Metalunderground.com Official Podcast, Episode 35
In addition to the upcoming Attila show at Fort Lauderdale’s Revolution Live on Friday, November 14th (supported by Crown The Empire and Like Moths To Flames), we at the MetalUnderground.com Official Podcast are now staging another ticket giveaway contest through the same venue: The Ghost Inside (supported by Every Time I Die and Architects) on Sunday, November 30th. If interested, submit your full name matching your ID to podcast@metalunderground.com with one of the headlining bands in the subject line.
We launch this week’s episode with the song “These Empty Skies” from Keychain, a melodic hard rock five-piece based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The band formed in Novi Sad, Serbia, in 2009 covering songs by Godsmack, Shinedown, and (hold your tongue) Nickelback. After a disbandment and reformation, Keychain is currently working on a full-length original studio album.
Then co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) reports on his adventures this week on the road. He joined members of Lynchburg, Virginia metallers Mourn The Illusion on a whirlwind trek through North Carolina, starting with a headlining show by Italy’s Lacuna Coil at Greensboro’s Greene Street Club and a lively interview with the warm and lovely Cristina Scabbia (vocals). The following day came a jaunt over to Tremont Music Hall in Charlotte, an intimate, underground, sparsely promoted show, and a “special evening with” Soulfly and the entire Cavalera Tribe. Stay tuned for Mike’s rundown of events.
Finally - and you knew we couldn’t leave this one alone - Mike and co-host Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) serve up the in-depth review and analysis you’ve been anticipating (or dreading) for months: Slipknot’s upcoming fifth full-length “.5: The Gray Chapter.” While reactions on at least one of our parts are a tad early, and a patented opinion might require a few more listens, we nonetheless do our enthusiastic best to describe in thorough detail the essence of this fascinating and rather unpredictable work of metal (and yes, Slipknot IS metal).
Listen in here, subscribe via iTunes or RSS feed, and enjoy! And not to worry - after today, we’re finished with Slipknot for the foreseeable future. Perhaps.

Structures Going On Indefinite Hiatus
Structures has checked in with the following announcement about lining up a farewell tour in December:
"We are saddened to announce that Structures will be going on an indefinite hiatus come 2015. This is not an easy decision considering how much we have put into this band since it's inception in 2009, however we all feel that a healthy break is necessary for each of us for various personal reasons. We are all on good terms and have made this decision collectively.
"We want to thank all of our fans, new and old, for supporting the music we have made throughout the last few years. You are what allowed us to live out our dreams and for that we are forever grateful. To all of the bands we have toured with and the friendships that have been formed along the way, thank you for the unforgettable times on the road and the great shows that we've shared. Thank you to Sumerian Records for giving us a platform to release our music. Thanks to Outerloop Management, Good Fight, Pantheon, Avocado and The Agency Group for all your help through the years.
"This tour will be a farewell tour of sorts, however, we are not fully closing the idea of picking things back up if and when the time is right. Who knows what tomorrow brings.
"We're also excited to have Nick joining us on these dates. It only makes sense that we finish off how we started. We will be playing songs from our entire catalogue.
"Looking forward to playing some fun shows around home with Obey The Brave, our hometown friends in Exalt and Villains. See you at the dates below and thanks for your support, we love you all."

Gnosis Announces Album Release
With distinguished pride and anticipation, Nuclear War Now! Productions is pleased to announce January 15th, 2015 as the international release date for Gnosis's debut album, "The Third-Eye Gate." Nuclear War Now! had this to say:
"Hailing from Florida (and its members having previously participated in other regional bands of somewhat disparate styles), Gnosis was born into the esteemed lineage of a highly-regarded tradition in black/death metal.
"Their geographic roots notwithstanding, Gnosis (from the Greek term denoting a 'religion of knowledge') may actually share more in common musically with the tradition of the country from which the name is derived. Though the band is clearly anything but a clone of a previously established style or aesthetic, the riffs themselves exude characteristics similar to those that adorn the ancient Greek canon of black metal (Varathron, in particular, comes to mind). On the other hand - and further confirming the difficulty in strictly characterizing the band’s output according to a particular sound - the vocals, song structures, and atmosphere are more reminiscent of Goetia-era Mystifier.
"These elements combine most effectively to produce a singular result that is both unique in and of itself, while at the same time paying homage to the ancestors of two distinct heritages that laid the foundations upon which this temple of wretchedness could be built."
The album's track listing is as follows:
1. Intro
2. Primaeval Light
3. The Plague of Azotus
4. Temple of the Sea
5. Chariot of the Sun-Moon
6. Cult of the Great Serpent
7. Lotan's Dwelling

Foreseen HKI Streaming "Market Target"
Following initial reports of when 20 Buck Spin would be releasing Foreseen HKI's "Helsinki Savagery" in late in November, the album was just too unstable and uncontainable to keep under wraps that long, forcing the label to push the street date forward two weeks.
Now that the Finnish crossover killers' debut LP is set to detonate stateside in just three weeks, Vice Magazine's Noisey blog has initiated the next wave of bloodshed from the album, unloading the destructive "Market Target." Check it out below.
You can also hear the previously released song "Death Injection" over at this location. "Helsinki Savagery" is locked for impact via 20 Buck Spin on CD and digital formats in North America on November 11th, while the European street date remains at November 24th. More...

