After introducing the song “Withered” by Canton, Ohio’s brutal death metallers TON, we kick off this week by examining another highly anticipated new album. Co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) shines a spotlight on “The Year The Sun Died,” (reviewed here) the third studio album by Seattle act Sanctuary, and first since the group reformed after more than a two-decade split. Tune in to hear his thoughts on the latest offering from singer Warrel Dane (ex-Nevermore) and company.
Next, co-host Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) relates his (and likely many other fans’) frustrations over the interminable delays and setbacks befalling the next Veil Of Maya album, including the sudden, unceremonious departure of frontman Brandon Butler smack in the middle of recording.
Finally comes a not-so-serious reaction to the latest work of fine art from Mastodon, a video single titled “Boobs & Butts” (err, “The Motherload”). We’ll let the music, images, and our comments speak for themselves.
The godfathers of rock from TNT have released a full video stream of "TNT - 30th Anniversary 1982-2012 Live in Concert." Watch the full hour and a half video below, courtesy of TeamRock.com.
Trondheim Symphony Orchestra accompanied the band throughout the 30th anniversary celebration evening, where TNT delivered a show filled with dynamics, power, and authenticity.
The lineup of the evening consisted of founding members Ronni Le Tekro and Diesel Dahl alongside later recruits Victor Borge and Tony Mills, and there are guest appearances by artists like Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Hank von Helvete (Turbonegro), and Dag Ingebrigtsen.
The Paramedic just checked in with this statement about cancelling upcoming tour dates:
"As much as it pains us, we have to announce that our tour with Consider Me Dead, Catching Your Clouds, and The Persevering Promise has been canceled on us.
"We are so sorry, this is totally out of control. We were not involved in the decision of this. In fact, when we were informed this is the route that was being taken, we tried to make the dates work on our own but it was not possible with the short timeframe and the majority promoters on the tour. We totally understand that because it puts them in a precarious position.
"We are very grateful and thankful to anyone who bought tickets or were planning on coming out to see us. We'd also like to thank all of the promoters and venues that were planning to have us on the tour. West coast, we'll be back sooner than you think." More...

Friedman will then continue the “Inferno” worldwide assault on a U.K. trek with Kreator and Arch Enemy. The tour will also include support from Norwegian forward-thinking “blackjazz” act Shining, whose frontman Jørgen Munkeby lent his lively saxophone chops to the “Inferno” standout “Meat Hook," and whose members will serve as the guitarist’s backing band during the tour.

Psycho Spoon guitarist C.C. Murphree has issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band:
"Before this gets through the grape vine as things like this tend to do, (and because I've already been questioned about missing the photoshoot Sunday) I am going to go ahead and announce that I have decided that it is best for me, my family, and the band that I leave Psycho Spoon.
"There are no hard feelings between any of us, and I still love and respect them all as great friends and brothers. I was going to play the show coming up on the 25th as a farewell, but they have found a special guest to fill in that I think is going to be pretty freaking cool (No it's not Karl).
"I will continue to support the guys in the future because I believe that this band has what it takes to make it. But, I have a seven year old daughter, and 12 year old son who are growing up faster every day. Instead of using weeks of my vacation to tour and be a rock star, I feel that I should be using that time to take my kids to places like Disneyland and be a father instead.
"It has truly been one of the biggest honors of my life to play with Pete, Rick Mark and Decha. Thank you so much guys for the chance to get to play with greats like you.
"I will now start concentrating on my album to finish writing and getting all of it recorded with the help of many of you who have jumped on board with me to offer your talents. And I am very excited to get to work with some of you that I have never gotten to work with before, and others I haven't worked with in many years. Keep the horns flying high."
Symphonic/gothic metal band Hortus Animae has issued the following announcement about confirming a new lineup:

"The picture has been taken during Martyr Lucifer’s birthday party and unfortunately Grom (drums) and Ecnerual (violin) couldn’t make it. IMPORTANT: Grom is still Hortus Animae’s official drummer." More...

