...And Justice For Art's Look-alike Album Covers

Lich King's "Do-Over" Vs D.R.I's "Crossover": A Thrash homage goes wrong.

American old school thrashers, Lich King, recently announced the release of their new EP "Do-Over." According to vocalist/founder, Tom Martin, the idea behind the recording was to give a second chance to some of their old material. "The first two albums are horribly recorded—I did them myself," Martin says. "The 'when will you re-record those albums' was a question we got often. So this is just five old songs, one cover and a demo of one of the new songs on a goofy EP. No big whoop."

One of the attributes that has always characterized this American band is its irreverent brand of humor. Because of this, it's perfectly to understand their decision of giving the new EP's title and cover art, a sort of postmodern, pseudo-satiric treatment. Taking as reference D.R.I's now-classic recording, "Crossover," Martin created (via digital techniques) a look-alike version of that blue-dominated artwork for "Do-Over." He would opt to feature Lich King's mascot (an undead king) instead of D.R.I's iconic running man present in the original. More...

Black Hate Gearing Up To Drop Its Best Work Ever

Mexican black metal band Black Hate is working on upcoming material for a 2015 release, and this weekend we'll be premiering a new single in full (check out the teaser below) to give a taste of what to expect.

This upcoming new release follows both the "Los Tres Mundos" album and "The Dark Key of Enki," a split with Be Persecuted that came out earlier this year.

Black Hate mastermind B.G. Ikanunna can't wait for the world to hear the "Aneetmaa" single, which he refuses to classify either in terms of sound or lyrics, stating its up the fans to interpret it how they want. Eschewing the typical tunnel vision and elitism that plagues metaldom, he states "I'm not into just one genre you know? I just see the music as a gift for my satisfaction and I never care about the 'what people will think if I listen to this band, or that'."

Read on for the full interview to find out how the band is continuing to evolve and what's on the horizon for Black Hate. More...

The Ghost Inside Streaming Full Album

The Ghost Inside is streaming new album "Dear Youth" in the player below, courtesy of Alternative Press.

"Dear Youth" is out on November 17th via Epitaph Records and is The Ghost Inside's fourth full-length album. It was co-produced by Jeremy McKinnon of A Day To Remember and Andrew Wade. Front man Jonathan Vigil explains the concept behind the album in a letter that he wrote to his younger self:

"Dear Youth,

"I'm writing to you now because it seems I’ve lost my way. I can't pinpoint exactly when it started, but I know that it’s not like it was before. I’ve realized the more time that passes, the more we lose touch. It’s starting to feel like all I ever do now is lose touch with things. But not you, I never wanted to lose you.

"I wish I had something to blame it all on, but I don’t. One day I was there and the next I was here. As if I was dreaming and suddenly woken up. These days I'm always wondering if what I've done is enough. It’s getting harder and harder for me to shake this feeling of stagnance.

"So old friend I’m writing to ask you what it feels like to have the whole world in your hand? Where we could set out and do anything that we imagined. Endless possibilities way before complacence set in. To be honest with you, I’ve forgotten what that all feels like. There was a wonder about us that has long since faded. That sense of excitement, I miss it.

"Dear youth, will you show me again? I need to be reminded of those times, back before this began..." More...

Soulburn Streaming New Track

The release date for "The Suffocating Darkness," the sophomore album by Dutch blackened death metal band Soulburn, is drawing near - due out November 17th in North America and November 14th in Europe.

For a preview of the album, be sure to check out the new single, "In Suffocating Darkness," via the player below.

Soulburn's drummer (and ex-Asphyx founding member) Bob Bagchus comments: "'In Suffocating Darkness' is the title-track of our upcoming album. It's a mid-paced straight-to-the-core track with sawing riffs, down to earth upbeats and vocals full of hatred."

In regards to the impending album release, Bagchus adds: "'The Suffocating Darkness' is the 2nd album we do with Soulburn and it represents the vision we have with Soulburn for 100%. Greatly influenced by old Bathory / Celtic Frost / Venom, we finally did on this very album what we already intended to do in 1996. People know us for our non-compromise attitude, and that is exactly what can be expected from 'The Suffocating Darkness' once again. Only this time it's a lot darker effort and filled with morbid grimness. It all came out exactly how we wanted it to be, also due to Dan Swanö's powerful mix." More...

Baring Teeth Posts New Song

"Ghost Chorus Among Old Ruins" is the forthcoming new long player from Dallas-based avant/tech death metal trio, Baring Teeth.

Immersive, hypnotic, and haunting, the album melds seemingly opposing characteristics - streamlined songwriting and technicality, ambiance and brute force, density and angularity, order and chaos - into a fully realized, cohesive listening experience.

In celebration of its release, No Clean Singing offers up sixth track, "Dripping Sun," for public consumption. Give it a listen below.

Comments guitarist/vocalist Andrew Hawkins of the track, "'Dripping Sun' is probably my favorite song from the new album. It has strong dynamics but is still really heavy, and it has off-kilter rhythms while still being coherent and catchy. It's a good summation of what we hoped to achieve from this album when we first started writing it."

Willowtip Records will release "Ghost Chorus Among Old Ruins" this coming November 25th, 2014. More...

Midnight Eternal Recording Debut Album

Midnight Eternal has begun the recordings for a yet-untitled, debut full-length album.

