Housecore Horror Film Festival 2015 Day One

Philip H. Anselmo brought his third installment of his Housecore Horror Film Festival to San Antonio this year. Many hearts were heavy as this was the first festival that founder Corey Mitchell didn’t have his thumb under. Mitchell died at the end of last year’s festival.

The first two years were held at Emo’s and Midway Field house in Austin. This time the Aztec Theater and Korova hosted the metallic mayhem. Less than a block down the street the film festival occupied the 7th floor of the Holiday Inn San Antonio River Walk. The Korova is a few blocks further. All venues took place in San Antonio’s historic river walk district. When not accosting their ear drums with brutal metal, fans, especially those from out of state, took a stroll down the River Walk. Joel Grind from Toxic Holocaust was one of those fans in attendance. More...

Withered Signs With Season Of Mist

Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of American dark extremists Withered, with a new full-length due out in 2016. Regarding the signing, Withered comments:

"We are proud to work with a label like Season of Mist, which is truly committed to supporting extreme metal. WITHERED's character and passion will be well represented by the Season of Mist team. After three years of evolution, our breath has deepened to fuel our musical exploration, and our growth, past the most brutal of expectations. We'll see YOU on tour soon!"

Withered was formed by Mike Thompson and Chris Freeman in Atlanta, Georgia in 2003 when their long running crust/grind band Social Infestation went on an indefinite hiatus. Moving away from social awareness, the duo turned to explore the vastness of humanity's capacity for suffering. Wes Kever (Puaka Balava) was recruited on drums and Greg Hess (Leech Milk) on bass.

The band released an untitled 3-song demo and immediately began touring the Eastern U.S. followed by debut album "Memento Mori" in late 2005. Wes and Greg left on good terms and were replaced by local musicians Mike Longoria and Beau Brandon (Waited).

After more touring, sophomore full-length "Folie Circulaire" came out in 2008, entering darker realms by combining Scandinavian black and death metal elements with the crust/grind heritage. Dylan Kilgore (Waited) stepped in for Chris Freeman, who could not proceed with the band's heavy touring schedule. More...

Aktaion Streams New Track Online

Swedish modern death metal group Aktaion is back already after the triumph of debut album "Throne" earlier this year. While that record was a synth-laden romp through progressive-tinged melodic death metal, the band takes a new direction with the song “Seven.”

Vocalist Jonas Snäckmark in particular is in full vitriol, shredding his chords in the name of venting his anger. The song is taken off the band's upcoming album "The Parade Of Nature." Listen in below.

If you missed Aktaion's previously released "Throne" album, the full disc is still online for streaming at this location. More...

Eyes Front North Signs With Argonauta Records

Argonauta Records has inked a record deal with French blackened post metal outfit Eyes Front North. The label comments:

"In 2010, after several years playing in the French metal band Ambryo, Lionel Forest (vocals/guitar), Nicolas Simon (guitar) and Victor Turhan (bass) decided to create a studio project called to explore new directions. They composed a lot and succeeded in developing a dark, hypnotic and deeply evocative music.

"The band worked 2 years with Conny Petterson from Swedish death metal band Anata as session drummer. They released together an EP - which received great reviews from all over the world - and a split 7" with French progressive metal band The Black Noodle Project available here.

"In 2013, the time came to rehearse and to play live, so the band recruited Xavier Domergue as a real drummer. This new musician brought something very unique that gave EFN new horizons. The new album is scheduled to be released by spring 2016, mixed and mastered by Jack Shirley at the Atomic Garden in San Francisco."

The band says: “Hi Folks! We, the 4 of Eyes Front North - known as Lionel, Nicolas, Victor and Xavier - are very proud and happy to announce that we signed with Italian label Argonauta Records. We are really in a hurry to present you our amazing record, produced by Jack Shirley who worked for Deafheaven. Thanks Gero of Argonauta for your trust!” More...

Guitarist Karl Groom commented on the band's new release: "The 'For The Journey' tour, where we made the live recordings, was much like most recent Threshold dates, in so much as the band thoroughly enjoy gigging and appreciate the support we get from our fans. This is the atmosphere we wanted to capture in our playing and I believe that translates well on this release. The aim in mixing was to keep the integrity of the original performance and that was why we recorded plenty of shows. It is good to be able to present this Threshold line up to people who have not been able to attend gig and it is also a great memory of the tour." More...

Morbid Saint Announces Re-Release

A masterpiece of raw and rabid, deadly thrashing madness is going to return as stunning a reissue in March 2016 via Century Media Records: Morbid Saint's "Spectrum of Death!"

Originally recorded in the late 80's and produced by Eric Greif (Acrophet, Num Skull, Viogression), the 1990 released album by the Wisconsin thrashers offers a vicious and intense mix of early Slayer, Kreator, Dark Angel, and Destruction that has not lost any of its violent impact.

Morbid Saint originally formed in 1984 and shared stages with the likes of Death, Dark Angel, Acrophet, and many more. After a never fully realized second album, the band performed its final show in 1993 and disbanded. Morbid Saint reformed in 2010 and the band has been ravaging stages worldwide since then.

For this release, founding member Jay Visser (guitar) dug deep into his personal archive and excavated tons of rare photos, flyers as well as audio material hardly anyone has ever heard before.

After a series of low-key reissues and shabby bootlegs, "Spectrum of Death" will now be released on vinyl replicating the original sleeve design with an extensive LP-sized booklet telling you the full history of the band. The double CD and digital versions will contain everything Morbid Saint has recorded so far including the rough mix of the unreleased, often bootlegged second album, "Destruction System," various tracks recorded in 2010 and 2012, plus a previously unreleased early 90's demo, of which only 50 copies were ever made.