Sylosis Unveils New Album Artwork
Sylosis today has revealed the artwork for "Dormant Heart," which was created by Bristol based artist Bonfire.
On the theme of the artwork, the band comments: "The cover relates to sacrifice (the sacrificial lamb is more of a symbol than something to be taken literally) but also the looming, oppressing figure in the background represents corruption and being forced into something against your will."
Pre-orders for the new album are now live at this location. Sylosis also had this to say about the impending release:
“It's the most pissed-off, aggressive and intense album we've done, yet it still retains the epic, progressive and melodic side we're also known for. It's a very gloomy and atmospheric album. We've been through a lot as a band and individuals and we've made our darkest album to date. The title refers to people going through life on autopilot and being one of the herd, how a lot of people simply accept the way things are just because it's 'tradition' as opposed to taking a good look at the world around you and thinking for yourself. Sometimes there are catalysts that happen and change our perspective or consciousness.”
"Dormant Heart" is set to be released January 16th, 2015 via Nuclear Blast. A play through video for the new song "Mercy" can also be found at this location. More...

Sodom Releasing New EP
Tom Angelripper had this to say about new EP "Sacred Warpath" and on the state of the world:
"Since we've been getting the impression that the world is falling apart at the seams, we've decided to make our voices head ... while there's still time. 'Sacred Warpath' was originally written for our upcoming album, but we feel it's a good idea to release it now as an appetizer for future Sodom tracks.
"Because it's going to get raw, brutal and will be a reflection of all the things that we're afraid of and that give us nightmares. Pretty much like that hate-filled world we live in. And it's probably more authentic than any of our releases so far.
"The record includes three representative titles which we recorded in Germany this year, and it's guaranteed to become a rare collectors' item. The cover will feature a re-paint of an old design from the 80s, which I did for a demo cover, painted in oil by Christian Ermel. This may all sound a little old-school, but that's intentional. That's what we've always been and always will be about. We very much hope to tie over the waiting time until the arrival of our new album. And now listen to my unmistakable demand on this world: turn back on your sacred warpath and find the path of peace before it's too late. Our music will help you!"
The "Sacred Warpath" EP will be released worldwide through SPV / Steamhammer on November 28th in Germany, December 1st in Europe, and late January 2015 in the USA on CD, 10" clear vinyl, and digital download formats. The track listing is:
1. Sacred Warpath
2. The Saw Is The Law (live)
3. City Of God (live)
4. Stigmatized (live) More...
Twisted Wrath Splits With Bassist
Twisted Wrath has issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band's bass player:
"It is with great sadness that we announce the departure of Twisted Wrath bassist, Niall McGuinness.
"Niall has been an integral part of the writing process on both our last release, 'Madman's Chorus,' and on the new material for our upcoming album, as well as sharing the stage with us supporting bands such as Anthrax, Michael Schenker Group, Exodus and Hell.
"But after careful consideration, Niall has come to the conclusion that it would best for both himself and the band if he was to step back.
"Niall was not just a band mate, but is also a best friend, and we wish him the best in his future musical endeavours and thank him for bringing such professionalism and unmatchable musicianship to the band for over 2 years." More...

Panikk Signs With Xtreem Music
The Slovenian thrashers in Panikk have inked a deal with Xtreem Music that will begin with the immediate re-issue of last year's "Unbearable Conditions" album.
Originally released in a pressing of only 250 copies, the album didn't get the proper attention it deserved in the thrash scene, which Xtreem Music aims to change. The label comments:
"Panikk represents, alongside with label mates Eruption, one of Slovenia's top thrash metal bands and their aggressive yet technical style is sure to catch the attention of any lover of good old school thrash metal in the vein of bands like Demolition Hammer, Exodus, Vio-lence... 'Unbearable Condition' gets a new chance with this re-issue and will put the band in the map while they're working on their 2nd album which is planned to be recorded in summer 2015."

