Athens, Ohio-based blackened metal quintet Skeletonwitch has announced a hometown release party for new album, “Serpents Unleashed,” which will take place on the eve of the kickoff to an extensive North American fall tour with The Black Dahlia Murder.
Tickets for the event — which will take place at The Union (18 W. Union St., Athens) on October 23rd – are just $10.
The Black Dahlia tour will be quickly followed by another lap around America in early 2014, this time alongside Amon Amarth and Enslaved. Unfortunately for fans in Orlando — where the tour stops on Jan. 27 – Skeletonwitch will not be allowed to perform at the local House of Blues, as the group has joined the likes of Exodus, Machine Head, and others who have been deemed “unfit to be associated with” Disney, on whose property the venue is located.
Although Skeletonwitch might not be welcome at the Magic Kingdom, a California couple has asked the band to make their dreams come true. During the band’s live performance in Fresno on November 15, local fans Travis Bartlett and Lanae Forrest will get married on stage — making local venue Strummer’s their own happiest place on Earth.
Says groom-to-be Bartlett, “Lanae and I are taken aback and beyond elated that Skeletonwitch are willing to be a part of the most important day of our lives. There really aren’t words to show our appreciation for the band being with us as we begin our lives together.” More...

Danish symphonic extreme metal act Illnath has decided to call it quits. A statement by Pete Falk (guitars/keyboards) cited a gradual change in musical tastes has forced a need for a change. The remaining members in the band have decided not to continue without his participation.
Just this past May, the band introduced new vocalist Marika Hyldmar to the fold. The most recent release was "4 Shades of Me," issued in March of this year via Pitch Black Records. The full statement reads as follows:
"We have a very unfortunate announcement to make. I have experienced many things since 1997 when Illnath played our first tunes. As the only founding member since then I have always had a strong belief in the band. Nothing has been able to overshadow the will and energy to work forward and fight for things. I am 37 years old now and I have gained a more nuanced view of things. In the recent years, my personal musical preferences moved in a somewhat different direction than melodic extreme metal, and I feel that now is the time for a change. I regret nothing in my time with Illnath and I have had many great experiences with the band, but my heart does not live and breathe for this band anymore.
"Given that neither Dennis, Kenneth or Marika feel that it is the right thing to continue Illnath without my participation, we have decided to call it a day. Instead of focusing on the sad aspect of Illnath stopping, I encourage our fans to focus on the good things Illnath, after all, has brought to the world through the nearly 20 years as an active band.
"I will still be working on my solo project Leadfreak and Marika will be working in her black metal band Machiavellian. We all hope to see you guys around through other musical aspects, and last but not least we would like to thank you all for the years of support and dedication towards the band, you have been our rock through it all. We sincerely thank you." More...

Impiety has posted the following message online about dropping off the band's upcoming tour with Incantation:

"We've tried to get a session guitar player, but time is not on our side and personally for me, it just wouldn't be as great. A new support band in replacement will be announced tomorrow. We wish the bands the very best on the Incantation Crusade of Vengeance Tour this November 8th til 23rd.
"And to all who await us, just exercise some patience til early 2014, when we return and bring the hammer down upon this politically retarded, godforsaken planet once again.

Divinity Compromised will quickly be known for the band’s dedication to quality over quantity. As I would find out in an interview with them at this year's ProgPower USA festival, the bandmates really take the time to be as exacting as possible on their music, as well as their performance and planning in general. My experience with the band was ridiculously comfortable and kind of goofy, like most of my experiences with folks from Chicago. After opening the Saturday of ProgPower USA XIV strongly, I knew that I’d be dealing with heavyweight-level musicians, but what I didn’t know was how personable they would all be. In fact, they chatted with me for a half an hour during the latter part of the Circus Maximus set before anyone looked at their watch.
This interview is a detailed one, so I’ll cut straight to the point and get to the text of it. “Getting it right” is very important for these aural craftsmen, and their track record is beginning to show it.
