U.K. act Heart In Hand has posted the following message online about splitting with the band's bassist:
"As some of you may have seen already, we have very recently parted ways with our bass player Carl.
"He was there from the start and had a huge part shaping Heart In Hand into what it is today, but it was time for him to move forward and onto other ventures. There are no hard feelings between us and we wish him all the best for his future.
"Taking his place on the lower frequencies will be our long term friend and bass wizard Gav Thane. You might remember him from bands like Viatrophy and Death Of An Artist, and he also filled in for Carl on our Scandinavian tour last month.
"Here's to the future, forever looking forward!"
After a two year absence, Swedish act Vanhelgd writhes its way back to the surface to ink a deal with Pulverised Records. The label comments:
"Relentless, uncompromising and with an obscure darkness vibe, Vanhelg came on to the scene with their debut full-length record 'Cult Of Lazarus' but year 2011 saw the band unleash probably their strongest material to date with 'Church Of Death.' Forward to present time, Vanhelgd strikes back with a vengeance in 2014; promising the upcoming record to be a Death/Doom supreme beast.
"Vanhelgd has recently completed writing and are scheduled to enter the studio in November 2013. The band recorded a short video clip of themselves rehearsing a new track off the new album, and can be seen below."
Front man Mattias Frisk comments: "Vanhelgd are very pleased to sign a deal with Pulverised for our next, yet untitled, album. The journey continues along the eerie paths we explored on Church Of Death (NWN 2011) but the songs seem somewhat darker this time. The writing process has been much more focused to our rehearsals this time with everyone involved, trying to make the absolutely best out of every song and not letting anything pass unnoticed. A lot of ideas have been thrown away, leaving us with eight strong tracks drenched in death, destruction and pure malevolence. The recording will start in November 2013 and will be the first with our new bass player Jonas Albrektsson."
Pulverised Records label manager Roy Yeo also also commented on the new signing: "We took notice on Vanhelgd when they released Church Of Death and back then, there was already something about Vanhelgd that we enjoyed. Perhaps it was a little of the sorrow vibe ala early At The Gates / Paradise Lost that was hidden beneath all that filthy death metal that was on Church Of Death, so we immediately agreed on releasing their upcoming album when the band approached us. We believe that for a band such as VENHELGD, their material can only get stronger with each release and further solidify the signature sound that they already possessed." More...

With the release of a self-titled debut record coming up November 1st, newly formed doomsters Avatarium now give a look into the songs of "Avatarium" (reviewed here). This is how mastermind Leif Edling (Candlemass) describes the album in his own words:
Moonhorse: The first song I wrote. It’s about a little sick kid lying in bed daydreaming, and wanting to be out playing with his friends. Lots of dynamics and contrast in this song. Light and shade. One of the best songs I have written I think.
Pandoras Egg: About the sickness in the world. Collected by the gods and locked in, but now in free flow. Jennie-Ann sings it like a female Ronnie James Dio. Great!
Avatarium: Very twisted and a bit proggy. To me anyway. Mainly describes what an Avatarium is: a place anywhere, of any size, where you can worship your demi-gods. Could be that singer, a politian, Tony Iommi, an actor, a historical figure, porn actress etc…..More...
