Pit Stories: Dodging Moose
Tuesday means it's time for more Pit Stories from metal bands, but this week we're going to shift focus and do something a little different.
We're actually not headed into the pit itself this week, but rather rewinding to the part beforehand where the band has to get there first.
Here's the tale Evertrapped shared about dodging dangerous moose on the way to and from a live show:
A few years ago, we had to play a gig out in Halifax which is about 12 hours by car from where we live. We literally left the Saturday morning at around 8am, played there the Sunday afternoon in a festival, left there around 6pm and got back home around 6am on Monday. To our guitarists’ credit, he did the whole drive there and back without switching drivers.
Anyway, when you`re crossing through New Brunswick, it’s moose country. Well, we weren’t really fully aware of the full size of an adult moose until we noticed signs that actually show you the comparison between a full grown moose and your car. It's huge! So every time we passed a moose crossing sign, Vince would slow down to about 80km/h, let the guy behind us pass and then follow him. Especially if it was a truck. Kid of a dick move to the guy in front of us, but further up the highway at one point we noticed two sets of hazards flashing in the distance.
And just as we got close we almost ran over the moose that had actually been hit by the truck up ahead with the flashing hazards. Hitting the carcass alone would’ve killed us all on impact. After that, you’ve never seen a bunch of guys more awake and alert driving down the highway at 4 AM before, I guarantee you that.
Every day bands risk their lives across highways to bring you some head banging metal, and so do fans trying to reach bigger venues for better shows - so let's hear your stories below of the worst driving experiences YOU'VE had trying to get a show!

Long Beach Vagrant Posts New Lyric Video
Long Beach Vagrant just dropped a lyric video for the track "Within," taken off the two-track "Death Be Thy Name" single available now via iTunes.

Long Beach Vagrant’s music from the 90’s would be described as horror metal, taking influences from the group's favorite horror slasher movies.
With a revamped lineup, Long Beach Vagrant is currently in the studio recording a new album also called “Death Be Thy Name” with a current line up including Randy Blount (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Robert Gresham (bass guitar), and John Aragonez (drums), leaving Mike Pain as the only original member. Crown The Empire Announces Deluxe Album Release
Crown The Empire has announced "The Resistance: Deluxe Edition" (produced by Dan Korneff) will be released October 30, 2015 via Rise Records. This edition of the album will have 4 new tracks and brand new packaging.
Andy Leo from Crown The Empire comments: “For us, the new songs on the deluxe edition of The Resistance are about closure. So much has changed over the last few years, and up until this point, I think we’ve been searching for who we were as artists. Cross Our Bones, Prisoners of War and Machines (re-invented) are just the surface level of what we feel we’ve uncovered creatively as songwriters and as individuals. As we bring The Resistance to an end, we hope these songs excite you for what is to come”
David Escamilla adds: “Prisoners of War is the most honest we’ve ever been lyrically. We felt completely open and able to talk about how we felt as a band, and for one last time, we were able to bring those real emotions into the world of The Resistance. Every journey must come to an end, and with this one drawing to an end, we wanted to thank all of you for being a part of it, and invite you along as we head towards a new horizon for Crown The Empire.” More...

Napalm Death Releases New Music Video
Napalm Death continues to promote 15th studio album release "Apex Predator - Easy Meat" and today the group debuts a new video clip for "How The Years Condemn."
Check out the enthralling effort, composed by live footage shot in North America by
Doug Brown and enhanced by animation courtesy of Costin Chioreanu / Twilight Media, in the player below. Napalm Death comments:
"Subject-wise I think this is one of the more open-ended of the tracks that we have in the sense that everybody has their own ideas toward living a vibrant and fulfilling life. To me, Costin expertly captured some elements that can be detrimental to that and keep us in a bubble: becoming progressively stupefied by television / mass media... leaving unnecessary burdens upon another person sharing life with us... only seeing an altered perspective through the bottom of a bottle or suchlike.
"Don't misunderstand, this is not an anti-alcohol / intoxicant song - as some might conclude - but more to understand that any form of stimulant that controls us rather us controlling it (from TV to drugs and many things in between) really can impair and reduce the quality of life that is possible for our finite time on earth." "To all our supporters and friends over the years. Today marks the end of Laika for the foreseeable future. This was an incredibly difficult decision to be made but necessary, things became so evident as the months progressed.
"There is no grudges and no hate internally. We at the Laika camp just felt that this needed to happen. We may revisit this band in the future but for now Laika is no more.
"We have had an incredible run and some of the best memories ever in this band. We thank everyone for their tremendous support over the years and most importantly all past Laika members for their contributions to the experiences we shared. India's Bevar Sea will release new album "Invoke the Bizarre" worldwide on October 31, 2015. Sliptrick Records is proud to announce that Kaira is now part of the family and ready to release the new album "Roots of Veles." Stay tuned for more info. More...
Horisont Shares Some "Bad News"
Big of moustache and tight of trouser, Horisont drinks from the bottomless wellspring of inspiration that's been bubbling up through the layers of time since the birth of the blues - or Blue Oyster Cult at the very least.
Theirs is a sound that harks back to the dawn of the 70s, when a new clutch of heads decided it was time to harsh the 60s hippies' mellow and paint it black; those years when the twin spirit of hard rock and prog rose to redefine sound. Horisont will drop the "Odyssey" album on September 18.
Today the band releases a video for the song "Bad News," which can be seen below, while the full album's track listing is as follows:
1. Odyssey
2. Break The Limit
3. Blind Leder Blind
4. Bad News
5. Light My Way
6. The Night Stalker
7. Flying

