Pit Stories: Should Have Gone To Specsavers
To coincide with the band's new album release today, U.K. doom act Alunah has checked in with us for a Pit Story that's a bit different from the norm.
We've all seen assholes in the crowd heckle a band, and sometimes even the band's front man heckling people in the crowd, but it's less often someone in the pit directly heckles security (without getting a one-way trip out of the venue that is).
Alunah drummer Jake Mason shared the tale below of a bumbling security guard at a Napalm Death show [for those in the U.S. who may not get the joke - Specsavers is an optician chain that's big in Europe and Australia].
I was recently reminded of one of the best heckles I've ever heard at a gig when Napalm Death were playing a launch show back in 2009 for the release of their "Time Waits For No Slave" album in Birmingham. As you'd expect from a Napalm gig it had been a pretty frantic start both on and off stage. So frantic in fact that the two poor security guys (who were wearing glasses) at the front of the barrier felt the need to refresh themselves, and gently threw a bottle of water to each other as Napalm tuned up for the next song... only for one of them to drop it clumsily in front of the onlooking crowd. With perfect deadpan timing and quoting the famous U.K. Specsavers TV advert a lone voice from the pit loudly stated that "you should have gone to Specsavers mate." Cue giggles from the band and crowd for the rest of the show. Somehow the gig was never quite the same after this piece of advice!
What's the best heckle you've ever heard - either from the pit or from the band? Let us know below!
Alunah's new album "Awakening The Forest" saw official release in North America today via Napalm Records. Check out a track off the album below. More...

Hateful Abandon Signs With Candlelight
Bristol, England’s genre-blurring Hateful Abandon will see the release of the band's Candlelight debut, "Liars/Bastards," on January 13th.
The newly signed duo recently had Cvlt Nation feature album track “The Walker” on the new mixtape series called F.O.A.G. ("Fuck Off All Genres") Vol. 1. You can listen in at this location.
CVLT Nation calls the band’s audio uniqueness, “a post-apocalyptic journey that isn’t bound by artificial genre conventions, incorporating the best elements of the rebellious ideology of Crass, the original spirit of industrial innovation that drove label’s like Throbbing Gristle’s Industrial Records, and the somber post punk and gothic rock of bands like Joy Division and Killing Joke.”
On a review of the band, Zero Tolerance also notes, “the landscape here is one of crumbling urban decay, post-industrial ennui giving rise to shout-it-from-the-rooftops anger… the despair and danger is in equal measure as Hateful Abandon’s canvas sounds absolutely huge.”

Skull Fist Recruits New Drummer
Skull Fist is incredibly happy to announce the band now has an official drummer after two albums were released without a full lineup. Skull Fist comments:
"The band has spent the last 3 years touring with fill-in drummers and now is finally dealt an unexpected punch of luck. We say a punch of luck because Canadian JJ Tartaglia is a serious drum smasher."
Skull Fist is currently on tour in South America and announced the news to fans in Paraguay, who witnessed his first official show with the band. JJ Tartaglia is currently endorsed by Pearl Drums and Ahead Drum Sticks.
The band will be touring Mexico in November and USA in January with more countries to be announced in the near future. More...
The Francesco Artusato Project Streaming New Album
Francesco Artusato (Devil You Know, All Shall Perish) has returned with his second full-length solo album under The Francesco Artusato Project moniker.
"Our Dying Sun" is now available on Sumerian Records across all digital platforms, and you can stream all the tracks in the player below. Artusato states:
"I am very excited about this record! I have been working on this second album for a while now; it had to be done in between writing and touring with my two bands Devil You Know and All Shall Perish, but I wanted to make sure it was exactly the way I wanted it.
"This album is definitely an evolution from the first one that was released in 2011. I really focused on the song writing aspect more than the pure technical aspect of playing guitar this time. Some songs are more fun and what you would expect from a rock/metal guitar instrumental record, others are just more intense with a darker mood and some others are a little more abstract. The more technical guitar playing is accompanied by a more soulful playing and I love that. This album is pretty much the portrait of the guitar player I am today.
"I was also very fortunate this time to work with two great musicians like bassist Ray Riendeau and drummer Danny Handler. That definitely created more the trio band feel. Even though I still love to layer a lot of guitar tracks and sometimes I go a little crazy with that.
"They are like me, fans of heavy music as well as jazz and fusion and those influences can make the difference when playing a certain style of music. Writing instrumental music gives me the freedom to try whatever I feel would sound good. This project is my way to experiment and try different things. Every solo record is probably going to be very different from one to the other and that’s why I do it.
"This first song is one of the more 'traditional' and simpler ones but I had so much fun working on it. It definitely has a progressive/rock vibe and I think it’s a good introduction to the music on the record even though there’s so much variety counting all 11 songs." More...

