ViciSolum Productions has signed a world wide record deal with Finnish doom/post-mtetal act Oceanwake. ViciSolum comments:
"The band's debut album 'Kingdom' gathered positive, in some cases even raving reviews. It captured very well the essence of their formative years, when they naturally were a new band in search of their own form of expression. In retrospect, 'Kingdom' was a compilation of very diverse songs that the band managed to turn into a coherent album.
"This time around, with their forthcoming album 'Sunless,' that will be released on the 13th of March 2015 via ViciSolum Productions, the songwriting is far more together but not any less adventurous. Its four lengthy and dynamic compositions are performed in an inspired and versatile manner. And when this is combined with the crystal clear, flawless engineering and production – courtesy of Korpiklaani mainman Jonne Järvelä – it is safe to say that anyone who appreciates an organic full-length album should buy a copy, and give it the undivided time and focus it deserves.
"To celebrate this new record deal, an album sessions outtake 'Nadir' will be released as a digital single. Not seen by the band as an integral part of the album, with its slightly heavier sound and a straightforward arrangement, 'Nadir' is indeed quite different from other material. Nevertheless, it stands out as a great example of the musical diversity and dynamics of Oceanwake." More...
Last week Swiss folk metal band Eluveitie announced the departure of Patrick (Päde) Kistler, and now he has checked in with the following statement about the parting of ways:
"So the latest news from the Eluveitie camp is spread for a couple of days now. In this time I got a huge amount of messages where i constantly get asked about the why and how. So instead of responding to each person seperately i would like to settle a statement myself about my leave from Eluveitie. Neither was it my desire nor my decision to leave the Band.
"After incredible 6 and a half years of a with lots of experiences on the road, personal issues increased within the past 12 months in my life as well as in the Eluveitie hood. I have been going through some personal difficulties and changes in my life that also affected the relationship to some band members and my ability to fulfill the expectations (no, no addiction problem and they are solved in the meantime). So this all got more exaggerated within the past stressful months of the album production and intensive touring. In the end the majority of the band decided to expel me from the Eluveitie hood by a democratic vote, we're still very Swiss.
"Of course this isn't easy at all to get along with and more so to accept that those people I spent almost more time together throughout the past years than with any other person in my life, wanted me to leave. I have been dedicated to this project Eluveitie not only with spending a big amount of my attention, more so about all that makes Eluveitie unique and outstanding: the storytelling of history. Therefore I take the right to adjust Eluveities current album 'Origins' epigraph: 'We need to know were we come from to know who we are.' In that sense I wish the project Eluveitie all the best for it's future and I hope that Chrigel can go on with his dream for a long time. Some others might have forgotten that a band is not a 'Blue-Chip' company with radical human resource politics, it's a band that lives from the individuals, vibes and the dedication each one provides in it's very own way to the greater whole. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are a point of much contention among the metal community (with its overall disdain for consumerism, commercial whoring, and conformity) - so much so that every year Daniel Vrangsinn's (Carpathian Forest) label Misantrof even releases the "Holy Fucking ANTIChristmas" compilation in December.
Despite that, many of the underground labels do offer sales and discounts the week of Thanksgiving, so if you're looking to get some quality metal, hardcore, or rock releases on a budget, this is the time to do it - and most of it is online or digital in nature, so as a bonus, you don't have to get stomped to death by a horde of deal hunters at 5 AM!
More links will be added throughout the week as labels and distros announce their various sales, so check back in often.
If actually buying music in physical format (and especially on vinyl) is more your thing than ordering online, then RECORD STORE DAY has compiled a handy list just for you of limited run, exclusive, or Black Friday-first releases only available in stores. Peruse the full list over here.
For the digital music junkies, AMAZON.COM has dozens of $5 digital hard rock and metal albums from bands like Arch Enemy, In This Moment, White Zombie, Lamb Of God, Chimaira, and many more. The deals run through the full month of November. More...

Chilean band Crisalida is currently adding the final touches to fourth full-length album "Terra Ancestral," due to be released somewhere between March/April of 2015.
Crisalida has brought on Anathema's Daniel Cardoso to produce "Terra Ancestral,” which was recorded at Tierra Studios. Drummer Rodrigo "Atilio" Sánchez comments:
“Right now we are on a very good position with Crisalida, we are playing live very often, not only in our home country but in the neighbor countries as well, the fans knows us very well because of our past recordings and videos, and we have managed to built a very solid fan following.
"But despite all of that we really wanted for this new album to do something very, very special, and that's why we hired Daniel Cardoso to do the job. We rented one of the most expensive studios here in South America and we filmed everything related to the recording and production process to, soon enough, release it as a documentary and beside all that we are also already working on two video clips.
"We expect that this album to be our breaking point for Crisalida, we strongly believe on the songs we have recorded and that we have a powerful message, a message that beside the language barrier (yes, we are stubborn enough to continue singing in Spanish), we are fully decided that we are capable to conquer with our music." The sounds were so good we decided to do something we'd been threatening for many years: 'Party Killers' - a collection of cover tunes guaranteed to deafen yer neighbors!! It's basically a peek into the little red 45rpm singles box we used to have at home...songs and bands that were very influential to us as kids, but given the Raven overhaul! I think it gives a nice insight to our roots and will be an excellent companion to the new album!"