Vocalist Alessandro Conti reveals: “This album surely includes the most and greatest challenging parts I ever recorded until now. I am sure our fans will go crazy for this new Rhapsody release because of the many surprises and real hit songs included inside it. I also had the chance to sing together with one of my all-time favorite singers and this has been a further satisfaction.”
Luca Turilli adds: “This is really a super production close to the one of a soundtrack for an Hollywood blockbuster. We recorded all kind of choirs for over 15 long and exhausting days, collaborating with amazing singers like Ralf Scheepers, Dan Lucas, Bridget Fogle, Previn Moore plus other special guests. I composed and arranged all the choral and orchestral parts in the same way I would do it while scoring for a movie or videogame trailer and I am sure our fans will go crazy for this new album as we do! I simply love it and I could surely define it as ‘the quintessence of cinematic metal’. Bombastic, epic and dramatic as never before!” More...

At The Gates Posts "Death And The Labyrinth" Video
Swedish pioneering melodic death metal act At the Gates released a music video for the new track "Death and the Labyrinth." The song appears on the long awaiting return album "At War With Reality," which will be issued on October 27th via Century Media Records.
Tomas Lindberg (vocals) comments: "We had a very special idea about the kind of approach we wanted for the first video from 'At War With Reality'. What we needed was someone gifted enough to throw himself artistically into the project full on. The lyrics to the song are very multi-layered and surreal, so we wanted someone to create a fevered dreamworld that went with the melancholic frustration and dramatic desperation that we feel comes across in the song. This is exactly what Patric has created for us. It's his vision of the music and lyrics, which compliments the track perfectly in my opinion. I couldn't be happier!"
Director Patric Ullaeus adds: "It's always nice to work with creative artists who are like-minded. Ideas seem to flow easily. We had a lot of fun making our vision come true. Being on these amazing locations in Antelope Canyon, Arizona was truly an unforgettable experience."
The track listing is as follows:

"Today we welcome Viky Boyer to the Karkaos family. Her passion and dedication inspired us and her voice opened gateways to bigger and better things to come. We are honored to henceforth share the stage with this talented musician, exceptional singer and all-around amazing person.
"More importantly we are excited to unleash this beast of a front woman and show you all what a new Karkaos is all about! Be sure to come out on November 28th in Montreal at Petit Cafe Campus to give a warm welcome to Viky, enjoy a killer show and share a few drinks to celebrate this new and exciting chapter in the Karkaos history."
New vocalist Viky Boyer also had this to say: "It’s an honor for me to play with such talented musicians. I've known Karkaos for awhile now; I’ve always appreciated their music, so I knew I had to give it a shot when I got the opportunity! Lots of stuff to come. We already started to write new material, and I feel like I’m right where I belong."
The band has also posted a teaser for the upcoming re-recorded track "Leap of Faith" off the band's latest album "Empire." The full track will be released on Monday, October 20th. More...
Drowning Pool Re-Issuing "Sinner"
Drowning Pool is set to release the two-disc "Sinner (Unlucky 13th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)" on 11/11/14 via The Bicycle Music Company/Concord.
The band will also launch the corresponding Unlucky Sinner 13 tour performing "Sinner" in its entirety beginning October 21st in San Antonio, Texas.
The expanded reissue of debut album "Sinner," originally released on 6/15/01, represents the definitive version of Drowning Pool’s classic Dave Williams years, whose untimely death in 2002 at the too-early age of 30 marked an unlucky end to a rising star.
"Sinner (Unlucky 13th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)" is re-mastered and features a new bonus disc of 13 studio demos direct from the band’s vaults, officially available for the first time.
The unreleased track “Soul,” from disc two, was serviced to the Active Rock radio format just a few days ago and a video for “Soul” will premiere in November featuring rare and never before seen footage of Drowning Pool from the "Sinner" era. Pre-orders for this new version can be found at Amazon.com here.
Samskaras Releases Debut Single
Montreal progressive death metallers Samskaras just released their debut single, "Consecrate," along with a multi-instrument play through video shot at Chris Donaldson's (Cryptopsy) studio, The Grid. Check it out below.
Samskaras is the new metal project founded by Montreal-based musician Eric Burnet (Derelict). With songs written from an exploratory perspective, influences as far-flung as Gorguts, The Ocean, Enslaved, Wood Of Ypres, The Faceless, Gojira and more are mixed into inventive combinations. Burnet is joined by drummer Alexandre Dupras, known for his work with (the)Plasmarifle, Unhuman, and Teramobil.
“With Samskaras I just want to let the seed of each idea grow into what it may,” explains Burnet. “It'll remain extreme music, but I'm more interested in reflecting my inner state and telling stories than I am in fitting into one genre or another. I approached Alexandre to do the drums because his organic style fits really well with how I write for this project.”
"Consecrate" will be followed in two weeks by a second single called "Red Hill." The songs are available as pay-what-you-want downloads at Bandcamp. More...
