The In Flames Jesterhead fan club has been blogging about the band's time in the studio working on a new full-length album. Today the following report was issued from the studio:
"Evening Jesterheads! Here is the second report from Berlin. Enjoy!
"After hearing the first 'finished' song the other day I was stoked to get back in the studio to hear more tunes.
"We arrived at the studio around 2pm and Niclas and Bjorn had already started recording new tunes and it was a great experience watching them work. A few moments later Anders joined us in the main recording room with the finished vocals of the second ‘finished’ track. And we were all really psyched to hear it.
"The room went quiet and the song started playing. Instantly noticed the classic In Flames signature sound, then had the pleasure of hearing the best vocals I have heard in ages. This was absolutely massive! By far some of the best vocals I have ever heard.
"When the track was finished clapping followed with everyone having a huge smile on their face. This was definitely a good day for the guys."

The third single from Amaranthe's sophomore album "The Nexus" is out now, accompanied by a video directed by Patric Ullaeus.
The video was shot on location in Hollywood, Las Vegas, the Nevada desert, and the Grand Canyon, amongst other locations. Comments guitarist Olof Mörck:
“Invincible is probably my favourite Amaranthe song so far, and it’s very exciting to see it finally becoming a single and a video! We had an absolute blast shooting it, and this time we flew in Patric Ullaeus and his crew to some kick-ass locations around the USA. People have come to expect elaborate videos from Amaranthe, but this one certainly takes the cake!" More...

Throatruiner Records is now taking pre-orders for "Forceps," the debut album from dark hardcore/noise outfit Calvaiire.
Due out December 31st on deluxe gatefold LP, CD and tape, "Forceps" was recorded and mixed by Amaury Sauvé at la Senelle. The entire album can be heard in the player below, and the following press release was also issued:
"Calvaiire is the union of four individuals with no higher ambition than to push their own boundaries into a raw, cathartic sound. Recorded in five days in their hometown of Laval (France) with Amaury Sauvé (producer/sound engineer for Birds in Row & As We Draw, acts with which the band shares members), their debut full-length 'Forceps' displays their personal vision of how aggressive music should sound - bleak, visceral metallic hardcore played with the hunger of starving dogs, while lyrically addressing seclusion, anxiety and forging ahead despite prevailing vacuity.
"These ten tracks were tracked in a live setting, resulting in a massive, unpolished, and raw recording that accurately mimics the tense and the unpredictable character of 'Forceps.' From the mood swings of 'Flétrissure' to the heartless assault of the closing track 'Meurtrières,' the band demonstrates their will to explore the most abrasive subgenres without losing focus on songwriting, creating an ambitious but coherent piece of work where nothing is left to chance." "Carnivore Sublime" is the follow-up to the band's 2011 release "Asylum Cave." Further details will be forthcoming.

"Vulture's Wake" leads off the split, which was recorded and mixed by Ryan Bram at Homewrecker Studios. The B-side of the EP beholds the track "The Wimper Of Whipped Dogs" from Tucson's Anakim, recorded and mixed by Mitch Burbidge at Omniversal Studios.