OvO Releases New Music Video
The genre defiant, avant experimentalists from OvO are pleased to premiere the official new video for "I Cannibali." The eye-popping 3D animated clip was created by the MegaBaita collective.
A meticulous creation from beginning to end, "I Cannibali" took a month to properly produce, including the construction of its many models, the animation and the final edit. The technique required the fabrication of more than a thousand moving objects in two minutes. Every image has been hand drawn on paper and only freeware programs were used in its manipulation.
Check out the video below, thanks to CVLT Nation. "I Cannibali" comes by way of OvO's confounding "Abisso" full-length issued last year via Supernatural Cat. More...

Unfortunately, sometimes this isn't enough, and we ultimately have to come to terms with that which is unreachable. Suspended At Aphelion is the story of one such dream, but it will resonate differently for each listener. We all have our suns that remain untouchable.”

Monster Magnet Releases New Video
2013 saw the release of Monster Magnet's latest album "Last Patrol," and now comes "Milking the Stars," a reimagining of "Last Patrol" due out November 17th through Napalm Records.
Today Monster Magnet also releases a video for the song "The Duke," which can be seen below thanks to Brooklyn Vegan. The band worked with director Phil Mucci (Pig Destroyer, Opeth, Stone Sour) on the very NSFW video. Vocalist Dave Wyndorf comments:
"When I was a kid I'd sit in my room with my eyes closed, listening to albums and dreaming up spectacular images and stories to go along with the music. Ah, nothing beats youthful imagination.
"Fast forward to today and Monster Magnet has done plenty of music videos and try as I have, none of them ever replicated that particular hallucinatory fever that gripped me when I was young. That is until now. Phil Mucci has captured the 'science fiction noir' elements of Last Patrol and Milking The Stars and mainlined them into 'The Duke.' And I didn't have to do anything but provide the music and make a few notes. Oh, and have a few (extremely enjoyable) conversations with him on the phone.
"Mr. Mucci gets it. And the fact he's so talented means we all get to enjoy this bad-ass piece of 'fever dream pulp cinema'. Something tells me Phil used to listen to albums with his eyes closed when he was a kid too!" More...
Kaine Recruits New Guitarist
Britain's Kaine announced today that Saxon Davids will be joining the band on guitar permanently. Saxon recently filled in for Anthony Murch on the band's tour across Britain and Ireland with Mordred.
The band will now move forward as a 5 piece with Rage Sadler on rhythm guitars and vocals, Dan Mailer on bass and vocals, Anthony Murch on lead guitar, Saxon Davids on rhythm & lead guitars and Chris MacKinnon on drums.
Band founder Rage Sadler said: “We are very happy to welcome Saxon to the Kaine family. Saxon did a great job with us on tour; he showed absolute professionalism in learning and performing the songs live in such a short space of time. Personality wise he was a perfect fit for the band and after the reviews we had from our London show we thought why not?”
Saxon commented: “I’m very happy to become a full time member of Kaine and I am looking forward to what the future holds for the band as a 5 piece metal machine! Rage approached me pretty much straight after the Islington O2 Academy gig and discussed with me the possibility of this happening. That tour was one of the best experiences of my life from a personal and musical perspective, so to be asked to join the guys permanently is a great pleasure.” More...

