Prosthetic Records is pleased to announce the signing of Iceland’s dissonant punk / indie-noise quartet, Muck. The label comments:
"Muck is a fresh and urgent export from the vibrant Icelandic creative underground. Formed back in Reykjavík in 2007 as young scholars of all things raw and heavy, the band has organically crafted a riotous sound from hardcore roots and throughout several EPs and the ‘Slaves’ LP back in 2012.
"Muck have learnt their art through frenetic live performances, equally happy at no-holes-barred DIY punk shows and experimental performance art events. They’ve toured the European underground clubs with Denmark’s Hexis and Whorls, broadened their horizons across the US with performances alongside Ceremony, Castevet, and Citizen’s Arrest and found themselves invited to perform at New York’s art residency, Clocktower in Lower Manhattan. Closer to home, they’ve also commanded a premium slot at the prestigious Eistnaflug Festival and been a serious highlight at the Icelandic Airwaves events over the past few years.
"Returning to the studio with Icelandic producer, Fridrik Helgason, they recorded their brand new album 'Your Joyous Future' and Alan Douches (Converge, Baroness, The Dismemberment Plan) completed the mastering. Upon hearing the new opus, Prosthetic Records were keen to sign the band and the pact was signed. Venomous, forward-thinking and discordant, 'Your Joyous Future' will be released by Prosthetic in February 2015." More...
When Dave Brockie died earlier this year, many fans of Gwar (bohabs as the group calls them_ wondered if the band would continue. Gwar is a large collection of artists and musicians, but Brockie played Oderus Urungus, the voice of the galactic space outfit.
Gwar is a joke that just can’t be stopped and the circus continued at the 5th Annual GWAR B-Q. There the band welcomed new members Blothar and Vulvatron. Blothar is a fat, filthy space Viking who enjoys ice fishing and ritualistic murder. Vulvatron is genetically engineered Scumdog assassin from the future. She has her own line of signature drag-racing motor oils, Vulvoline.
The Scumdogs are currently on the road as part of the “Gwar Eternal Tour 2014.” When the group showed up at the Housecore Horror Film Fest in Austin, Texas, I found Mike Bishop, aka Blothar in the press area enjoying Rudy’s BBQ. It didn't take long for him to get into his beserker character. In the following interview, the cordial Bishop, formerly Beefcake The Mighty, provides insight into the band's newest vocalist without accepting a single yam for his time. More...

