Viathyn Posts "Edward Mordrake" Playthrough Video
Calgary, AB progressive power metal quartet Viathyn today releases a new guitar playthrough video for the track "Edward Mordrake," taken off new album "Cynosure." The band comments:
"Edward Mordrake is a song inspired by the presumably true tale about the English nobleman suffering from of Diprosopus; he had a second face on the back of his head, which could neither speak nor eat but reportedly whispered to him in his head and could express emotion.
"This song is a first-person account from both the perspective of Edward and his second face in the moments leading up to his suicide. The character has recently been popularized on the TV show American Horror Story. In this video, Tomislav and I show you what notes we are playing on lead and rhythm guitar when this song is performed live. It has been a staple in our live set-list since 2011!" More...

Dr. Living Dead! Signs With Century Media
Century Media Records is proud to announce the signing of Dr. Living Dead! and the label had this to say:
"Sweden's rising force in hardcore-driven thrash metal has managed to build up an excellent reputation with only two albums. The self-titled debut album (2011) and particularly their second album, Radioactive Intervention (2012), have solidified Dr. Living Dead!'s foundation as one of the most gripping, interesting and promising upcoming metal bands of the decade.
"Besides their high level of musicality, extraordinary knack for hooks, recognizable melodies and head-banging riffs, it's most notably Dr. Living Dead!'s outer appearance that separates the band from your average thrash metal outfit. And what could be more convincing than four skull-masked dudes from the north on a suicidal rampage?"
Jens Prüter (Head of A&R, Century Media Records Europe) comments: "We are proud to welcome Dr. Living Dead! to the Century Media family. They bring back the excitement of late '80s crossover shows - when crossover was still the unholy marriage of thrash metal and hardcore punk - and it was mandatory to get hurt in the moshpit. These deadly doctors from Sweden definitely know more about good friendly violent fun than spiritual healing and I'm glad we can help them to spread their disease. A special thanks to High Roller Records who discovered and supported the band in the first place!"
The band adds: "The Doc is beyond honored to sign with Century Media, past and present home to many of our favorite bands. The energy within this partnership is building up to a nuclear meltdown, ready to tear down the walls of reality and break the barriers of room and time...or at least your fucking stereo. Get ready people!!! //TEAMxDEADx"
Dr. Living Dead!'s third studio album, "Crush The Sublime Gods," is scheduled to be released in early 2015. Stay tuned for more news coming soon. More...

Destrage Gearing Up For Tour
Destrage will begin a European tour with Protest the Hero, The Faceless, and The Contortionist in one week in Leipzig, Germany.
The band has teamed up with Bode Music Gear to produce new tour video episodes for the Bode Music Gear youtube channel. What will make these videos exciting? Challenges. Destrage will be putting band members to the test in completely pointless and trivial challenges: who can fit the most of something in their mouth, pushups, jumping over cars, who can do the most shots, who can break the most guitar strings, etc. What the band will end up with after a few weeks on tour, we can merely venture to guess, but given the bands irreverent and absurd track record, it's a guaranteed good time.
Destrage has also partnered with Sheet Happens Publishing to release a new guitar transcription book titled "Are You Kidding Me? No. The Complete Guitar Transcription," scheduled to be released this month while Destrage is on tour.
In other news, Destrage guitarists Matteo Di Gioia and Ralph Salati have released a new and in depth guitar tutorial for "My Green Neighbour" at this location. More...

Sahhr Releases New Music Video
Having unleashed the unholy harvest that is the band's self-titled EP on Halloween night, today the California blackened death malefactors from Sahhr are pleased to gore eyeholes with their "Slay The Savior" video.
Co-directed by Jamie Phillips and Dale Pavinski of Gorilla Punk Productions, the lecherous clip is a visual treasure trove of chaos and debauchery. Check it out below, courtesy of GhostCultMag.com.
Elaborates guitarist Aarsoth of the cinematic deviance on deck, "The video was shot in one day in an abandoned warehouse in the ghettos of Los Anegels where a known serial killer had brought victims. There was dried blood and syringes everywhere. We broke in and just shot guerrilla style. It stunk of death and was over one-hundred degrees... all the cameras stopped working and the candles melted. Several of us were arrested as we finished. Brilliant." More...

