ProgPower USA XVI, Part 3: Falconer's Last Show
7:30am – September 11, 2015.
In any other place, at any other time of the year, 7:30am feels like noon. After last night’s Dragonland experience, it felt way too early. As a perpetual early riser, this one felt like grim death. I’m getting to old for this – restricted to two maybe three occasions a year that I would even consider staying out until 4:30-5:00am. I needed coffee….buckets of it. Where was Lance King and his trusty “Awakenings” blend when I needed it! Riiiiight, the main merch area doesn’t open until noon today.
Well, I couldn’t fall back asleep now…I might wake up at 3pm and I had an 11am sponsor meeting with Glenn Harveston. I cannot miss that one. Just a day earlier when arriving in Atlanta, I learned that since the issues with Hibria forced my sponsored band off the roster, I would now be proudly co-sponsoring Jeff Scott Soto. Nothing wrong with that! Here is a legend that now gets an extended set to celebrate his 30th anniversary – so I was expecting to hear solo material, Yngwie Malmsteen material and Talisman material at least! Truly exciting stuff….when one door closes, another opens wider! More...

Heavy Metal Video Games: The Return Of Music Games
With the king of music games about to make a triumphant return in less than two weeks, it seemed like a good time to take another look at the limited offerings available where video games collide with heavy metal.
For those who missed our previous three articles discussing various games with heavy metal soundtracks, be sure to go back and check 'em out (and let us know if you end up playing or re-playing any of these gems!):
Part 1: the amazing Brutal Legend, Saints Row III, Killing Floor 2, Pain Killer, and Guilty Gear X2 Reload
Part 2: Splatterhouse, Twisted Metal 2, The Witcher's bonus music disc, and Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost And The Damned.
Part 3 (the retro edition!): Rock And Roll Racing, Beavis And Butthead, F-Zero X, Earthbound, and Heavy Metal Geomatrix
Rock Band
There was this utterly glorious time where console gaming was flush with a stable lineup of music games and every weekend involved a bottle of something hard and your best friends making drunken fools of themselves in your living room till 2 AM. Typically your neighbors would not be amused, but fuck them because they don't like metal anyway.
Unfortunately that time died when Activision decided to flood the market with an absurd number of Guitar Hero entries and the era of the music game came to a sudden, crashing halt.
Obviously the Rock Band titles had plenty of rock tunes, but a handful of legitimate metal was also involved in the various incarnations and weekly DLC updates, adding in the likes of Emperor, Machine Head, and a whole lot more. Where things really took off was in the Rock Band Network, which let bands make their own tracks, seeing tons of underground groups add in their own music.
It was a truly sad day when Harmonix announced there would be no more DLC coming to Rock Band back in 2013, but an unexpected light at the end of the tunnel appeared just a few months ago. Back in March, Harmonix made a whole lot of fans happy by officially announcing Rock Band 4, which seemed like nothing more than a pipe dream up till that point.
Due out October 6, Rock Band 4's launch lineup of metal will include Dream Theater, Ozzy Osbourne, Scorpions, Baby Metal, System Of A Down, and more, with loads of metallic downloadable songs no doubt prepped and ready to drop each week.
Needless to say I'm greatly looking forward to it, except that unfortunately Guitar Hero is also returning. Maybe Activision can keep it in its pants this time around and not kill music gaming again by releasing six or so games a year.
Khaotika Rises From The Ashes With New Album
On April 6, 2015, Atlanta's Khaotika was involved in a horrible accident while on tour with Huntsville's Wormreich. The accident claimed the life of drummer Nick Crisostomo (a/k/a Dyret) as well as Wormreich guitarist/keyboardist Ian A. McKinney and live bassist Paul Truesdell. It also left Khaotika vocalist Lariyah with life threatening injuries.
Through patience and determination, Lariyah not only recovered...but flourished. Having nearly fully recovered, Khaotika entered the studio earlier this month to record the debut full length album "The Flame Unleashed." The album is set for release on November 11th, with pre-orders available on October 2nd.
The album will come as a digipak with a 20-page-booklet with lyrics, photographs and artwork insert. For the first 100 pre-orders, there will be an option for an additional folded poster insert with unpublished photos and personal notes from each member.
The band will premiere a new music video for the brand new track "Heretik Within" on October 1st, right here on Metal Underground.com.
"The Flame Unleashed" was mixed in S. Prian Studio in Atlanta by Scott Prian with engineer Paul Golden and mastered by Tore Sjerna (Watain, Mayhem, Destroyer 666). More...
Fragore Working On New Album
Italian thrash/death Metal act Fragore have been hard at work in the studio this past summer, laying down tracks for the band’s upcoming album.
The fourth album, yet untitled, will take Fragore on a new level after the previous releases "The Dark Side of Ambition" (2009), "The Keeper" (2011) and “The Reckoning” (2014) featuring producer Ettore Rigotti (Disarmonia Mundi, Destrage, Slowmotion Apocalypse), who is once again helming the new effort.
Rigotti is currently putting the final touches on the release and will mix and master the album at Metal House Studio in Italy.
More news will be announced soon, stay tuned! More...
Vehemence Streaming "It's All My Fault"
As Phoenix death metal horde Vehemence makes a full-time return to the scene with the "Forward Without Motion" LP this year, a new single from the scorching album has been issued online. Get a taste of "It's All My Fault" below.
Following the 2004 Metal Blade Records release of the "Helping The World To See" album, Vehemence went on hiatus, leaving a diehard legion of followers in musical purgatory. That nearly twelve-year-long streak will end on October 23, as Battleground Records issues the band's most conquering material to date on "Forward Without Motion." You can also see the band live on these release show dates:

Silent Line Posts "Shattered Shores" Track
Bonnyville, AB death-infused melodic metal band Silent Line is now streaming first single "Shattered Shores I: Timeless Night," taken off the upcoming concept album "Shattered Shores."
Listen in below, courtesy of a stream hosted by MetalNationRadio.ca. Vocalist/guitarist Michael Burton comments:
"Timeless Night is the first part of the title track off this album and describes the coming of the storm that is supposed to wash away the ash of the past and renew the land. It shares a similar chorus with Shattered Shores II: A New Beginning, as well as the verse riff - although the songs are in different tuning.
"It also shares some lyrics with Erosion to tie the depiction of ashes and flames to the storm. It primarily describes hopelessness and sorrow, trying to move on, but being stuck in depression. Musically it is quite diverse ranging from classic In Flames-style dual lead guitars to a four guitar harmonized clean bridge and huge ringing chords."
The album's full track listing is as follows:
1. Frost of The Night (5:46)
2. Erosion (3:52)

Sunpocrisy Announces "Eyegasm, Hallelujah!"
Based on the title and album artwork I honestly can't even tell if this press release is a joke or not, but we'll go with "not" for the moment and just roll with it...
Sunpocrisy will release new record "Eyegasm, Hallelujah!" this coming November 1, 2015 on CD and digital formats. The album, described as a "progressive post-mental eargasm," will also be available soon in a vinyl gatefold 2XLP edition.
The project was born in 2007 as a death/progressive band and recorded the first EP called “Atman.” In 2010 the artistic ambitions of the band started to develop in an unpredictable way: songwriting became more complex, and the sheer death metal of the beginnings gave way to an expanded line up with three guitars and keyboard/electronics.
Sunpocrisy becomes a prog / post-metal beast with a wider scope and a huge palette. The next (il)logical step was "Samaroid Dioramas," which is available for streaming in full right here. Now following that release comes "Eyegasm, Hallelujah!" Check out the cover artwork here: More...

Darkest Era Premieres New Music Video
Darkest Era has a wicked cool new animated video for "Songs Of Gods and Men," taken off the 2014 album "Severance" (available through Cruz Del Sur Music) and we're proud to be bringing you the exclusive premiere - check it out below! The clip was created by French/Irish Artist Anaïs Chareyre who describes it by saying:
"The concept of this animation is about choices we make in life. This witch/woman is a representation of the Change, a step to something unknown, good or bad. She is the Fool tarot card, a promise for something definitely different... Sometimes in life we do need a radical change, but we are scared to walk to her. I went to her twice in my life, and twice I was terrified. But so far she is still smiling at me, even though she could change her face anytime, and I am aware of it. This is my first animation and I am really glad I could have such an awesome track as background, I hope you enjoy it!"
If you like what you see in the video, you can find more of Anaïs’ stunning artwork at Facebook or over through DeviantArt.com here.
Furthermore Cruz Del Sur Music and Darkest Era are eager to announce a co-release of the forthcoming “An Dagda Awakens / Elohim” 7’’ due out on November 20, 2015. The cover artwork and an audio teaser will be revealed soon. More...

Culture Killer Shows The "Path Of Reflection"
Florida's Culture Killer is streaming the new track "Path of Reflection." The song appears on the debut release "Throes Of Mankind," which is set for release on November 27th worldwide via Metal Blade Records. Pre-orders are available at this location.
"Throes of Mankind" was engineered by Austin Coupe and Kenny Gil at Pig Pen Recordings, mixed by Kenny Gil, and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music. Culture Killer described the tracking process as "the smoothest, most fun process we have ever experienced." Guitarist/vocalist Hunter Young added that "Kenny and Austin are old friends of ours, so honestly it was just an all around amazing experience."
The Culture Killer lineup is rounded out by vocalist Ian Campbell, guitarist Trevor Kopp, bassist Collin Townsend, and drummer Dylan Blow. The band delivers pummeling metallic hardcore with violent, malevolent fervor. Musically, and lyrically, the band can simply be described as disgruntled and malevolent. The band would argue this is warrented given the current state of the world. Hunter Young explains: "The album hits on specific topics that the world is currently, and has been battling. Such as: racism, human trafficking, pedophilia in the pulpit, addiction, and the digital age ruining real human communication."
Culture Killer is the platform the members use to discuss topics they deem to be important. Not merely important, but topics they feel should be under discussion. They feel ultimately that "using the band to do anything other than talk about the evils and tragedies in the world would be doing an injustice to the listener and to ourselves."

Khymera Announces New Release "The Grand Design"
Frontiers Music Srl announced the impending release of the fourth album of the Khymera project entitled "The Grand Design," which drops on December 4th in Europe and North America.
While the Khymera started out as an alliance between Italian producer/musician, Daniele Liverani and then Kansas singer Steve Walsh, it actually developed into a regular musical project when Pink Cream 69/Unisonic (official) bassist and producer Dennis Ward came into the picture. While known as a bass player, Dennis always sings background vocals with his bands, so it was quite interesting for many fans to hear his voice taking the lead on the Khymera albums "A New Promise" and "The Greatest Wonder."

“Everything changed this time!” says Dennis Ward. “First of all there were no songs written by outside writers, just the people involved in the recordings and Paul.