Upon its inception in 2013, Opus of a Machine has been stripping away the macho pretenses of modern metal. The band's debut, "Simulacra," is fast, energetic, expressive, and emotive.
Due out November 16th, you can check out two tracks below, and pre-orders are available at this location. The following press release was also issued about the band:
"Taking with them the raw conviction of bands separate from the zeitgeist of progressive rock, Opus of a Machine bends the traditional, stares down the barrel of experimentation and explores sonic landscapes too fearful for most.
"Formed in 2012, Opus of a Machine began as a labour of love for guitarist Zac Greensill and vocalist/guitarist Mitchell Legg, who over a large period of growth, laid the foundations for their debut LP. With bassist Dale Prinsse and drummer Trevor Gee joining in mid 2013, the energy and passion that lifts their recorded work made it's way to the live arena. Following a string of successful, high-intensity live shows with the likes of Caligula’s Horse, Jericco, Guards of May, Mass Sky Raid, The Orchard and other outstanding bands throughout 2014 in anticipation of their debut album, Opus of a Machine is forging a path onto the Australian and international stage.
"With influences such as Opeth, Tool, Radiohead, Devin Townsend, Karnivool, Metallica, Dead Letter Circus, TesseracT, Thirty Seconds to Mars, A Perfect Circle, 12 Foot Ninja, Oceansize, Rage Against the Machine, Voyager, Alter Bridge, Katatonia, and many others, Opus of a Machine is a limitless exploration of the vigour and intensity of metal fused with the subtleties of experimental rock." In an ode to industrial farming and the animal cruelty that goes alongside it, one man army Foul Body Autopsy has released an explicit new music video for the title track from forthcoming EP "So Close To Complete Dehumanization."
"The video was shot in the attic where I work," laughs founder Tom Reynolds as he explains how his employer lets him make death metal videos. "The video follows the concept of the EP which is to shine a light on the routine cruelty that goes on in industrial farming. The song itself is about how people can turn a blind eye to the suffering that goes on in industrial farming and how it is destroying the environment, people's health, the animals and finally the mental health of the workers in the factory farms."
"So Close To Complete Dehumanization" is out today - November 4th - via Grindscene Records and the track listing is:
1. So Close To Complete Dehumanization
2. Born In To A Manmade Hell More...
Silent Planet will release "The Night God Slept" via Solid State Records on November 10th. Garrett Russell, vocalist of the Los Angeles based sextet, comments:
"There is a constant discussion between those who study theosophy (the philosophy dealing with the nature of divinity) about if there is a God, how can God allow so much evil to happen? Writers throughout time have suggested, in poetic terms, that the state of universal chaos and moral entropy leaves us only to assume that God may have simply 'fallen asleep.'"
Lyrically, Russell (a self-professed history nerd who holds a Master’s Degree in clinical psychology) acts like a theosophist who seeks to understand the bonds that unite humanity and the divine. On "The Night God Slept" and the previously released "Lastsleep (1944-1946)" EP the main lyrical thrust is songs told through the eyes of women protagonists throughout history.
Spanning from the dawn of time (“First Mother Lillith") to the bombing of Hiroshima Japan (“Darkstrand Hibakusha") to the modern day crisis of Sex trafficking in America (“XX City Grave"), the validity of these tales are reinforced by Russell’s choice to add source footnotes that further the literary experience of the album by citing historical and literary references.
Speaking on this direction Russell says, “We see a lot of cultural misogyny in music, certainly in heavy music. Women in heavy music are caught in a binary - they are either written as a ‘good’ moral, ideal woman or a ‘bad’ sinful, tempting woman - but almost never written from their own perspective. What links all of the women in our songs is that they ultimately have to make difficult decisions under the systemic oppression of their coercive ruling forces. Forces which include government, authority figures and the society they live in.” More...
After Emperor reunited for a run of 20th anniversary shows, Ihsahn is back working on new solo material and will apparently no longer be using the members of Leprous as his backing band. Ihsahn had this to say:
"Back on track with new music and new live shows!
"First of all, the 'In the Nightside Eclipse' 20th anniversary shows with Emperor have been a big priority for me in 2014 and I would like to thank everyone on stage, behind the stage and in front of the stage for making this celebration such a great experience!
"Also, a special thanks to Ibanez Guitars, Blackstar Amplification, Rotosound Music Strings and Norsk Musikk Distribusjon for all the continued support on the road!
"Now, this has not kept me entirely busy for the whole year, so since January I’ve also been writing material for the next Ihsahn album, partly interrupted by rehearsals, shows and a total rebuild of our studio.
"On the live front, several shows are all ready announced for 2015, and I’m excited to tell you that I’ll be back on stage with a new, handpicked line-up that I am confident will take my songs to a new dimension.
"On that note, I’d like to thank Leprous for a fantastic collaboration over many years!! They have been invaluable in getting my songs to the stage and we’ve had some great trips around the world. Maybe now we’ll actually get to watch each other’s shows
"That’s it from an autumn-dressed Telemark……Now, to the batcave!"
The forthcoming solo album from Ihsahn will follow last year's "Das Seelenbrechen" (reviewed here), an experimental release that saw the musician going in a very different direction from previous albums. More...