Milwaukee based metalcore outfit Misery Signals celebrated the 10th anniversary of the album "Of Malice and the Magnum Heart" with the Malice X tour, playing shows in select cities in August.
Due to popular demand from fans, the band is back for round two on the West Coast announcing a show at the Glasshouse Theater in Pomona, CA on December 19th, 2014. Malice X features the original lineup of Ryan Morgan, Branden Morgan, Kyle Johnson, Stu Ross, and Jesse Zaraska.
Bassist Kyle Johnson had this to say: “After doing the first run of the Malice X dates I think it made us realize just how important it was for kids to be able to see this version of Misery Signals. So many had missed it in its original incarnation. There seemed to be a bit of an outcry that we didn’t include California as a destination on the last run. We managed to find a weekend in December that worked out so we jumped at the opportunity.”
Along with the special appearance in California, Misery Signals will be joined by seminal hardcore band, Taken, to the show as direct support. Vocalist Ray Harkins commented:
“I wish Misery Signals was around when Taken was regularly touring. When I first listened to their demo/EP I felt an immediate kinship to what they were doing, blending heavy music and melodic guitar into something unique. A few months later, the guitarist Stu Ross sent a very heartfelt and sincere email about how much Taken had meant to him. From that point on a friendship was formed and I continued to love what Misery Signals did throughout their musical career. We can’t wait to hit the stage with these guys for the first time, and hopefully not the last.” More...

Representing a metal publication, that would normally count me right out. But then again, I’ve always held the firm belief that the best way to be a metal fan is to be a rock fan first. Without doing so, you’re building your factory on a foundation of silly putty.
And once in a while, an act springs up that simultaneously embraces and defies conventions of both genres. This is the sweet spot, the perfect ingredient for a rousing evening on the town.
After all, the three young Finns surrounding me at the small steakhouse restaurant table appear to have just bumped into one another by accident earlier this afternoon and started jamming.
The diversity of backgrounds and influences, the casual indifference to excessive image, the refusal to acknowledge stylistic boundaries - all these things combine to form a rock sound that’s alternative in the truest sense, an identity as elusive as it is distinct.
This is Helsinki’s Face Of God, and they’re telling me their story.

Heavy metal musician, author, and television personality Scott Ian recently announced a special one-off west coast “Speaking Words” performance, taking place at Los Angeles nightclub Largo next Friday, October 10th.
The event will also serve as Scott’s official “I’m the Man: The Story of That Guy from Anthrax” (Da Capo Press, October 2014) book release party and signing. Doors open at 7:00PM, the show begins at 8:00PM, and tickets are available at this location.
Scott comments: “This is my first west coast talking show and it's at the mecca for comedy in LA, Largo. I've been going to shows at Largo since the late 90's where I'd see people like Patton Oswalt, Louis CK, David Cross, Bob Odenkirk, Brian Posehn, Sarah Silverman, Zach Galifianakis, and Tenacious D before they were famous. They all still go back there to do shows and I am honored, excited and shitting myself to be doing my show on that stage."
This performance previews the upcoming release of "Swearing Words in Glasgow," Scott’s “Speaking Words” full performance DVD, filmed during the first leg of his tour in Glasgow, Scotland. To pre-order the DVD or for more information, visit the PledgeMusic campaign page right here. More...
Ripple Music couldn't be more excited to announce that the label has paired up with Weed Is Weed - featuring stoner/doom royalty from Sprit Caravan, Pentagram and Earthride - to release the vinyl version of the debut album, "Blunt Force Trauma."
Originally recorded by the band and sold on a very small scale only at live shows, Ripple Music has now packaged this onslaught of acrid-haze stoner heaviness for mass consumption on October 14th. The label comments:
"Years of seismic rumbling have led way to the tectonic formation that is Weed Is Weed. Two legendary masters of Maryland doom, Dave 'Sherm" Sherman and Gary Isom, comewith a stoner/doom metal pedigree second to none. Sherm and Gary have been the creative catalysts in such genre defining bands as Pentagram, Earthride, and Spirit Caravan, and now they launch their newest, blazing heavy rock venture. Having assembled their most blazing line-up ever, this group of musicians have crafted the perfect sound track for red-eyed blazers the world over Blunt Force Trauma, which was originally released in January 2013. Blitzed out, stoned heaviness is the order as this collection of tales of reefer madness and alligator fights is slated to be released on vinyl in October by Ripple Music.
"Sherm is completely shredding the vocals, undoubtedly turning in his best performance to date, as he is more than ably backed by the rip and tear of the triple-guitar attack courtesy of Gary on slide & lead guitar teamed up with Jason Fisher and Rob Portillo's riffing and rolling. Match that with the full on rhythmic assault of Darren Waters on bass, and the single moniker'd Cougin on drums, and this band is ready to pummel the unsuspecting ear drums of those about to burn."
Weed Is Weed consists of:
Dave Sherman - Lead Vocals/ Guitar
Jason Fisher - Guitar
Darren Waters - Bass Guitar
Rob Portillo - Guitar
Gary Isom - Lead/ Slide Guitar
Cougin - Percussion