Although plagued with various issues, at last "Einkehr" is upon us, and it is a starling work of shadow-draped mystery. Skinner was formed from the fallout of the now defunct American power/thrash band Imagika in late 2010.
Today the band drops a new music video for "Orphans of Liberty," which is the second single off the "Sleepwalkers" album. Check it out below. Dead Inside Records comments:
"The song is a salute to the men & women of the US armed forces that have served or are currently serving their country. The track features Skinner’s signature triple lead guitar attack delivered with precision by father\son team Robert Kolowitz & Grant Kolowitz, and rounded out by shredder Alfred San Miguel. Combine that with a fast hard hitting rhythm section featuring Noe Luna (Drums) & Jim Pegram (Bass) the end result is a high energy metal track that will get any head bangers attention. Vocalist Norman Skinner never disappoints and delivers yet another spectacular vocal performance in this passionate power\thrash anthem.
"The video directed by Mike Sloat (Testament\Machine Head) is a live\lyric video hybrid and features live footage of Skinner recorded at The Annex in San Lorenzo, CA mixed with photographs of American soldiers submitted by fans from around the world."
Vocalist Norman Skinner comments on the video concept: “When I wrote the song I wanted to give a true heart felt nod to the men and women of our armed forces. I realize, as do many others, that they do not have a choice of where they are sent or what their orders are. They are simply soldiers working and fighting to protect our freedom.
"Just because we may not endorse or believe in the reasons our government has sent them where they are does not mean we shouldn't support our troops. If you don’t support them then they are Orphans of Liberty. When coming up with ideas for the video it only seemed appropriate to reach out to our fans and ask them to submit photos of their friends & family members that had served or are currently serving in the military. They came through and it is those real images that make this video great in our opinion.” More...

Elaborates the band, "It was really about time, right? This far down the road, we finally made our first video eight albums in. So we trusted Gareth Averill and crew who also made our DVD [All Empires Fall] a couple of years back. The traditional band-jamming-in-a-warehouse scenario was not something that entered our heads.

"Overall, the video is epic and cinematic in scope, just like the song. So shut down all of your other computer windows and focus squarely on Soen's 'The Words' video. Allow it to take you on a beautiful and anything-but-simple black and white journey, both visually and musically." More...

I was unsure of what to expect from a band with roots in death/doom metal, who have so effectively managed to transition and grow over the years into an entity that truly emphasized the word “progressive.” However, it’s always best to expect the unexpected so we showed up early and in plenty of time to spend way too many euros at the merch stand and went on our merry way inside! Northern Irish Rockers The Answer announced that they have re-signed with Napalm Records. The band released their last album "New Horizon" in September 2013 to critical acclaim and has just finished work on the sophomore record entitled "Raise a Little Hell." The album will be released on March 6th (GSA/Benelux), March 9th (UK and Europe) and March 10th (North America).
Lead vocalist Cormac Neeson commented, “We’re delighted to be extending our relationship with the Napalm family and look forward to great times ahead! During summer 2014 we hightailed ourselves down to Madrid to record our new album with long time friend and producer, Will Maya. Our time in Spain represents one of the most productive and enjoyable chapters in The Answer’s colourful history. Our new album ‘Raise A Little Hell’ comes from deep down inside. We brought the blues, the swagger and soul back into the studio and emerged from it with an album that encapsulates our unabated love for making the music we make. We’re all incredibly proud and thrilled with this record!”
Portuguese dark metallers Heavenwood released another pre-production demo track from the upcoming new album "The Tarot Of The Bohemians - Part I." Check out the song "The Empress" in the player below. Earlier this month, the band launched a crowdfunding campaign to assist with the production of the release. Information on the various perk packages can be found over at this location.
The concept of the new release was inspired by Papus aka Gerard Encausse (July 13, 1865 - October 25, 1916), the Spanish-born French physician and hypnotist who popularized occultism and founded the modern Martinist Order.

The scene in question also contains an apparent nod to Chuck Schuldiner in the form of a character named after the late Death front man.
"Elementary" stars Jonny Lee Miller as detective Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson in a modern-day drama about a crime-solving duo that cracks NYPD's most impossible cases.