Tony Iommi Discusses Black Sabbath's Final Tour
Doubling down on the notion of the recently announced "The End" tour actually being Black Sabbath's final live trek and not just another marketing gimmick, Tony Iommi discussed why the band is finally hanging up its hat after so many years in a new interview with Birmingam Mail. Excerpts from the interview follow:
“I can’t actually do this anymore,” admits the guitar hero. “My body won’t take it much more.”
Iommi, who battled lymphoma, has tests in two weeks’ time to ensure the cancer has not returned.
“I don’t want that creeping back again,” he says. “And all the travelling involved in Sabbath tours increasingly takes its toll. That’s why we’re going out on one last tour, to say our farewells. And then it very definitely is the end. We won’t be doing it again.”
Gigs have been confirmed across the US, Australia and New Zealand, sparking dismay that no UK shows were announced. That, says Iommi, is premature.
“There will be UK dates,” he pledges. “And, of course, we’ll be playing Birmingham. This is where it all began for us; this is where family and friends live; this is where our longest-standing fans are. It would be unimaginable for the Sabbath farewell tour not to include Birmingham. But you’ll have to bear with us. The logistics are still being worked out. Even we don’t know all the dates yet.”More...

Shining Announces Fall Tour Dates
Shining has released the full schedule regarding European shows in autumn 2015. The Swedes will be eschewing the usual practice of dragging bands on lengthy tours through several countries in favour of shorter runs on a country-by-country basis.
Shining will visit a total of nine countries in support of ninth full-length album "IX - Everyone, Everything, Everywhere, Ends." A special double gatefold edition of the album in black and white marble vinyl strictly limited to 300 copies will be available for sale exclusively on the tour.
Frontman and founder Niklas Kvarforth explains the reason behind his band's decision not to spend long periods of time on the road:
"Basically we want to be able to give our audience the best show possible each time we are on stage. Being stuck on a cramped, uncomfortable nightliner with people you don't even know and no privacy in which to be able to rest and relax for weeks on the road, is not conducive to any of us and particularly myself to be able to always deliver a top performance. Therefore we will definitely not do this. We have furthermore decided that we do not want to be shunted into the usual venues that every tour seems to hit. We rather play better venues with better facilities - not only for ourselves, but also for the audience, wherever possible." More...
Saturnian Mist Releasing Split With IC Rex
Saturnal Records proudly presents Saturnian Mist an IC Rex teaming up for "Liber Saturni / Apochryphon Of Saturnian Rex," to be released October 16, 2015 worldwide. The label comments:
"Two Finnish occult black metal juggernauts, Saturnian Mist and IC Rex, have joined forces for a collaboration split in the form of esoteric and aural research of the archetype of Saturn (Satan). An idea for this split derives from the time before IC Rex officially called it quits in 2011. The split contains four songs from both acts where fierce black metal chaotes Saturnian Mist meets ethereal and majestic IC Rex in a perfect example of the diversity of Finnish black metal.
"IC Rex not only develops the line of ritual magic studies which were put to the core of the band’s existence since the first demo and which resulted in three magnificent full-length albums, but basically concludes them, stepping to the next level where Artifex IC left it at the Vedenjakaja (Aquarius) album, proving IC Rex to be - yet again - much more than only music.
"Saturnian Mist offers their unique blend of black metal chaos magick they have developed during the years that is culminating in their latest Chaos Magick album from last spring, but now presented along with the strong sense of their roots found from the soundscapes of melodic Finnish black metal sound."
The split comes with a 12-page booklet with footnotes of the ritualistic and esoteric side of the themes taking place on the release. The track listing is as follows: More...