Hardcore punk band Old Lines is streaming a new song called “Paint Them Gold” today, which can be heard below thanks to MetalInjection.net.
The track is featured on upcoming record "No Child Left Behind," which is due out on October 14th. Fans can pre-order the album now at this location.
“Paint Them Gold” is about how large corporations manipulate people into accepting a quick buck or a short term fix while ignoring the big picture,” says vocalist Matt Taylor. “Energy companies are buying up farmland all over the country to start fracking operations, and doing so by taking advantage of struggling families with empty promises of fixing their financial situation. Inevitably, Capitalism will always win and the farmers will lose more and more until they are left with nothing. This song is a plea for all of us to start considering the damage that will come from looking for an easy way out, and a battle cry to end the cooperation with those who would sooner destroy our earth than help anything that lives on it.” More...

"The addition of Steve Burns and Jeff Boisvert on vocals has given BornBroken a new dimension as we move forward. Today Kenn Nardi reveals the artwork, track listing, and a new song from his upcoming solo album "Dancing With The Past." Album artist, Eliran Kantor, had this to say about his latest piece conceived and created for the album:
"I was never so emotionally invested on an album before, but how often do you get to work on what shaped up to be one of your favorite records? Only a handful released in the last decade made that list - maybe.
"This is the 'second first album' musicians never make, as the saying goes 'you puts 20 years worth of inspiration into the 1st record, but then only 1-3 years into each subsequent one.' And even if a debut record is a bit inexperienced, it always has an unmatched fire 20+ years in the making, which is how long it's been since Anacrusis' swansong - 1993's 'Screams & Whispers'.
"I couldn't find a single uninspired moment on Kenn's 28 song double-album. I love it and urge every metal fan to check it out."
New album "Dancing With The Past" will be released via Divebomb Records on January 13th, 2015. You can hear the songs "Made" and the title track below, and the full track listing is as follows: More...

French metal act Grorr has signed a record deal with ViciSolum, and the band's new album ”The Unknown Citizens” will be released worldwide November 14th, 2014.
The album is based on a poem by W.H. Auden and relates the fate of three ordinary citizens. Auden writes ”Were they free? Were they happy? The question is absurd; if something was wrong, we would have known for sure.” The album takes a closer look at that question.
Once again through this three-part work, Grorr writes a new social fable that deals with common people forgotten by history. This new album tells the story of three different lives imprinted with three different atmospheres. Grorr announces a darker opus but at the same time more melodic.
The new songs ”The Fighter – Pandemonium” and ”The Dreamer – Unique” can be heard below. The track listing is as follows: More...
The British avant-garde metallers from Code have begun the tracking process for their forthcoming fourth full-length album at Brighton Electric Studios (Gary Moore, Nick Cave, Saxon) in England.
"It will be a bold and challenging album that will be sure to test preconceptions again," comments the band. The album is scheduled to be completed at the end of October and is set for release on Agonia Records in early 2015. This album will follow previous release "Augur Nox" (reviewed here).
Photos from the studio can be seen at Facebook here. With varied musical backgrounds of the band's members and a will for experimentation, Code confronts the conventional metal and rock patterns with its own take on extreme music.
As put by Metal Injection, the band "blends the grim aggression of black metal and crosses the North Sea back into the world of stylish progressive rock."
