Magic Circle Releasing "Journey Blind"
20 Buck Spin will round out its roster for 2015 with the release of "Journey Blind," the triumphant sophomore LP from Boston-based quintet Magic Circle due out November 20 on CD and digital formats. A vinyl pressing is due out in mid-December. 20 Buck Spin also comments:
"Who said anything about running out of ideas? The stubborn ones were born to linger, to nose out newer, more subtle permutations with the help from a few ragged fucks willing to practice them.
"The Magic Circle mutts roll in heavy metal whatness, striking a balance with the pituitary culture it begat, and the tunes it jacked out. Suburban drag races. Basement bum wine scrum. Every collective thought burnt into a dirty tape dub of Mob Rules. Sabbath, especially in its later incarnations, hulks ephemerally among all openings, rests, and codas.
"When Chris Corry and Dan Ducas' guitars aren't jelly-legging around Iommi, they're rekindling 'Neon Knights,' brandishing 'Die Young' credo. Meanwhile, Q clubs the kit like a drunken Cozy Powell. Brendan Radigan stakes big, black flag in vocal territory long occupied by Saint Vitus, Saxon, Armored Saint, and Trouble. Bassist Justin DeTore alternates creepy crawl and thunder word belch, laying yoke over each tune and driving them prejudicially underground.
"But motherfuck simply 'sounding' like these bands. Magic Circle celebrates them, and in doing so honors the form they have found. It's HEAVY METAL. Hit hard. Write riffs that clack along like rustbucket tanks into perpetuity. Play bass in ways that make you at once inseparable from every punch the drummer lands, and also ghosts every riff -- working beneath, between, behind the rhythm. Sing that fucking story as every ancient did their Homer. It means something. It stands for something. Bring that to the tape. More...
Satan's Satyrs Releasing "Don't Deliver Us"
The bloodcurdling Virginia rock & roll outfit Satan's Satyrs will release new album "Don't Deliver Us" on October 30 via Bad Omen Records.
The trio, featuring bassist / vocalist Clayton Burgess (also of Electric Wizard), guitarist Jarrett Nettnin and drummer Stephen Fairfield, recorded the album in Nashville, TN and calls it, "more stripped down, more raw, and definitely heavier."
"We wanted to recapture the primitive thrust of rock 'n' roll with our sound," asserts Burgess, who recently achieved the considerable feat of completing a sold-out U.S. tour performing double-duty in both Satan's Satyrs and Electric Wizard.
He goes on to say, "I've watched Tony Iommi rip into the opening chords of ‘War Pigs’ from 30 feet away. I've had Bobby Liebling look me straight in the eyes as he sang ‘All Your Sins’. I've had my hair stand on end and felt strange frissons from the music which means so much to me. My ultimate desire is to reach people in the same way with our music. That's what I strive for."
The new album's track listing is:
1. Full Moon and Empty Veins
2. Two Hands
3. (Won't You Be My) Gravedancer
4. Spooky Nuisance
5. Germanium Bomb
6. Creepy Teens
7. Crimes and Blood
8. You-Know-Who
9. 'Round the Bend More...
Hiems Re-Issuing "Cold Void Journey"
It's been an age since we heard anything from Hiems, with the "Worship Or Die" album released back in 2009 (reviewed here - and seriously, all the metal bands who "break up" for two years, take note that a project that's still active spent longer between releases than you have and didn't feel the need to whine about it on Facebook).
Moribund Records is now proud to present the remastered reissue of Hiems' cult-classic debut album, "Cold Void Journey," set for international release on November 20, 2015.
Originally released in 2005, when the black metal landscape was quite a bit different to how it is now, "Cold Void Journey" introduced Hiems to the international scene with a vengeance. The work of just one man, the selfsame Hiems creating something quite comparable to its title: harsh, cryogenic, and unrelenting in its spiraling violence; no light is let in, and none escapes.
Now titularly expanded to "Cold Void Journey (The Forsaken Crimes)," the album has been fully remixed and remastered from the original master tapes for more dynamic interaction and an even more explosive experience. As a bonus, the first pressing of the album will include a whole disc's worth of rarities, including demos from the late '90s pre-Hiems band SN. The full track listing is: More...
Inverted Serenity Streaming "Breath Of Life"
Producing technical groovy death metal rooted in musical duality and lyricism, Winnipeg's Inverted Serenity is now streaming new track "Breath of Life" below, taken off upcoming album "Integral."
The new album will drop on October 9, 2015 and Inverted Serenity had this to say about the "Breath Of Life" single:
"This track is the longest on the record and is definitely one of the most impressive songs structurally. Beginning with a doom inspired riff that picks itself up into an uplifting proggy type groove which then unexpectedly turns itself into an atmospheric black metal passage is just one of the many interesting changes the song paints itself into.
"This is also the first track that we as a band chose to include clean group vocals with pan out really smoothly with the dissonant acoustic guitar riff written by Tomas a few years prior. The theme discussed in the lyrics is based upon balancing of mind as it increasingly unfolds itself unto the realization that it is the observer of all that is. Through the process knowing the rhythmic balanced interchange of natures polarity (inhalation/exhalation), the endless unfolding is fully expressed." More...

Sure, it’s only one set up, but it’s the whole room and the viewer is standing in the middle of the pit! No one in metal has really exploited this new tech as of yet. Definitely a cool perspective."
