Armageddon Announces New Album Release

Listenable Records announces January 20th, 2015 as the North American release date for Armageddon's "Captivity & Devourment."

Armageddon first came to life in Sweden in 1997 as a studio project, with cult album "Crossing the Rubicon," a sci-fi themed concept album. Listenable Records comments:

Together, they have once again conjured up the force that is Armageddon. Their new album, Captivity & Devourment consists of 10 awe-inspiring and ingeniously crafted songs, full of devastating riffs, soaring guitar leads, and fist-pumping choruses. Heavy, melodic, technical, and groovy: this is creative metal songwriting with one foot in deep in the classics and and one eye gazing towards the distant future. Get ready for ultimate heavy metal. Prepare to be captivated by Armageddon in 2015!" More...

The Paramedic Headed Out On Tour

Hot on the heels of new album “Diary Of My Demons,” The Paramedic will hit the road with Sycamour (Hopeless Records) in November and Along Came A Spider (Standby Records) in December. All dates are listed below.

The band also just announced the addition of Chris Hollywood (formerly of Black Veil Brides) on guitar. This move has been years in the making as guitarist Jake Nolan commented, "Chris and I grew up and learned how to play guitar together. We know each other inside and out as musicians and people. We were in a shitty punk band growing up and ended up parting ways for some reason. Him and Andy got BVB going and I got The Paramedic going. When we wrote Diary Of My Demons, I put in so much guitar work without even thinking about who was going to play the extra guitar parts. When it came down to it and we had to play the songs live, I knew there was only one person I had to have backing me up. So I gave him a call. I'm happy to be back on stage with him."

Chris also checked in to say, "I'm so excited to re-join The Paramedic after being out in LA for several years with my old band. 'Diary Of My Demons' is a powerful and emotional record that I immediately fell in love with. I grew up with Jake from an early age and have always believed in his talent and I'm pumped to be able to share the stage with him and the rest of the guys in the band." More...

“Our tour with Oomph! was a great success, and we wanted to thank the band for taking us out on the road, so I chose one of my favorite songs by them, we recorded it while adding a few Blowsight-esque finishing touches and chose to release it as soon as possible, as opposed to waiting for the new album to be released. As far as the new album goes, it’s coming along nicely and we hope to release it in early 2015 if all goes according to plan.”

Interview

Interview With Iron Reagan

Iron Reagan released its second full-length recording “The Tyranny of Will” in September via Relapse Records. This album continues their tradition of punk-thrash songs not far removed from Municipal Waste. Iron Reagan consists of half the members of Municipal Waste. Tony Foresta is still the hyperblast word architect while Phil Hall takes up the guitar in place of his bass. The album contains 25 songs done in just over a half-hour, but not as “cartoony” as Municipal Waste. Here is a band with something to say and they’ll instigate a circle pit in doing it.

Phil Hall and drummer Ryan Parrish spoke to me after a blistering performance on the Black Stage at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas. The night before, the band played Red 7 as part of the festival’s Nites club shows. Their FFF daytime appearance marked the end of a North American tour, but the band was gearing up for another tour, this time with Napalm Death, Voivod, Exhumed, Ringworm and Black Crown Initiate. Read what the group has to say about these tours as well as their zany video for “Miserable Failure.” More...

Stubb Streaming Full New Album

London's heavy psychedelic trio Stubb has released sophomore album, "Cry Of The Ocean," via Ripple Music. You can stream the entire release below, and Ripple also comments:

"The power trios of the late '60s and early '70s are the blueprint for Stubb’s loud, hard-driving, fuzzed-up heavy blues rock. The band recorded their first full length album for U.K. label Superhot Records, and hit the road, gigging with such heavy rock luminaries as the Gentlemans Pistols, Firebird, Cherry Choke, Steak, Sungrazer and The Machine as well as appearing at Desertfest to a packed house.

"Making the trip over to Europe twice with Stone Axe from the USA further cemented Stubb's reputation as a solid live act with some serious chops. Quickly, their debut album sold out and fans of heavy rock have been waiting eagerly for their sophomore effort.

"Now, Ripple Music is proud to deliver Cry of the Ocean, a blissed-out new album that will cement Stubb’s reputation amongst the higher hierarchy of heavy rock bands." More...

Sonata Arctica Posts "I Can't Dance" Video

The Finnish melodic metal heroes Sonata Arctica released a re-recorded version of debut album "Ecliptica" last month, which originally came out 15 years ago.

Today the band unveils a special video clip for a cover version of the Genesis track "I Can’t Dance," available as a bonus track on "Ecliptica – Revisited; 15th Anniversary Edition." Commented vocalist & keyboardist Tony Kakko:

“Instead of filming yet another tour documentary, showing venues and our daily routines again and again, I thought it would be fun to create some kind of music video instead. So, as we were getting ready to embark on our North-American leg of our 'Pariah’s Child' tour we decided to take the opportunity to promote the fresh re-make of our debut album 'Ecliptica' by using a song from that release.

"Idea wise our cover version of Genesis' ‘I Can’t Dance’ ('We Can’t Dance,' 1991) seemed the easiest and most fun to make happen. I mean, walking and dancing around North-America… sounds like a fun thing to do, right?! And that it sure was. The experience ranged reaction wise from 'no one even paid too much attention to us' ( in New York filled with dancing maniacs such as me and Pasi, I suppose) to 'people looking a little scared and a cop telling us to move further away from our subject' (San Antonio). No, we did not get arrested. Damn…Originally we recorded the cover as a bonus for »Stones Grow Her Name«, but for some reason it never wound up anywhere. Better late.

"I’ve always liked the song. I like many, many Genesis songs actually, but I remember one day coming up with this idea to do something fun with ‘I Can’t Dance’ and adding the horn sections and see how it sounds. More...

away, hungry and ready for more, and the video is a love letter to the Boston DIY scene.

"For this music video we headed back up to Boston from our current home in Richmond, VA and threw a wild house party. We wanted to show the best part about being in a band; the friendship and energy that come with playing in a tiny, sweaty ass room with no stage. As we get older many have come and gone, so this video is a snapshot at some of our friends new and old that are keeping shit wild and awesome in the Boston DIY scene in 2014." More...

Interview

Interview With At The Gates

By now, most of the metal world has probably listened to At The Gates' brand new, critically-acclaimed album "At War With Reality." With this relentless recording, the legendary Swedish band demonstrated that it was possible to live up to the hype and create something as imposing as the previous, highly influential opus "Slaughter Of The Soul."

MetalUnderground.com had the opportunity to interview vocalist Tomas Lindberg about the genesis of the album, how it developed in the studio and its importance for At The Gates' decades-long musical journey.

Oscuro: At what point, after your initial 2008 reunion shows, you decided not to be just a "nostalgia act" but to write/record a proper album?

Tomas: From the beginning of the reunion we had a really good feeling. We had fantastic feedback from the crowds, we really enjoyed playing together and we felt that musically we were better than ever before. As we kept playing more and more shows the feeling never wore off, so the creative urge slowly crept up on us. Once the rest of us heard Anders' first musical ideas it was a no-brainer, we just had to make this record.
