Kenn Nardi Releases New Solo Album

Kenn Nardi - guitarist/vocalist/producer and chief writer for Anacrusis from 1986-1993 - went the solo route under the Cruel April moniker in 2006, weaving acoustically-driven material that was free of any genre expectations looming over his head.

On his new album, "Dancing With The Past," Kenn Nardi has brought together all of the signature elements of Anacrusis’ sound, and melded them with the more streamlined songwriting approach of Cruel April. The result is a 2-CD collection featuring 28 brand new recordings of songs written as far back as 1994.

The collection also features material borne from collaborations with Kenn Nardi’s former Anacrusis band mates during their 2009-2012 reunion run. You can order your own copy at this location, and hear most of the tracks in the player below. The full track listing is:

Wardruna And More Confirmed For Roadburn

Roadburn is very pleased to announce Wovenhand, Russian Circles, Wardruna, and a second Enslaved performance among the latest additions to the 20th edition line up of the festival, which will take place in April 2015. The festival organizers had this to say:

"Wovenhand’s incendiary performance at Roadburn 2011 remains one of the most talked-about shows in the festival’s history, and it’s a great pleasure to have David Eugene Edwards and his band back at the festival for what should be another thrilling, transformative concert. The band will reignite the 013 stage as the headline act on Thursday April 9.

"Led by former 16 Horsepower frontman Edwards, Wovenhand similarly delves deep into the darker, more gothic side of Americana, only on a much more personal, introspective level. The latest album ‘Refractory Obdurate’ is the band’s most visceral work yet, with its heavier arrangements packing a devastating punch.

"Already veterans of Roadburn, Chicago instrumental trio Russian Circles will return to the 20th edition of Roadburn Festival for a much anticipated main stage performance on Thursday, April 9, filling the main hall with their spacious, tonally lavish sound. More...

HI-GH Releasing "Till Death And After"

Metal on Metal Records has announced that HI-GH's "Till Death and After" CD will be out on November 14th. The label comments:

"On their second album these Italian speed metal maniacs still show their enthusiasm and unrestrained energy with some punk influences and attitude. Their style is raw and gritty, but at the same time more than just competent technically, and their classic heavy metal inspirations are even more audible now.

"They also paid tribute to their past, covering 'German Metal Attack,' a song of Hastighed, which was a black/thrash band of the vocalist/bassist Tommaso "Slowly" before he formed HI-GH. According to the label, old school metalheads, and especially fans of Motorhead, Exciter, Judas Priest, early Metallica, early Slayer, Tank, Inepsy, Midnight, and G.B.H. are in for a real treat here."

"Also limited to 200 copies, Endless Hate & Misanthropy unleashes every bit of the old-school worship we could possibly have wanted from Orcultus.

Fun Fun Fun Fest Day 3: Rock & Hardcore

Past Fun Fun Fun Festivals that I covered featured one or two metal headliners on the black stage and one day dominated by punk. This year the third day of the festival included punk but rock in general was the main flavor of the day. Metal was not the style closing out the Black Stage, but headliner Murder City Devils played hard and heavy. There is something about this band that just fits with the festival, as the Seattle-based band made it’s third appearance. The garage rock group played powerful hooks and electric organ that sounded like The Doors making a soundtrack for a Hammer Horror film. I believe this was their first headline performance at FFF. The band was definitely up to it.

Spook The Horses Announces New Album

New Zealand post-metal/hardcore outfit Spook The Horses just finished work on sophomore album "Rainmaker," which is being prepped for release in mid-Winter, 2015.

The band's epic suites are imbued with strings, brass, synthesizers and nuanced guitar (the lineup including three guitarists). The tone of the band's new record "Rainmaker" signifies an evolution from the dense trio of guitars that defined the 2011-released debut album, "Brighter," into the arid and spacious; a descent to the dry, desperate earth.

"Rainmaker" was tracked live at studio Wellington by James Goldsmith (So So Modern, Die! Die! Die!), mixed in Melbourne, Australia by Sam Sproull (Shihad, Cairo Knife Fight, Gatherer) and mastered in Stockholm, Sweden by renowned engineer Magnus Lindberg (Cult of Luna, The Ocean, Kongh).

"With this first album, Animus Mortis positioned itself among the most recognized Chilean black metal bands abroad. During 2008 and the first quarter of 2010, the band evaluated many backup musicians with the purpose to cover live shows with international bands, gigs across Chile, and along the way, made different recordings. Ingested To Release New Album

2015 will see Ingested return with "The Architect of Extinction,” mixed by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy) and featuring artwork from Toshihiro Egawa. The album will be released January 12th on Century Media Records in Europe.

Jason Evans (vocals) comments: "It took us three albums and two EP's to find our sound, our identity as a band. This album is Ingested in it's purest form; nihilistic, slamming death metal. Every lyric, guitar riff and drum beat on this album is delivered with utter sincerity, we fucking mean it this time. This is the album we have always wanted to create, this is The Architect Of Extinction.

"Once again we enlisted the amazing art talents of Toshihiro Egawa, who we worked with on our debut album 'Surpassing the Boundaries of Human Suffering' to produce yet another stunning, brutal masterpiece to compliment the audio assault we've captured on disc. This album was mixed by Christian Donaldson (Beneath the Massacre, The Last Felony and Cryptopsy) and features guest appearances by Julian Kersey (Aegaeon), Taylor Wientjes (The Kennedy Veil), James Schuster (Eighty Thousand Dead / Delusional Parasitosis) and Alex Terible (Slaughter To Prevail ) who have contributed their very own brand of brutality to this record. This is our most definitive work to date and we can't wait to unleash it on the world.”

Level 10 Featuring Russell Allen Announces Debut

Level 10, the new band featuring Symphony X frontman Russell Allen and Primal Fear/Sinner bassist Mat Sinner, announced the impending release of the debut album "Chapter One." The album is set to drop via Frontiers Records srl on January 23rd (EU) and January 27th (North America).

"Chapter One" features 12 songs described as "a true Metal style, with a distinctly contemporary edge." Level 10 was born out of a collaboration between Allen and Sinner, who met a few times during the years and swore to each other to find the time to work together. That occasion finally came about when Frontiers President, Serafino Perugino managed to connect with the two and get them committed to the creation of a new metal album which could meld the more contemporary and aggro sound of Adrenaline Mob with the more traditional European power metal assault of Primal Fear.

Sinner quickly put together a killer lineup for the album, including his Primal Fear cohorts Randy Black (on drums) and Alex Beyrodt (on guitar) and called Roland Grapow (ex-Helloween) and Alessandro Del Vecchio (Hardline, Voodoo Circle) to complete the lineup on lead guitar and keyboards respectively. On the songwriting side – besides the band members – the album also sees contributions from Magnus Karlsson, Carsten Schulz, Sander Gommans and Amanda Somerville.

While the actual recording took a long time due to the “day job” commitments from the various musicians involved in this release, the result is an outstanding and super heavy – yet infectiously melodic - album! With Allen’s over-the-top vocals and a powerful lineup second to none, the resulting album is – from start to finish a true delight for all heavy metal fans!

“The target was to write and record a traditional and powerful heavy rock album with some of the best players in this genre” says Sinner. “The result is just amazing. Russell’s voice is in a fantastic shape, kick ass songs and I’m really proud of the album!”. More...