Midnight Eternal is a female-fronted symphonic metal band based out of New York City/NJ, created in March 2014 when two members of Operatika (Richard Fischer and Boris Zaks) invited Daniel Prestup (of Rivera Bomma and Spider Rockets) and Mike LePond (of Symphony X) to join them to record a two-song single.

During the recording the band reached out to Raine Hilai to lay down the vocal parts for the song. Upon realizing they had something special on their hands, the members decided to form a full time band.

In April of 2014, the band made its live debut in support of Adrenaline Mob. In June of the same year, Midnight Eternal was one of the bands chosen to perform at the Women of Metal Fest I in Pittsburgh, PA and was included on the ProgPower USA Festival XVI compilation.

The current line-up of Midnight Eternal includes Raine Hilai on lead vocals, Richard Fischer on guitars and vocals, Daniel Prestup on drums, Greg Manning on guitars and backing vocal, Mike LePond on bass guitar, and Boris Zaks on keyboards.

The band's debut album is set to be released in mid-2015 and will include 13 tracks. More...

Detente Album Seeing 2-CD Version

Xtreem Music has issued the following statement about a 2-CD version of "Recognize No Authority" to be released soon:

"Xtreem Music is proud to announce a release that's one of our absolute top thrash metal albums EVER!! A fucking classic!! This is the debut album from Los Angeles' Detente's 'Recognize No Authority.'

"Formed back in 1984, this re-issue celebrates the 30th anniversary of the band and includes absolutely all demos from Detente plus two unreleased songs taken from live & rehearsal recordings, and the two Catalepsy demos, a side band from some members, which sounded basically the same as Detente.

"This release has been approved and directed by former bass player Steve Hochheiser and means the one and only band's demo & discography from the 80's, contradicting some websites like Metal-Archives.com whose information is wrong.

"'Recognize No Authority' was originally released in 1986 through Roadrunner Records in the US and Metal Blade in Europe. Leaded by female vocalist Dawn Crosby (rip), the band quickly gained a status within the Thrash Metal scene with their unique style aside from the typical bands from these times. However, this success wasn't well managed by the band members back then and this leaded to creating a side-band (Catalepsy) and even disbanding after a 4th demo in '89. Dawn Crosby later formed Fear Of God with whom she recorded two albums before dying in '96. More...

Seven Against Releases New Album

The wait is over: Finnish metal outfit Seven Against releases debut album "Beneath The Shell" today - November 6th, 2014.

The recordings started early Spring and post production took place at the end of Summer. Seven Against comments:

"We wanted to make the best album possible. We had the option to only introduce new material on the album, but we felt that some of the older songs deserved to be on the album as well.

"The whole recording process was a pain in the butt and we learned a lot the hard way. E.g. some parts where recorded several times because the equipment and software didn’t always work as planned. We still pulled it off and did a great album.

"All songs fit in nicely, they sound great both as individual tracks and as a full length album and this is something to be really proud of."

The album was recorded and produced by Seven Against and the mixing was done at Studio Kekkonen by Mikko Raita. Check out an advance track below. More...

Gus G. Posts New Video Clip

Ozzy Osbourne / Firewind guitarist Gus G. just released a limited and expanded edition of his debut solo album, "I Am The Fire" (reviewed here), this week via Century Media Records.

To promote this release, a striking new video for the album's single "Long Way Down" (featuring Alexia Rodriguez) was shot by director and long-time Gus G. creative partner Patric Ullaeus. Check it out below, courtesy of Revolvermag.com.

Gus G. comments on the clip: "I worked on this track with producer Kevin Churko (Ozzy, 5FDP, etc.), his son Kane and Alexia Rodriguez from Eyes Set To Kill. Once we finished it, we knew we had a special song in our hands. The 'Long Way Down' lyrics were inspired by a scene I witnessed many years ago, when I briefly lived in Sweden. What I saw, is the exact storyline with the girl in this video.

"We hear about suicides all the time in the news, it's always shocking. Hundreds of thousands of people deal with depression everyday. They're brave. If there is one message we'd like to pass out with this song & video, it is that suicide can be prevented. If you need help, or know someone who does, reach out to any organization of the following links: Suicide Prevention Lifeline (US) or Suicide Prevention Hotlines (International).

"Many thanks to Patric Ullaeus for your belief, your dedication and always awesome videos!" More...

Satan's Host Details Two New LPs "Pre-Dating God"

At long last, the wait is over: Colorado's Satan's Host, featuring ex-Jag Panzer vocalist Harry "The Tyrant" Conklin, deliver the masterwork with "Pre-Dating God, Parts I & II"! Both albums will be released simultaneously by Moribund Records on January 19th, 2015 in Europe/UK and January 20th, 2015 in North America.

Recorded between July and September this year at Flatline Audio and produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Dave Otero, both parts of Satan's Host's Pre-dating god feature artwork by the legendary Joe Petagno. A video teaser for the albums can be found at this location.

Striking while the iron's hot after 2013's critically acclaimed "Virgin Sails," the two-disc "Pre-Dating God" sees Satan's Host going from strength to strength, creating epic 'n' dynamic heavy metal anthems that immediately stick in the brain. With a storied history that spans five decades, Patrick Evil's devilish warriors here bring together their two distinct periods - the traditional/true metal of their early work, and the blasting black metal of their middle period - and tastefully modernize it into a sound that is totally all their own. With Conklin delivering his best vocal performance ever, right now, no one's able to touch Satan's Host for sheer mastery and uniqueness: "Pre-Dating God, Parts I & II" will soon be a metal classic for time eternal!