Adaliah Streaming New Track
Revolver Magazine has premiered Adaliah's new song "Death's Counterfeit" from upcoming album "Shedding Skin." Check it out below.
"Prescription drug abuse has permanently effected or destroyed the lives of close friends in the area we live. A few friends have also passed away from it. It continues to be a severe problem in our area, with Florida being one of the highest rating states in pain killer abuse," stated guitarist Austin Cope. "This song is a call out to the people who suffer from prescription drug addiction and a message to push yourself away from such a lifestyle before it impacts your health and your loved ones. It hurts to see a friend or family members fall into this downward spiral along with the depression it can create." Adding, "Care about the people who care for you."
When speaking on why the band chose "Shedding Skin" as the title of the album, the band stated "We wanted to push the message of change and moving forward." Adding, "A lot of these songs are about personal feelings and situations happening to members of this band. We felt that this album title fit best with what we all wanted to do, and that's get rid of the baggage that life can pile onto a person.

Scapes Releasing "One:Unseen:One"
Nihil Ultra is proud to present "One:Unseen:One," the debut album from Finnish newcomers Scapes, set for international release on December 1st. The label had this to say:
"Timeless yet somehow from a time far away, Scapes create atmospheric metal that's rich in dynamics and texture, from mellow-yet-emotive acoustic passages to epic, crushingly soundscapes.
"If references are required, Scapes sound could be described as a mixture of doomy bands like Paradise Lost and Candlemass and Norwegian masters Arcturus and Borknagar along with acoustic parts in the vein of Opeth and Ulver. However, the entire experience across One:Unseen:One a young band with a startling degree of confidence and clarity.
"Scapes' story starts with vocalist Olli, who also drums and plays guitar on the album. He had been playing in more extreme metal bands and started to build a band around himself around 2007 since he had been doing this kind of gloomy stuff with clean vocals for years just for his own fun.
"This led to the formation of Scapes, and the first official recording, One:Unseen:One, was constructed by five people, all bandmates/friends form western Finland bands Funeral Feast, Faerghail, Damnesty, and Äkä. After a few changes over the years, now in 2014, the band works as a four-piece live lineup."

Inquisition Announces Headlining Tour
Black metal powerhouse Inquisition has announced a headlining European tour with support from Archgoat, Ondskapt, and Blackdeath. The tour kicks off on January 20th in Germany, and continues through 11 different countries. A full list of tour dates can be found below. Regarding the new tour, founding member Dagon comments:
"The time has come to close the black circle, and journey together as one shadow by gathering what we feel is a line-up of cults that we know will offer the atmosphere we seek to bring to you. We are honored to have assembled and bring to all followers this occasion to witness live in the flesh, in support of the Inquisition headlining tour 2015.
"As direct support we have chosen the beast of Archgoat right out of Finland for their long dedication to Black Metal and the art of occult music in general; simply one of our favorite bands and a classic act. Equally proud to have with us will be the obscure Swedish cult Ondskapt casting their potent dose of highly lethal poisons, and, the unique darkened souls of Blackdeath from Russia evoking abstract rites of dark frequencies whom we are very proud to have joining us. From beginning to end throughout the evening, we would like to offer an occasion of ritual to the ancient ones and initiation to the newly arrived. Raise the chalice!”
Inquisition is also currently embarking on a previously announced Fall North American tour alongside Deicide, Septicflesh, Carach Angren, and Abysmal Dawn. The tour, which began last night in Charlotte will continue throughout the United States until October 29th. More...
Sepulchral Temple Announces EP Release
Invictus Productions is proud to present Sepulchral Temple's self-titled debut EP, now finding an international CD release on November 24th. The label comments:
"Originally released in 2013 on 12" vinyl by Iron Bonehead Productions, Sepulchral Temple displays a young 'n' hungry power-trio hellbent on doom 'n' destruction. Staggering in their sheer psychic weight, almost gibbering in their hideous intensity, Sepulchral Temple contort classicist death metal tropes to their own diabolical design, rearranging the coordinates and shooting them through with beyond-the-shade dread.
"Hailing from the UK, Sepulchral Temple's contemporaries could be pointed to as Grave Miasma, Scythian, Cruciamentum, The One, Sheol, and Craven Idol among others, but the bubbling cauldron they stir across the two towering tracks and attendant intros that comprise Sepulchral Temple is sonically all their own. New vistas await, and this is only the start for Sepulchral Temple..."

