Legendary Boston metal band Wargasm is commemorating the 25th anniversary of debut album "Why Play Around?" by releasing an album comprised of mid-'80s demos.
The 11 tracks on “Satan Stole My Lunch Money (Deluxe Expanded Edition)” were taken directly from the original cassettes, and the album includes every track from the band's four demos: "Satan Stole My Lunch Money," "Your Dog's Teeth," "Gasm It," and "Spirit In Decay."
"Whoever owns the rights to 'Why Play Around?' will probably never re-release it," says Wargasm bassist/vocalist Bob Mayo. "In fact, all 3 of our albums are currently unavailable. But almost half the songs on 'Why Play Around?' are on this demos album, so it's a pretty cool way to celebrate its 25th anniversary."
"Why Play Around?" has been out of print for two decades, though original LP, cassette and CD versions of the album sell for hefty prices in the aftermarket.
Mayo continues: "We were amazed that the cassettes still sounded so good. But when you’re dealing with cassettes, remixing them is out of the question. And when the cassettes are 20-25 years old, you’re really limited in what you can do with them sonically. We did what we could, and I think they sound pretty killer."
"Working on this record definitely brought me back to those days," says Mayo. "Thrash was just evolving and the tape-trading underground was a really powerful way to get your band heard all over the world. There is no underground anymore, there’s no more zines; everything’s on the internet for anyone to experience instantly. It was hard work to make an impression back then. Those times were really special to us and so are these tapes. They're part of the metal underground's history and we're psyched to be able to release them all together this way."

The album is seeing international release today through Svart Records. The following press release was also issued about the band:
"Detonated in the year 2010, with echoing guitars from the grooves of distant space, Domovoyd has risen to the forefront of the Finnish underground. Masters of dark, hypnotic, sprawling hazed-out doom, their music is a flaming celebration of the psychedelic arts, from the temples of Hawkwind to Matt Pike's altar of the riff. Capturing the live energy that has electrified audiences with their unique, heavy dose of rhythmic sludge, Oh Sensibility is an album that drone-heads and doom-freaks cannot afford to miss.
"Swilling the world about in their mouths and spitting it through a cosmic spiral, Domovoyd know how to traverse time and space, and have the necessary intoxicating ingredients to take you there. Saddle up your space rocket and say goodbye to your sensibilities, as Domovoyd, smoking long-dead galaxies in their wake, blast you into the furthest reaches of beyond. Tickets to the cosmos, in the form of CD, LP, and digital can be obtained via terrestrial communication with Svart Records on October 11th 2013." More...
Wilson has just finished what was quite possibly the band's most debaucherous tour to date, and these dudes have no plans on stopping any time soon.
The non-stop party will continue with a headline date on November 1st in Big Rapids, MI. Then at the end of November Wilson will hit the road with Bam Margera's Fuck Face Unstoppable. The tour kicks off November 30th in Peoria, IL and runs through December 18th in Montreal. That's not it though, this December the Wilson boys will be playing a special holiday show with fellow Detroit Metallers Battlecross.
Frontman Chad Nicefield checked in with an update on the band's upcoming plans: "After obliterating our minds and bodies with the spirits (the boozy kind) of what was almost the entire U.S of A over the past two months, we are excited to announce this next run of the gamut for Wilson.
"We expect to not only smear our rock and roll feces all over the face of Canada, but are beyond excited to spend this captivating period of time with the likes of Mr. Margera and crew! We even get to spend a few days celebrating the holidays with our dear fellow Detroiters Battlecross (FUCK YEA)!
"We want you to fully expect Wilson to leave it all on stage every night. Nothing will stop the fuckery, nothing CAN stop the fuckery! Not even sub-zero temps, the mountains of the West or any wussy snow or ice that may try and stick it's boner in our spokes.
"So HO HO HO mother fuckers, WILSON has a bag of shit hawks to send flying in each of your towns!" More...
Jan Kuehnemund, founder and lead guitarist for the hard rock group Vixen, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2013 from cancer. The band posted the following announcement on the official Facebook Page:
"It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Vixen founder and lead guitarist, Jan Kuehnemund, who lost a fierce battle with cancer on Thursday, October 10, 2013. Though most well known for her gifted guitar playing and other musical talents, Jan was a rare friend and beautiful in every sense of the word. Humble, thoughtful, loyal and kind, she was the most gracious of women, possessing the quiet strength of a true warrior. She genuinely loved and appreciated her friends and fans more than most could ever know. Those who were most fortunate to have known her and loved her are heartbroken at the loss of Jan, whose spirit will shine through her music eternally."
Vixen's latest album was "Live & Learn" in 2006. The band disbanded and reformed three times, the latest in 2008, resulting in the live release "Live in Sweden" in 2009. Jan Kuehnemund was 51 years old. More...