Indianapolis-based symphonic metal band Draekon has checked in with the following update about working on an upcoming EP:
"Hello folks, it's been a minute! We'd like to give everyone an update and reassure you that we're not dead! haha!
"We're in the middle of recording a new EP... It's sounding amazing. Should be ready to go by about March of next year.
"Been working around some crazy schedules and such, but we're still hard at work and really feeling great about the quality of music we're getting ready to release to the world. Thanks for sticking with us. More updates will be posted as we have them available! Cheers."
Hellsot has issued the following announcement about recruiting a new guitarist:
"We are pleased to announce that we have our new lead guitarist. Please help us welcome Dave Walston to Helsott!
"This may come as no surprise to some of you. Dave has been a long time friend and was our first choice for lead guitar a few years ago but Dave could not commit at the time. Dave is still in Monolith and has played for Battlefront and Sacrificial Slaughter. Also he has also filled in on the lead guitar position in Helsótt before so we are 100% sure he is going to be a perfect fit for us and will be melting your faces very soon...
"We just picked up a show at Ramona Mainstage in Ramona California for Dec. 6th. We will be sharing the stage with Nekrogoblikon for the first time. This should be an interesting show. This will be our last show of the year and our first with Dave as a permanent member so do not miss out.
"We want to give a special thanks to Mike from Draconis and Possessed for helping us out on guitar and learning our sets. He is an amazing player and person. He will be the first person we turn to if we need help in the future."
When dark metallers Foscor celebrated the tenth anniversary of their debut album in 2012, they were not just marking a decade of music, they were also drawing a line under one era in the band’s history, and preparing to embark on the next and most ambitious one.
With work on Foscor's fourth full-length album now completed, and a complete visual overhaul of the band's online presence and logo, the groundwork for the new phase in the group's career is well and truly established.
The forthcoming album will be titled “Those Horrors Wither” and guitarist Falke and frontman Fiar had this to say:
“It’s really not that strange that we would be moving in a different direction from the one we started out on because it’s a natural progression that comes from experience. We’re not saying that our long-time fans will wake up one morning and not recognize Foscor any more, not at all, because we have a particular style that is recognizable as Foscor – but we’ve taken that style and made it into something better. You could say that the new Foscor is evolution, not revolution, and, that being said, it actually needs new colours to define how we interpret 'Darkness,' and Ideophony, who has previously worked with us on design, is the perfect partner to work with us in physically visualizing our new direction."
Foscor's entire set from the band's 2012 appearance at the Aurora Infernalis Festival in Arnhem can be seen below. More...

Svart Records has announced December 5th as the international release date for Rattus' brand-new "Turta" album. The label comments:
"Ever since 1980's privately pressed Khomeini Rock EP, Rattus have been a driving force in the Finnish punk scene and largely responsible - along with Kaaos and Terveet Kädet - for bringing international renown to their particular subgenre.
"After spending the '90s in oblivion, the band re-formed in 2003 and released a self-titled album in 2005, which, even though the band had released a notable amount of material on 12" and 7" wax in their heyday, was actually their first proper album.
"The year 2013 sees the band back in full swing, with new vocalist Jopo Rantanen injecting some fresh blood into the hardcore power-trio. The band have recently completed long tours in North and South America and spent the summer recording their new LP, entitled Turta (English: 'Numb'). Svart Records, who recently reissued the band's classic 12" EPs WC räjähtää and Uskonto on vaara, continue working with the band and bring the new 14-track platter to the world on December 5th. The LP's striking cover art was created by Irish artist Sean Fitzgerald." More...

This is really just the tip of the iceberg for the anticipation towards the release of the new record for 2014."

You’ve heard the term or perhaps engaged in a pledge and it’s seems to be all the rage these days: “crowd funding.” Some people may view it as the band version of “panhandling,” but when you consider how much the music business has changed since the rise of the digital age in the face of internet file sharing, rampant illegal downloading and lagging world economies, it doesn’t seem like a bad idea, right? What better way for a fan to feel like he or she is part of the business then to strike up a good old-fashioned pledge drive. Over the last year, there have successes as well as disastrous failures, mediocre output and subpar notifications from smaller local bands and well known acts. But, is crowd funding something worthy of slapping down your hard earned cash in these bad economic times? You only need only look to one band that has risen above the rest, proving twice over that there is power in this medium: A Sound of Thunder. Its members (Nina Osegueda, Josh Schwartz, Jesse Keen and Chris Haren) are shining examples of what is right about crowd funding. More...

"After eight years in the abyss, Australian heretics Abominator shall soon return with their fifth album of demonic black/death metal carnage entitled Evil Proclaimed, their first album for Hells Headbangers.
"Having learned their lessons well from a devilish hiatus, the arch nemesis is reborn with a furious sound that owes much to the primordial early days of the band, and yet still upholds the spirit of the gods of black chaos.
"Release date to be announced shortly, but the first song titles to be revealed are 'The Brimstone Nucleus,' 'Invoker of the Four Winds,' and 'Black Mass Warfare.' Await the loathsome atmosphere of cosmic devastation!"