Evile Returning To The Live Stage
Thrash act Evile has issued the following announcement about returning to the live setting next year and going it alone with no manager or label:
"Evile is coming back next year, we've been hard at work over the past few months with Piers, our new guitarist, to get up to speed with putting a great set together for our first show back at one of our favourite venues (so much of a favourite I named a song after it!), the Underworld in London, on March 28, 2015.
"We’ve still got a lot of work to do in the coming months to make sure we can be better than we’ve ever been but we’re treating this as a new start, I always hoped (idealistically) that Evile could be a band that kept the same members for as long as we lasted but obviously there are some things you just can’t fight or plan for and life just isn’t that straight forward.
"We want to make sure we put the time in to be stronger than ever but we can only all manage to be available at the same time for one or two rehearsals per week which is why we haven’t rushed straight back out there. We need to put the effort in to be as good a live band as we want to be, that’s what we’re aiming for starting next year. This time we are going the DIY route, we have no label or manager. Just ourselves and whatever stage people will let us play on. More...

"It is with great pride and excitement, that we present to you the new video for our song 'Lágnætti'. The video was directed by the same directing team of Bowen Staines and Gunnar B. Redemption/Agent Steel's Bernie Versailles In Coma
According to Arizona punk act We Steal Copper, Redemption/Agent Steel guitartist Bernie Versailles has apparently suffered an aneurysm and is current in a coma. As of yet, there has been no official press statement from either the Versailles family or Redemption.
The post on We Steal Copper's Facebook pages as of last night reads: "Please keep our best friend & camera man, Bernie Versailles, in your prayers. He is in a coma right now after suffering an anyerism. Some of you know him from our Beer Pong video shoot. Some of you may know him as the guitarist of Agent Steel. We know & love him like family. Either way he has been with us since the beginning and he and his family need all the positive energy. Thank u guys!"
This morning, the band posted the following statement online from Agent Steel bassist Michael Zaputil:
"Michael here. First off, I want to thank all of you. I want to thank Bernie's and my forever brothers in the Agent Steel family, Juan, Karlos, Rick, and Chuck. I also want to thank our brothers in the thrash community who have expressed their concerns. I love you all more than I could express, it is exactly how we pulled together in the first place and took the world as our own back when it mattered. But I have to get this off my chest. It isn't fair. Bernie and I joined Agent Steel together in late 1985. He was 18, I was 26. Before that as a teenager, he devoted himself to being the best musician possible, but he was also a gifted natural. Clean living. Dedicated. In contrast, I on the other hand from the late '70s through the '80s was Sid Vicious and Kurt Cobain combined. I did enough blow and heroin to keep the Afghan and South American drug cartels in business for years, and trust me, that is no exaggeration. Along with being a heavy drinker and smoker. Still smoking actually. At that time, I considered myself a Christian, talk about a walking contradiction.
"Here is a guy that never abused his physical body though, took his music totally seriously, and then this. Just one of many things nowadays that make no sense to me. I happen to know that there are enough of us sending positive prayer and energy to see him through this. It will happen, I will not accept this otherwise. He and I have been through things together you wouldn't believe. Going on thirty years. Way too much to get stopped in our tracks now, we have much work to do. And I'm sorry I didn't respond to some of you earlier, when I get hit with something like this, I tend to pull away and go into my shell. I'm fucked up that way. But bless you all...." More...
