The Dayglo Abortions Posts Anti-Harper Song

Canadian punk outfit The Dayglo Abortions just released anti-Stephen Harper song, "Canadian Hate-Triot" courtesy of Unrest Records. The track was recorded at Armoury Studios in Vancouver B.C. with producer Rob Shallcross and can be heard below - and remember, a vote for Harper is a vote for Nickelback!

"Canadian Hate-Triot" will be included on The Dayglo Abortions new release coming in early 2016 and band main man The Cretin (vocals, guitar) had this to say on the topic:

"Occasionally, I get personal in a song, and when I do, it's not going to be complimentary. This is no catchy campaign jingle full of meaningless slogans and empty promises in the hopes of redirecting the voters' gaze away from the many crimes that the Harper government committed while in office.

"No, this is a punk song, blunt as a blackjack. To the point, like a stick in the eye. Stephen Harper and his party have betrayed Canada and our future, by selling our resources to foreign interests and allowing the wholesale rape of some of the last pristine wilderness areas on the planet.

"They are choosing short-term profit over future prosperity, and setting our justice system back to the Middle Ages, not to mention turning the medical marijuana industry into a corporate cash bash. He is nothing more than a towel boy for the corporate gangsters and the international bankers that are ruining our planet. We can do better than this." More...

Sunday Old School: Sacrifice

Thrash metal was truly a phenomenon. Not only did it create legendary scenes in the United States and Germany and give us some of the most beloved metal bands in history, but it spread worldwide, spawning movements in Great Britain, Brazil and of course, Canada. The great white north has brought the world some well respected thrash over the years, including today's featured band, Sacrifice from Toronto.

Sacrifice began when two friends, Rob Urbinati and Joe Rico, both guitar players, decided to form a band, initially playing covers of some of their favourite bands, bringing in bassist, Scott Watts soon afterwards. After bringing in drummer, Craig Boyle and his friend, singer John Baldy, the quintet recorded two demo tapes, which mostly consisted of covers of bands such as Metallica and Judas Priest, with the one original coming in the form of, "Turn in Your Grave." As time went on, Sacrifice developed a heavier sound, with Urbitani taking over the vocalist position as well as seeing a slew of drummers coming through the ranks, before the group settled on Gus Pynn.
