Black Tusk Bassist Passes Away
Black Tusk's Jonathan Athon was involved in a vehicle accident earlier this weekend, and now the band has issued the following statement about Athon passing away:
"It is with deep regret and saddened hearts that we must tell you that Athon passed away this morning from injuries sustained from his motorcycle accident.
"Doctors told us that he suffered irreparable brain damage shortly after the accident. He has been in a coma and sustained by life support until now. As per his wishes, we removed Athon from his life support systems and his organs will be donated.
"His body will be cremated and a memorial is being planned for family and friends in Savannah. He was 32 years old and will be forever missed. Thank you all for your support during this devastating time for us, it would have made him proud."
Black Tusk had entered the studio back in September with producer Joel Grind to work on the follow-up to 2013's "Tend No Wounds" EP.
Our condolences go out to Athon's family and bandmates. You can leave a message for Black Tusk over at the band's Facebook profile here. More...
Seven Against Streaming Full Album
Seven Against's new album "Beneath The Shell" - released on November 6th - was recorded and produced by the band, while the mixing was done at Studio Kekkonen by Mikko Raita.
Today the full album can be heard online via the SoundCloud stream below. Seven Against also comments:
"We wanted to make the best album possible. We had the option to only introduce new material on the album, but we felt that some of the older songs deserved to be on the album as well. The whole recording process was a pain in the butt and we learned a lot the hard way. E.g. some parts where recorded several times because the equipment and software didn’t always work as planned. We still pulled it off and did a great album. All songs fit in nicely, they sound great both as individual tracks and as a full length album and this is something to be really proud of." More...

American Heritage Posts New Song
With the release of "Prolapse," the new LP from Chicago's infamous American Heritage, less than a month away, a mangling new single from the band's sixth full-length has been dispatched online.
The fifth track, "Mask Of Lies," is arguably the most whiplashing, manic track on the record. Powered by neck-snapping beats and breakdowns, and the entire frenzied ordeal doused in the scathing guest lead vocals of Enabler's Jeffrey Lohrber, hear "Mask Of Lies" for yourself below, thanks to Lambgoat.com.
Solar Flare Records will release the new "Prolapse" album on CD, LP, and digitally on November 24th. More...
Lorenguard Releasing Fantasy Novel Series
Indianapolis symphonic power metal band Lorenguard has successfully funded its first Kickstarter campaign to raise money for the band’s own line of fantasy novels.
The proceeds of the Kickstarter campaign will go toward producing a large mass market paperback print run of the band’s debut novel," Eve of Corruption, Book One of The Days of Astasia," as well as fund the next book and album in the series, "Two Shades of Night."
The Kickstarter successfully funded on November 5th but is still collecting pledges until November 11th when the campaign ends. Join in and make your own contribution at this location.
Lorenguard is a high concept band that bases its music on an elaborate fantasy story written by drummer Brady Sadler. The band is currently writing and recording pre-production work for its sophomore album, "Two Shades of Night: The Days of Astasia – Part Two," which will follow the independent debut, "Eve of Corruption: The Days of Astasia – Part One," released in 2011 and again in 2013 by Cleopatra Records. Vomit Fist Posts Drum Video
"Forgive But Avenge," the new EP from father/son grindcore outfit Vomit Fist, is out now. In celebration, OnlineDrummer.com is hosting a new drum lesson video featuring 17-year-old Vomit Fist drummer Leo “Lurkrot” Didkovsky performing "A Public Execution" (watch the video below).
In the new clip, Didkovsky showcases how he combines both straight time and melodic drummer techniques while playing in odd meters. Leo Didkovsky uses Pearl Export drums for gigs, and practices with Roland V-Drums at home. He states:
“Currently in Vomit Fist, we’re moving toward more vicious and noise-oriented riffs that act more as textures, like in our tune ‘Under the Rind.’ We’re looking forward to writing and recording more material and hitting the road to support our new record Forgive but Avenge.”
Featuring raw, in-your-face sonics, "Forgive But Avenge" was recorded and engineered at Nik Chinboukas at Spin Studios (studio credits include Lamb of God, Testament and Gojira). The tracks rip through themes of rebirth, apocalyptic chaos, ecstatic dermal auto-excoriation, and transgressive ancient tantric poetry. Pick up your copy at this location. More...

Sunday Old School: Exhumed
Death metal is notorious for its lyrics which focus on the brutal and at times sickening aspects of life. While many bands are wrongly accused of writing material which relies solely on this area, one band who revelled in such a subject was America’s own, Exhumed. Exhumed were formed in the state of California in 1990 by then fifteen year old, Matt Harvey. They were influenced by some of the more interesting death metal bands of the time such as Carcass and Terrorizer and set out to put their own unique stamp on the branch of extreme music which they loved so much, deciding ultimately that it would be gore they focused on.
They recorded a significant number of demos, split releases and EPs in the early career before eventually signing a record deal with Relapse, a label which had become known as the home of the American branch of grindcore, much like Earache was known as in the United Kingdom. They released their first full length album, "Gore Metal" in 1998, which featured an incredibly gruesome front cover and contained a cover of the Sodom song, "Sodomy and Lust" in addition to the twelve original compositions on offer. Although somewhat sloppy by Harvey’s admission, the record was received quite well by the death metal audience and they were soon hitting the road to promote the album. More...
