Ensiferum Finishes Work On New Album
Ensiferum has completed work on upcoming new album, "One Man Army." The band spent the last few weeks at Astia Studio in Lappeenranta in Finland with producer Anssi Kippo.
The album is scheduled for release on February 24 in North America, and February 23rd/20th in UK/Europe. New music, cover artwork, track listing, and video clips from the studio will be online within the next few weeks.
Next week, Ensiferum will be filming a brand new music video with Grupa #13 in Poland. Grupa #13 is the production house behind some of the most spectacular music videos in metal, including videos from Behemoth, Amon Amarth, and more.
Vocalist/guitarist Petri Lindroos comments, "We worked hard and long days one after another while Kippo kicked our asses to make us do the very best, and you can hear that in this album. It's a killer album with killer sound. I'm very proud to a part of this masterpiece!"
Bassist Sami Hinkka adds: "Hi folks! We are extremely proud to announce that the album is 100% done! The recording session was incredible experience for us. We can't express our gratitude enough for Mr. Anssi Kippo, who never lost his nerves, was full of crazy ideas and worked like a madman for weeks! The shortest working day was 12 hours and the average was around 16 hours! After all 'blood, sweat and tears' it feels great to tell you that the result for years of hard composing and weeks of intense recordings is without a doubt the best Ensiferum album song- and soundwise. Material is pretty diverse and each song tells a tale of it's own instead of being a crappy copy of previous song so no fillers included. Next week we go record the new music video, but that's another story… Stay tuned!"
Ensiferum will be on tour this autumn and already has shows and festival appearances confirmed for next year. Currently announced dates are as follows: More...

Interview
Abysmal Dawn's Front Man Discusses Obsolescence
“Obsolescence” is the fourth album released by modern death metal group Abysmal Dawn. Released in late October via Relapse Records, the album offers more than mere DM brutality and speed. The album reveals elements of black metal made obvious by the band’s cover of Dissection’s “Night’s Blood.” The band’s technical abilities recall Nile, while its use of melody and rhythm bring to mind Hypocrisy. Overall, the album’s European feel makes it almost seem out of place in America. Americans love Euro style death metal, though, and the band has received its largest contingent of fans opening for Deicide.
During the last night of their tour guitarist/vocalist Charles Elliott joined me in the alleyway behind Dirty Dog bar in Austin, Texas, the preferred area for interviews at said club. In the following interview, Elliott discusses the tour, which also featured Septicflesh, Inquisition and Carach Angren, and recounts writing and recording “Obsolescence.” More...
Crucified Barbara Releasing Beer
Scandinavia's leading all-lady hard rock/heavy metal outfit Crucified Barbara has teamed up newly established microbrewery Heavy Metale Brewery AB, to launch the band's own beer.
First up is a cocky and loud Red Ale, inspired by the band's new album "In the Red" (reviewed here). The beer will be available early next year in Sweden's Systembolagen.
"A really fun collaboration," said Per Johansson, master brewer at Heavy Metale. "I, together with Ida Evileye, who is the beerqueen in the band, discussed beer back and forth. We were inside the Bitter and Brown Ale, but felt for a Red Ale. Red Ale reminiscent of both the bitter and Brown Ale. It allows the malt to take up more space and reduces the amount of hops which gives a comfortable, slightly dry and karamellig character with a hint of bitterness to rounding."
"We have longed for to make a really good beer, and now we got that opportunity in the collaboration with Heavy Metale," said Crucified Barbara. "We have had the idea and the vision to create a 'drink friendly' and especially good beer for everyone and everything. Just like our music!"
Crucified Barbara has also released a new single titled "The Ghost Inside" that can be heard at Spotify.
"'The Ghost Inside' is one of our favorite songs on the new album," said guitarist/vocalist, Mia Coldheart. "Not just because it is fun to play, but also because it is about something that most people at some time wrestle with - the inner voice that says you are not good enough or fit in.
"The community is flooded with messages screaming at us that we must be good looking, skinny, rich and popular to be happy. And many times it is unfortunately one's own inner voice that ultimately confirms all that, and pushes away the last bit into the darkness.
"The text was written as a pep [talk] to those in touch and tell us that our songs have helped them through tough periods in their lives, but I've subsequently realized that I wrote this as much for myself." More...

Rogue Records America is pleased to announce that Chicago prog metal outfit Outrun The Sunlight will release second full-length album "Terrapin" on December 16th, 2014. The label comments:
"Outrun The Sunlight transports the listener through an instrumental progressive metal blend that combines heavy instrumentals with elements of jazz, post-rock, ambience, and orchestral music, to form emotional and epic songs.
"Terrapin is a monumental release for Outrun The Sunlight as it features a full five-piece incarnation of the band, which is a considerable change from their original duo-oriented line-up. With these new line-up additions comes a growth in the band’s already full and layered sound – adding even more depth to the structure of the songs and a much more 'live' finished sound." More...
The Arcane Order Signs Record Deal
The Arcane Order has inked a record deal with Massacre Records, and the label had this to say:
"Everything began back in 2000, when TAO guitarist Flemming C. Lund (Invocator, ex-Autumn Leaves) formed the band which was called Scavenger back then.
"About 3 years later, everything began to take form when Flemming recruited fellow musicians bassist Boris Tandrup (I'll Be Damned, ex-Autumn Leaves) and drummer Morten Løwe Sørensen (Amaranthe, ex-HateSphere, ex-Mercenary).
"In May 2005, The Arcane Order finished recording a demo with vocalist Kasper Thomsen (ex-Raunchy), which then led to a deal with Metal Blade Records after the band's name Scavenger was changed to The Arcane Order.
"The band's debut 'The Machinery Of Oblivion' was nominated for best debut album at the Danish Metal Awards in late 2006. In April 2007, guitarist Kasper Kirkegaard (Slow Death Factory) was added to TAO's line-up. More...

"The band's been around more than two decades and played with lots of bands, including Volbeat, Deep Purple, Dio, Slash or Rammstein. They describe their musical style as melodic symphonic hard rock, woven in metal wire." More...
At The Hollow Signs With Spinefarm
Spinefarm Records is pleased to announce the signing of At The Hollow to the label's already formidable roster of bands.
The Finnish trio has spent recent months working on its label debut, which was recorded at Sound Supreme Studio in the band's native Finland with producer Janne Saksa (Mokoma, Turisas, Stamina and Rotten Sound).
The album is due out on February 17th, 2015 and is titled "What I Hold Most Dear." The first single and video will be for the song "Was It Worth It." At The Hollow comments:
"When going to the studio, we were in that point where we had enough songs ready to record our debut album. We were ready. It was springtime and there was so much light everywhere, but we still found the right mood to the sound in between purity and death. We had a clear vision on what we wanted to get caught on tape and working in the studio made us do it. While making the record, we felt like all the members got stronger and everyone really found their own place in the band. Everything kind of...clicked. We, as a band, and our audio engineer realized that we were dealing with something totally new and fresh that has never been heard before." More...
