. Descent Into The Cryptic Chasm
2. Weapons of Degration
Each week we check in with musicians to get their favorite stories from live shows. This week vocalist/guitarist Cregg Rondell of Boy Hits Car shares a tale of holding up a pit pileup from the bottom at a Nuclear Assault performance. Check out Cregg's story below:
1989, the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium: while slamming during a Nuclear Assault set, I felt a body go down behind me, and fall on my right foot. As the rest of the pit piled up and on top of the person who went down, my leg got wedged between the floor and the quickly accumulating body's falling on top of the poor dude who initially fell. I began to panic, feeling that if I go down I'll be at the bottom of this mass of sweaty, hairy, heshers. So I quickly grabbed my leg just above the knee, and with all my will pulled myself loose. As I moved away, and back into the hectic circle, I felt and heard the whole pile up slam to the floor, as I was inadvertently holding the whole thing up...

San Diego's Benedictum - lead by frontwoman Veronica Freeman - has announced the impending release of the band's fourth album "Obey." The album is out on November 29th (EU) and December 3rd (North America) via Frontiers Records.
The press release reads as follows: "Heavy Metal gets a needed shot in the arm with the long awaited and much anticipated new album from Benedictum "Obey" due out for release on Frontiers Records on November 29th in Europe and December 3rd in North America . With a sound that nods to the legends of metal such as early Rainbow, the stylings of Savatage, Warrior, Rough Cutt, and Pyschotic Waltz along with shades of Black Sabbath; Benedictum unleashes OBEY that will surely bring pleasure to the Gods of Heavy Metal and their legions of fans around the world!
"Led by the sultry and powerful vocal gymnastics of lead singer Veronica Freeman whose voice has been praised on the television show That Metal Show on VH1 among others; Benedictum displays a plethora of aggressive riffs, fierce rhythms, and powerful melodies full of delicate textures that grow spikes with shredding leads to converge at the crossroads of tradition and innovation.
"The rise of Benedictum began when the band caught the ear and attention of DIO guitarist Craig Goldy who in turn had his friend Jeff Pilson (Dokken, Dio, Foreigner) check them out. With the groups raw power and pure potential just beginning to surface, Pilson then produced and recorded Benedictum’s debut album 'Uncreation' in 2005. The band garnered rave reviews and won over enthusiastic fist-pumping fans rapidly. Their second album ‘Seasons of Tragedy' released in 2008 to more undeniable metal love from around the world. All of this led to Benedictum being signed to a contract with Frontiers Records and further upping the ante in the studio. The band and Grammy Award winning producer Ryan Greene (Megadeth, F5, NOFX) joined forces for 2011’s ‘Dominion’ and Benedictum had arrived. The band jumped onto the world stage playing such events as Wacken Open Air Festival, Doro’s Warrior Soul Tour, HeadBangers Open Air and more. The CD was also a pick of the week by Don Jamison on That Metal Show. More...

"Possession," the brand new studio album of Polish metal act Crystal Viper, will be released on Friday, December 13, 2013, via AFM Records, as a CD, limited edition LP and digital download. the front cover artwork - created by Polish artist of RPG and board games, Michal Oracz - can be seen below. The cover includes many details of the album's story, once again a conceptual release like "Crimen Excepta" (see review here).
With "Possession" (which was produced again by Bart Gabriel, husband of vocalist/guitarist Marta Gabriel) - the band decided to cross the borders of traditional heavy Mmtal, and while the fast and melodic songs bring references to such classic bands as Judas Priest, Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio or Jag Panzer, the epic and dark parts bring comparisons to acts such as Candlemass, Mercyful Fate and even Bathory.
The band again invited members of other bands to sing guest parts on new album: the song "Fight Evil With Evil" features Harry Conklin (Jag Panzer, Titan Force, Satan's Host), "Julia Is Possessed" feature the growls of Sataniac (Desaster). One song contains the "screams" of 50 fans of the band, who were invited via the band's official Facebook page. Crystal Viper is also known from one more tradition: recording cover songs of their favorite artists. The limited vinyl LP version of "Possession" will include hidden surprise track and the regular CD version will include cover version of the Riot classic "Thundersteel." More...