Paradise Lost To Record New Album
After taking a trip back in time with the "Tragic Illusion 25 (The Rarities)" album and the previous full-length "Tragic Idol" (reviewed here) -- it's now time for Paradise Lost's 14th studio album.
The band is about to begin the recording sessions for this new album with Jaimie Gomez Arellano from Orgone Studios in London.
Paradise Lost's Nick Holmes (vocals) comments: "We wanted to approach the new album differently this time, by embracing the band's VERY early days with the last few years. We have written a very dark yet melodic album, but this time many songs definitely have a death metal edge, which is something we haven't done for a long, long time in Paradise Lost."
The new album is tentatively scheduled for a worldwide release via Century Media Records in late April, 2015. Stay tuned for more news coming soon.
Anaal Nathrakh Cancels Tour Date
Anaal Nathrakh has issued the following announcement about cancelling tomorrow's previously scheduled live show:
"We have some bad news. Owing to a serious family emergency in the Anaal Nathrakh ranks, we will be unable to make it to Trondheim for our show tomorrow night. Words can scarcely express how disappointed we are, and we apologize unreservedly to everyone who had bought a ticket.
"We also offer our heartfelt apologies to the organizers and crew. We know that the show was to have been a kick off party for the Trondheim Metal Fest, which is an event we hold a great deal of affection for.
"We desperately wanted to be there. But we have to put well-being first. Things are obviously in a state of turmoil at the moment, but if we can find a way to play another show in Trondheim, rest assured that we will be there like a shot.
"Disastrously disappointed regards,
"Anaal Nathrakh."

Two New Songs Streaming From Abigail Williams
Abigail Williams is streaming 2 new song from a forthcoming new album, which is expected in early 2015 and features the following accomplished Chicago metal veterans:
Ken Sorceron — vocals, guitar
Ian Jekelis — guitar
Jeff Wilson (Wolvhammer, ex-Nachtmystium) — guitar
Charlie Fell (Lord Mantis, ex-Nachtmystium, Von) — drums
Will Lindsay (Indian, ex-Wolves in the Throne Room) — bass
The two songs were produced by Sorceron, recorded mainly in the band’s practice space in Chicago and mixed where he now lives in L.A. Before they are finalized for the album, there will be different mixes and masters, and possibly some re-tracking.
Say vocalist Ken Sorceron about the two rough mixes:" “Forever Kingdom of Dirt” is rough, raw, and grim, much of it sounding like a hopeless night at an overworked trauma unit, with more broken bodies than there are hands to save them. It begins with a fusillade of blasting and then pulls back into a bleak, slow-rolling rhythm with an otherworldly ambiance. These divergent states trade places, the assault and the fallout, until the mid-point - when the song begins to transform after a harrowing shriek. And what follows, like a beating heart at the bitter black core of the song, is an absolutely killer melodic hook, a rocking riff accompanied by a rumbling drum beat that’s going to infiltrate the memory of anyone who hears it. You should also prepare yourself to be scalded by a vocal acid bath - as usual, N. Imperial holds nothing back."
"The shimmering guitar solo at the beginning of “Will, Wish and Desire” digs the hooks in even earlier than the preceding song, and the pulsating vitality of the music never lets up. Anchored by a compulsive rock beat and bursts of double-bass, the song drives with infectious energy, with flashing guitars and sweeping melody." More...
Phil Rudd's Procuring-Murder Charge Dropped
According to Stuff.co.nz, a New Zealand police charge of "attempting to procure murder" against AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has been dropped. Rudd, who is on bail and is set to reappear in court at the end of the month, still faces one charge of threatening to kill as well as possession of methamphetamine and cannabis.
Rudd's lawyer, Paul Mabey, said that the Crown Solicitor Greg Hollister-Jones withdrew the attempting-to-procure-murder charge after a meeting with Mabey and police.
States Mabey: "I was advised by the Crown Solicitor Hollister-Jones that he had reviewed the police file and the available evidence to support the charge of attempting to procure murder. He had formed the view that there was insufficient evidence to justify that charge. He has now withdrawn the charge. The charge should never have been laid. The Crown Solicitor's opinion was not sought. The charge is now withdrawn — within 24 hours of Mr. Rudd's first appearance in court."
Mabey adds "Rudd would defend the threatening to kill charge. He also described the drugs possession charges as "minor." More...