The Northern Darkness Festival, which would have featured At The Gates, Graveworm, Napalm Death, and many more, has now been cancelled. The organizers of the fest issued the following statement:
"Today we must deliver the disappointing news that The Northern Darkness Festival has been cancelled. The aim of the festival was to bring the best in unsigned and international death and black metal artists from around the world to a new event in the UK more akin to the European festival line-ups.
"Unfortunately despite a lot of interest from bands wanting to play from all over the world we have not seen the same level of interest from the general public and to date ticket sales have been extremely disappointing, and it is with this in mind we have to make to unfortunate decision not to continue with the event.
"In short events like this can not take place if people do not want to come and support them, with less than 2 months to go until the event date less than 15% of available tickets have been sold and the majority of those were from outside the local area and even other countries.
"We wanted to give the North East a place on the metal festival scene and had hoped to grow the festival over the coming years into a major international event but without fans wanting to come and support an event of this size we are left with no option but to cancel.
"We would like to thank those that showed support for the event and to all the bands billed as well as those who applied to take part in the unsigned band competition and those who did purchase a ticket in advance. The UK does have some stellar alternative festivals with Bloodstock and Damnation festival but it appears the UK was not quite ready for The Northern Darkness.
"Tickets purchased directly will be refunded automatically over the next week, if you purchased your ticket from the venue you will be able to get a refund from them. Please allow 7 days for your refund to reach you before contacting us. We anticipate all refunds will be completed within 7 days and you will be contacted on the email address you gave when purchasing your ticket. If you have not received you refund within 7 days please email us: firstname.lastname@example.org."
Guitarist and co-songwriter Daniel Dlimi has decided to leave Aeon after 12 years within the band. Daneil issued the following statement:
“It’s with a heavy heart that I finally have decided to call it quits. Why?!? I simply cant afford doing this no more. To tour with a band in our size, you actually loose money on each and every tour. For us, the expenses is always higher then the income, and if that wasn’t enough, I also need to take time of from my daytime job which means absolutely no income at all during the period of a tour plus the extra expenses I get from the tour that does not get covered by the tour-income. You see where this is going?
"We have done four tours this year alone and each one of them have made us lose money. I have actually NEVER done a single tour and made a single dime in the end of the day. I am actually paying money to do shows for you guys. And the saddest thing about this is that the industry expects you to do so. Something must be seriously fucked up when for example the driver, the sound guy, the merch guy, the tour manager etc. makes more money on a tour compared to bands on the bill that is not headlining?!?
"The one thing I love doing the most with my band is actually being on stage performing for you guys. But my passion for the music simply won’t pay my bills. And as we all know, the record industry is suffering as hell and the record sales are lower then ever. So the only way to grow your band bigger is to do new albums and tour like hell… If you are lucky enough, one day you will be at a level where you actually get paid for you job, And like I said, i can’t afford doing all the tours required to maybe one day be a big enough name to do headline tours and actually make money out of it. Tales of Evening has released a music video for the "Winds Will Rise" single, which can be viewed below. The following press release was issued about the song and band:
"The song was released in Hungarian - ‘A szél feltámad’ - as a foretaste of the band’s second album that is already in the works.
"The first Tales Of Evening release featuring ten powerful hymns came out in September 2012 via Nail Records in Hungary, entitled ‘Hajléktalan lélek’ (Shelterless Soul). Two videos were made for the album that became a widespread success among fans of the melodic metal genre.
"The female-fronted group formed in 2011, but has already played as support for well-known acts like Sabaton, Eluveitie and Luca Turilli's Rhapsody, among others. In November 2013 the band will be rocking at the 7th Keep Wiseman Alive show with Wisdom, Powerwolf and Vision Divine.
"The tentative release date of the second full-length album is spring 2014 for both the Hungarian and English version." More...
Leisure time does not seem to exist for singer Doro Pesch, as she is once again about to face an overwhelming schedule, which has her commute between two worlds: the music business and the movie industry.
After vocal recordings in early October in Hamburg, Doro took off to the Swiss mountains this past week, to finish working on the sequel of "Anuk – Way Of The Warrior," where she is starring in front of director Luke Gasser’s camera. Doro impersonates warrior Meha, who is fighting rivaling hordes with her mountain people in 2,500 BD.
Hardly back, Doro gathered her band for a final rehearsal prior to the upcoming Germany tour, which starts October 12, 2013 in Munich.
A relaxed Doro comments: "Stress? No. I am looking forward to my fans, especially since we’re celebrating our 30th stage anniversary on this tour. And the making of the movie was just great. In one scene I had to bite off an enemy’s ear. Afterwards you can see my face covered with a blood. Looks really tough, but it was so much fun to do this movie. I also love those scenes when I’m surrounded by horses and dogs.”
The spectacle will be available on screen in late 2014. And its soundtrack will most certainly include songs from Doro's most recent output "Raise Your Fist In The Air"." She comments: "For me the song 'Free Your Heart' fits to the film perfectly.“