On our night, we got to share the stage with Spiritual Shepard, Take Over & Destroy, and The Atlas Moth. The camaraderie from the whole fest to the bands to the staff to the fans was fantastic. Finnish rock / metal band Concrete Swine will enter the studio in February of 2015 to record new material for an upcoming release.
The band's previous EP "Brezhnev's Cocktail" was released in 2013 and can be heard in full at this location.
That previous release was recorded by Jani Loikas at Cursed studio in Hyvinkää, Finland and mixed by Paul Bento (Type O Negative, Carnivore) at Beak Owl Sound Studio in New York. Mastering was handled by Maor Appelbaum (Sepultura, Halford, Yngwie Malmsteen, Adrenaline Mob, Queensryche) in Los Angeles. Harmonica on the EP was played by one of Finland's top blues musicians Ismo Haavisto while hammond was played by Tomi Korpela from Vinum Sabbatum.

Napalm Death and Voivod will join forces at the end of January for a North American Tour aptly titled "Through Space And Grind."
Napalm Death is set to release "Apex Predator - Easy Meat" on January 27 right after returning from the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise and the night the Through Space And Grind tour starts. The band comments:
"As a celebration of both the unconventional and more straight-out methods of musical attack, I think this tour line-up really hits home. To think that 30 years ago I was marveling at the savage eccentricities of 'War and Pain' and now I'm sharing stage / living space with Snake, Away and co...surreal, almost. From Napalm's perspective, we'll bring the overdrive to the spaciness - it's all going to rage whichever way you slice it."
Voivod released latest album "Target Earth" in 2013 and took a brief hiatus, now back with a new bass player and healthy vocal chords. Voivod had this to say:
"I am psyched to tour North America with Napalm Death, for which i always had a huge respect. We crossed path over the years and finally we'll get to unite Voivod's spacy Thrash Metal with Napalm's Grindcore. A perfect combination!!" More...

The album is described as: "[c]atchy riffs, raw whiskey-drinker vocals similar to those from Brian Johnson, a driving rhythm section, gives CRUIZZEN some AC/DC touch. Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon, Star One, Guilt Machine) & Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering, Devin Townsend Project) have joined forces for new band The Gentle Storm, and they have now revealed the cover artwork for the debut album "The Diary," which is due out early next year.
Arjen had this to say:
"I loved the front cover of the last Stream of Passion album, so I tracked down the cover artist, Alexandra V. Bach. I sent her some samples of the The Gentle Storm music, and explained the album concept. She made a moodboard that captured the feel of the story and the music. We then gave her the go-ahead to design the cover. She did an amazing job that exceeded our expectations: Alexandra's cover art represents The Gentle Storm perfectly!"
Having originally worked together back in 1998 on Ayreon's album 'Into The Electric Castle', and reconvening again for the seventh Ayreon album '01011001', The Gentle Storm sees the duo collaborate for a full double-album that will see the light of day next year. Anneke will also take the music on the road in 2015, backed by a band of Dutch musicians; however Arjen himself will not take part.

Multi-instrumentalist Aaron Coker (ex-Appleseed Cast, Reggie & The Full Effect) reinvents the traditional interpretation of a band, hand-picking a rotating cast of fellow colleagues to collaborate on Sisters of… material. The result is layers of post-rock, metal, and experimental elements building evocative soundscapes that expand beyond the conventional themes of life and death.
The forthcoming contains eight epic tracks that build and expand upon the sound that was introduced in the band's 2013 debut "Follow Me As A Ghost." The upcoming full-length will see Chris Clark joining on to write/record with Aaron Coker on guitars, as well as long time friend Josh Newton (ex Every Time I Die, Shiner, Unsane) on guitars/bass.
Sisters of... mastermind Aaron Coker also comments: "With our new record we really wanted to take more chances in expanding our sound from where we started with our EP. To go even further with our aggressive side, and to explore any ideas we had with melody and beauty. With us having such diverse tastes in what we listen to and write, we came away blown away with what we could come up with if we just gave every idea an honest chance." More...