Deep in the forests of Sweden, a long trip into the southern countryside and in the small village of Linneryd, Entrails guitarist Jimmy Lundqvist has resurrected the old converted woodshed that the band used as a rehearsal room in the 90's. Behind these walls he was making some nasty riffs during the early 90's until the band was put to sleep.
It has now become a studio/rehearsal room for the band where Entrails can record music instead of hiring a studio to record drums. But it doesn't end there; when Jimmy was done with the studio, he was so inspired that he locked himself in and wrote music for days.
Comments Lundqvist: "These walls have some cool memories and bring me in the mood to create, so it was a good decision to renovate that room and make it a studio combined with a rehearsal room. It took me some weeks during the summer to fix the room and of course I had friends helping me until it was done. Finally we have our own studio which will help us a lot in being even more creative."
Entrails has gathered to rehearse and will soon begin the recordings for a fourth album. The Swedish death metal machine comments further: "We will work a bit harder to do more shows in 2014 and so far we already have a few confirmed. More to follow soon!"
You can also catch the band live:

Season of Mist is proud to welcome Menace to its ever-expanding roster. Menace, the brainchild of Mitch Harris (Napalm Death, Meathook Seed), is a project for those who dare to be challenged. According to a press release, it is "a journey across genres; neither claiming nor conforming to any particular known style, and a result of all musical history and culture."
Mitch comments: "The band is called Menace, but to me, it is more than just a band or a solo project. It is the result of my life's work. It's a concept that has been in production for some time with most of the songs and intense work done in the last two years.
"The initial idea for Menace began with a plan to work with Max Cavalera and drummer Brann Dailor. Although Brann recorded two songs initially, his responsibilities with Mastodn didn't allow time for such an intricate collaboration. In fact, we all became incredibly busy and as a result, new directives evolved, and to achieve my goal for Menace I needed to see the album through myself. More...

Ian Watkins, the singer of Welsh rock band LostProphets, who is currently on trial in Cardiff Crown Court, has today plead guilty to numerous child abuse offences, including the attempted rape of two babies. The court has heard that in one instance, he filmed himself abusing a child in a hotel in West London. He was aided by the mothers of two of his victims, aged twenty one and twenty four, who also abused the children and made them available to the singer. Watkins, along with his co-defendents, will receive sentencing on December 18th. A statement from DCI Peter Doyle, the senior investigating officer in the case, reads as follows:
"This investigation has uncovered the most shocking and harrowing child abuse evidence I have ever seen. There is no doubt in my mind that Ian Watkins exploited his celebrity status in order to abuse young children. Today’s outcome ensures that the three people responsible have been brought to justice.
"The safeguarding of children has been the primary objective for the investigation team and the outcome of this investigation has been achieved through a multi agency approach at an international level.
"Two very young children have been removed from this abuse and given a future that would otherwise have been denied them. The investigation has been extremely complex and challenging with key information and evidence being identified from witnesses worldwide. More...

Canadian black/doom act Culted posted a preview clip from the upcoming new album "Oblique to All Paths." The album is set for release on January 17, 2013 (Benelux, Germany, Finland), January 20, 2013 (UK/World on CD/LP/Digital) and January 21, 2013 (North America) via Relapse Records. Pre-orders can be made at this location.
Culted’s story is a unique one: 4 band members spread out over multiple countries and continents, having never performed music together in the same room coming together through the wonders of modern technology to create totally compelling top of the line doom. While Culted’s writing and recording process may be unusual, and a story unto itself, it certainly should not overshadow what this band has accomplished---creating a bleak and epic masterpiece of dystopian doom. Cinematic in its scope, "Oblique To All Paths" is a beautifully haunting and grim piece of sprawling doom metal—the perfect soundtrack to a desolate, barren winter.
